The Warehouse Hotel was built in 1895 along the Singapore River as part of the Straits of Malacca trade route. At that time, the area was a hotbed of secret societies, underground activity, and liquor distilleries.

Today, while much of that history has disappeared, The Warehouse Hotel has been meticulously restored as a modern 37-room boutique hotel, focusing on heritage and local culture.

Open as of January 2017, it delivers thoughtful hospitality with historically-detailed rooms, classic local dishes and craft cocktails and curated partnerships in the vibrant neighbourhood of Robertson Quay.

The Warehouse Hotel is the inaugural hotel of renowned Singaporean hospitality firm The Lo & Behold Group and is part of the prestigious Design Hotels™ portfolio.

Heritage & History
In the 1890s, a time when trade along the Straits was thriving, a businessman named Lim Ho Puah inherited a shipping company called Wee Bin & Co.

En route to becoming one of the most successful businessmen in Southeast Asia, he built one particularly beautiful building – with a peaked roof and shuttered windows, right along the river banks. It was what we colloquially known as a “godown”, or warehouse.

Formerly known as “Chiu Long Lo” in Hokkien, or “Spirits Shed Street.” One could find hundreds of variations of homemade arrack, tuak and toddy, being distilled in corners and alleyways, on this very road.

It was, at the time, the operating neighbourhood of Chinese and Fujianese secret societies. Gambling, prostitution and opium were commonplace. The Havelock Road neighbourhood was the verifiable red light district of its time, and The Warehouse sat in the very heart of it

Neighbourhood
The Warehouse Hotel sits on the banks of the Singapore River in Robertson Quay, a neighbourhood with a rich and notorious past. Our building has been beautifully restored as a modern hotel and is a space we hope will serve as a portal to local culture.

While there are endless options for eating, sightseeing and things to do throughout our city, we have put together this guide with our personal recommendations for your time in Singapore.

Go ahead and spend a day out exploring our favourite neighbourhoods. Eat at a local market in one of Singapore’s oldest estates, enjoy breathtaking views of the skyline while sipping on locally inspired cocktails or catch the tropical sunset on our city’s best strip of sand.

Should you need any help with reservations, our friendly team is on hand to assist. So go on, our little red dot beckons.

Robertson Quay
Robertson Quay is one of the only neighbourhoods in Singapore with a vibrant blend of residential and commercial offerings. It is walking distance to Clarke Quay and Boat Quay; and equidistant from the Central Business District and the Orchard Road shopping district. Its bustling riverside location makes it a natural food and beverage hub.

The Warehouse Sanctuaries are designed windowless along with warm, ambient light to create an oasis of calm from the bustle of the city. Located on the ground floor of the hotel, each is fitted with a king-sized bed and ensuite bathroom.

Warehouse Loft
The Warehouse Lofts, located on the top floor, have soaring, double-high ceilings with original building beams and historic conservation detailing.

Each loft offer skylights; some rooms feature glass block windows that allow natural light in. They look out on the neighbourhood and surroundings. Each is fitted with a king-sized bed and ensuite bathroom.

Po
The culinary programming throughout The Warehouse Hotel was crafted in partnership with Chef Willin Low, Mod-Sin pioneer and founder of Wild Rocket.

The hotel’s flagship restaurant, Po, is a refined modern Singaporean concept presenting an array of local classics and elevated Singaporean staples. Po seeks to bridge the gap between our nation’s vibrant culinary heritage and our rich collective memories of home cooked specialties.

Lobby Bar
Our Lobby Bar’s craft cocktail programme reflects the three key eras of the property’s past.

Representing its incarnation as an 1895 warehouse, known in Asia as a godown, are rustic infusions that transport you to the heart of the old spice trade such as the Singapore Sazerac – raisin bourbon, pandan bitters, rye, cognac, absinthe.

Referencing Havelock Road’s time as Chiu Long Lo in Hokkien – or ‘Spirits Distillery Street’ are heavier concoctions.

Flirty concoctions like Barbarella – hibiscus gin, elderflower, rhubarb, earl grey tea – are inspired by the venue’s transformation into an iconic disco in the 1980s. These are supported by a curated selection of Asian craft beers, spirits and fine wines.
