Our free form, landscaped pools provide our guests with great views of the volcano and a multitude of options. With temperatures ranging from 83 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and environments that vary from raging waterfalls to tranquil forest experiences, our guests can find the perfect pool for their mood and the current weather conditions.

Rancho Club Rio is the restaurant, bar and function space for Club Rio Adventure Center so that you can grab lunch, a snack or a beverage before, during, or after your visit or activity.

Heliconias Bar
Located on the fourth floor of the reception between Las Ventanas and Tres Cascadas, this bar is perfect for a relaxing drink before or after dinner or for an afternoon cocktail.

La Laguna Bar
This is our ever-popular swim up bar that is located in the center of our largest lagoon pool. This central pool is surrounded by lush landscaping and has infinity edge waterfalls fronting the volcano and multiple waterfalls.

The Ranchito Bar
The setting is beautiful and the views over the pools and out to the volcano are incredible. Ask about having a Romantic Dinner there for a truly special experience.

Los Perdidos and Los Palos Bars
Located at the nexus of the trails within Perdido Springs (Lost Springs), Los Perdidos is a rustic palm thatch jungle bar that is surrounded by hot spring waterfalls on three sides and rainforest on the other.

Los Palos is a larger bar with a Volcano View and table seating overlooking the aquamarine waters of Piscina Celeste and the Monkey Slide.

Family Activities
Game Room, Putt-Putt, Waterslide and Lagoon Pools
Our Mission is to provide you with an incredible family vacation experience in Costa Rica that you will remember forever!

In addition to the eight adventure activities offered daily down at our Club Rio Adventure Center and exploring our Lagoon Pools at the resort level, we also have a Game Room and Billiards/Darts Lounge in our reception building, a poolside Putt-Putt Course and our famous Monkey Slide at Perdidos Springs.

These are all free of charge and are great ways to spend quality family time or to entertain your children while you relax in the hot springs or at The Sanctuary Spa. The game room is an evening favorite for everyone, and you will also find it fun on rainy afternoons.

The kids will want to spend all their spare time there meeting new friends and enjoying the games. For you parents, the Ginger Sushi Bar is located between the Game Room and the Billiards Lounge and is a perfect place to enjoy the music, a drink and adult-time while still being close to your children.

Monkey Slide
No stay at The Springs Resort & Spa is complete without a visit to the pristine forest pools at Perdido Springs and a wild ride down our famous Monkey Slide. Nestled beneath giant tree ferns and towering rainforest trees this is a thrilling and beautiful experience.

Tropical Putt-Putt
This nine-hole course is fun for the whole family, but we are confident that it will challenge even the most expert golfer with its rough, fringe and undulating greens as well as the tropically inspired obstacles.

Each hole has a way to score a hole-in-one so put your skill to the test. Located between the Lagunas Pools and Perdidos Springs, this is an ideal activity to enjoy between your pool and hot spring visits. It is open in the evenings as well for a pre-dinner or post dinner round!!!

Game Room & Billiards Lounge
This is one of the most popular family experiences featured at the resort. Your kids will look forward to visiting the Game Room every night and you often find them rushing through dinner to get there.

It is not just the games but the social experience of meeting other kids and showing off their skill at the games. We offer Ping Pong, Air Hockey, Foosball, Playstation, Xbox, Wii, Board Games, Dolls and, of course, our Famous Fresh Popcorn!

Our Billiards Lounge which is on the other side of Ginger Sushi Restaurant from the Game Room offers Billiards, Darts, Poker Table, Checkers and Chess. This is a great area for teenagers and adults to meet and socialize.

WILDLIFE SANCTUARY TOUR

For over 15 years our company has been supporting the Costa Rican Environmental Ministry’s mission to care for rescued wildlife either injured or confiscated from people holding them illegally.

We receive and care for the animals ONLY when the government’s representatives consider that animal to be unable to survive on its own in the wild. It is our mission to do everything possible to provide the closest environment to their natural habitats in order to promote their instinctual behaviors.

We are one of a only a handful of entities licensed to do this in the country and we consider it our duty to not only educate our visitors about these magnificent creatures but to explain the challenges they face as their natural habitats are either invaded or destroyed.

Our trained guides and extensive educational signage will help you understand the balance between the human and natural world in Costa Rica.

EIGHT INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE TOURS IN ONE PLACE

Club Rio Outdoor Center is located directly below the resort along our beautifully forested, mile long stretch of Arenal River frontage. With its eight different soft adventure activities, Club Rio is perfect for all ages and is a “Must See” area of the resort.

The fact that all of these activities are offered in one location and on-site is a fantastic amenity for our guests. Some of these tours and activities include River Tubing, Inflatable River Kayaking, Horseback Riding, Rock Climbing and Rappelling, Nature Tours, Hot Springs, and River Fishing.

Before and after the scheduled tours, we encourage our guests to walk the hiking trails leading to secluded, natural hot springs just feet away from the river’s edge.

Club Rio also features Arenal’s finest animal sanctuary. In conjunction with the MINAE (Ministry of Environment and Energy) we operate a preserve for Costa Rican wildlife that have been confiscated from poachers or donated by other private reserves, rescue centers or individuals.

Our Wildlife Sanctuary Tour gives our guests the opportunity to experience a large array of Costa Rican wildlife living in beautiful, natural habitats all in one easily accessible location.

EIGHT ADVENTURES, RIGHT ON-SITE, AND A “MUST SEE” AMENITY OF THE RESORT!
Located below the main resort on our private stretch of the Arenal River, Club Rio Outdoor Center offers River Tubing, River Kayaking, Horseback Riding, Climbing and Rappelling Wall, Animal Sanctuary, Guided Nature Hikes, Fishing and Hot Springs.

We highly recommend that you take our shuttle bus and come see the beauty of this place. You don’t have to book a tour to enjoy Club Rio because there is a lot to see and experience by just walking around and lounging in the Hot Springs, and then you can see the various tours in action.

Please bring your bathing suit and horseback riding clothes when you come down because we are sure that you will want to book some of the tours while you are there. No visit to The Springs Resort & Spa is complete without the Club Rio Experience!

RIVER TUBING

Prepare yourself for a thrilling ride down Class I and II rapids on the incredibly scenic Arenal River, where you will encounter shoulder high rapids and tranquil blue pools. You will finish the mile ride on a small beach surrounded by hot springs, waterfalls, nature trails and our riverside restaurant and bar.

Our special tubes are designed to run small rivers and are equipped with handles and protective bottoms. Our splashing-fun tubing course is about 800 meters long, but you can choose to run just the lower, easier section (Bunny Run) which is about 180 meters and remain along our open viewing area to make you feel more comfortable.

RIVER KAYAKING

Master the Class I and II rapids on the beautiful Arenal River as it winds through moss-covered canyons, tranquil blue pools and rushing rapids. As you float and paddle you will enjoy the spectacularly serene views of this rainforest paradise.

Our certified guides will instruct you on the basics and you can practice a bit in one of the calm pools. You will finish the ride on a small beach surrounded by hot springs, waterfalls, nature trails and our riverside restaurant and bar. We provide life jackets and helmets

HORSEBACK RIDING

A beautiful and diverse experience with superbly trained horses, this ride combines scenic forest trails, a crossing through the Arenal River and a gallop in the mountain meadows fronting the magnificent Arenal Volcano.

This tour is for beginners and experienced riders so both can enjoy it to the level of their abilities. The ride will begin at our stables and corral where you will meet your experienced and personable guides who will show you the basics of Western style riding.

If you have a group of riders with different ability levels that is no problem as the experienced riders have a section of the tour where they can gallop while the less experienced can rest. You will often find a newborn colt tagging along for the ride and getting to know our wonderful horses is all part of the package.

ROCK WALL CLIMBING & RAPELLING

Our 50-foot high (15 m) rock climbing and rappelling wall offers unique challenges for beginner through expert level climbers. The Wall offers 4 climbing routes on the front, an interior chimney climb and a double rappel to one side.

The interior has a staircase for those who choose to just rappel. Rappelling here is ideal practice for the famous, off-site, Pure Trek Canyon Waterfall Rappel, that features a 165-foot high rock face.

The Wall is close to our Rancho Club Rio Restaurant and Bar and you can watch the climbers from lounge chairs in the shade of the trees with a drink in your hand. We provide professional climbing shoes for the tour and no prior experience is required.

WILDCAT FEEDING

This unique, behind the scenes, tour is something you will never forget. The agility, speed and ferocity of tropical wild felines is well documented on TV but to see, hear and feel it in real life is a completely new experience.

Our licensed guides and animal care experts feed the animals in unique ways, and they explain how we inspire natural behaviors in our animals through our enrichment programs.

In addition to the pumas, ocelots, and margay felines you will find toucans, sloths, monkeys, coatimundis, Kinkajous, paca agoutis, coyotes, crocodiles, caimans, turtles, parrots, wild turkeys, owls and more!!!

BIRD WATCHING

The Springs Resort is blessed to be embedded in a combination of primary and secondary, regenerating rainforest that holds a high concentration of reforested fruit and seed trees planted 16 years ago by the current owner in the pasture lands of the previous owner.

This combination, along with our kilometer of Arenal River frontage, has created some of the best on-site birdwatching in the country where you will find migratory, aquatic, and resident species.

Just walking alone around the resort, you will commonly encounter over 25 different species per day, but with one of our expert guides you will find many more. The Birdwatching tour begins at 6 am at the hotel lobby and continues for about 2 hours, passing through various environments.

We estimate 40 different bird species can be sighted per day out of the more than 900 species of birds found in Costa Rica.

You will definitely see some of Costa Rica ́s most spectacular and colorful birds such as the White Hawk, Black-mandible Toucan, Crested guan, Blue-grey Tanager, Montezuma Oropendola, Rufous Motmot, and various species of hummingbirds.

Night Walk
The rainforest is beautiful but sleepy during the day, but as the sun sets this dynamic ecosystem literally explodes with life and energy.

You can palpably feel the vitality and exuberance of the creatures surrounding you, but it takes instruction and practice to identify and locate the various creatures creating this orchestral performance.

Local Tours
Too Many Tours, Too Little Time!
We always recommend you spend your first full day at the resort down at our Club Rio Adventure Center which offers eight soft adventure experiences without leaving the property.

Traveling to the Arenal area can leave you tired, so this way you don’t have to leave the property the next day and spend time in a bus for an off-site tour. You will also find that you might want to repeat some of the popular Club Rio tours and this allows for you to plan them into your future days.

Also, many of our guests like to practice Rappelling on our Climbing Wall so that they are more prepared for the very popular, off-site Pure Trek Canyon Waterfall Rappel.

The Arenal area is not just famous for the magnificent views of the Volcano, but it is also known as the “Tour Capital” of the country. This relatively small region offers a tremendously diverse and unique collection of nature based, adventure tours.

Whether it’s ultimate adrenaline you seek or communing quietly with nature there are many tours that offer both of those experiences or something in between. We emphasize that you should plan these off-site tours on your second and third day at the property.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens
When you think about Costa Rica, you probably imagine lush tropical Rain Forests, flowing white rivers, spectacular waterfalls, birds, butterflies and flowers. At La Paz Waterfall Gardens, you will see all that and more.

Pure Trek Waterfall Canyoning
Your trip begins with a 30-minute four-by-four drive into the tropical rainforest outside the town of La Fortuna in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano. We trek through the forest on magical trails that lead to some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Costa Rica, a place very few people get to experience.

Arenal Extreme ATV Adventure
If you’re up for the challenge, this tour will make you experience the most amazing outdoor adventure that you have ever had.

While you’re driving your own four-by-four ATV between farms, muddy areas, little creeks and trails in the middle of the forest, you’ll have a lot of fun and you’ll feel the adrenaline to the top. So prepare to get wet and dirty!

Arenal River ATV Tour
If you are ready, this tour will make you experience the most fun outdoor adventure that you ever had, while you are driving your own 4×4 ATV between farms, muddy areas, little creeks and trails in the middle of the forest, you will have a lot of fun and you will feel the adrenaline to the top, prepare to get wet and dirty! We recommend this tour for those traveling with children.

Safari Float by Raft

Enjoy the sights and the sounds of the rainforest and experience its peacefulness as we quietly paddle the Peñas Blancas river. Monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles and numerous tropical birds await us!

Our professional, bilingual guide will share with you educational and interesting explanations of the plants and animals we encounter on the float. You will truly appreciate the wonders of Peñas Blancas River and the surrounding rainforest as we travel without a motor.

This way, you’ll enjoy the journey while quietly rowing and taking photos. Make sure to bring your camera and binoculars on this tour! This is a half-day tour specially designed for people with a limited amount of time. Adventure includes: comfortable transportation, bilingual naturalist guide, first class equipment and Costa Rican style snacks

Sky Adventures Zip Line Tour

This adrenaline filled adventure tour allows you to glide along cables as high as 524 feet (50 stories) at speeds reaching 40 miles-per-hour with continuous runs of up to 2,500 feet (one-half mile). On the longest cable, it takes 50 seconds to complete the run.

La Fortuna Waterfall

Located just 6 km outside the town of La Fortuna, this stunning waterfall provides visitors with a wonderful place to swim and relax. Situated at the base of the dormant Chato volcano amidst a thriving rain forest, the location for this waterfall couldn’t get any better.
