Arrive instead of simply checking in. Feel at ease instead of just “being on holiday”, knowing that you are in the best possible hands if you want to make sure your wishes come true. In Thurnher’s Alpenhof, your home in the mountains, all this is a matter of course.

In addition to 38 elegant and inviting rooms and suites, the chalet hotel in Zürs am Arlberg offers supreme comfort as well as service which is tailored to the individual needs of each and every guest. And incidentally, one of the most attractive skiing regions of Europe lies directly before our door.

“What is average makes the world go round, but the unusual is what gives it its value.” Oscar Wilde, from whom this quotation stems, would certainly have liked Thurnher’s Alpenhof. Because from the start the hosts have continued to live according to the credo of Oskar Thurnher and have therefore seen it as their duty to provide the unusual.

Dr. Beatrice Zarges, the owner of this prize-winning hotel, demonstrates a remarkable love of detail – and that applies equally to the interior design of the entire establishment and to the friendly and professional service.

THE HISTORY
It all started in 1964. With the establishment of Thurnher’s Alpenhof, Elfi and Oskar Thurnher had fulfilled their long-cherished dream of a home in the mountains. Today their daughter Dr. Beatrice Zarges manages the destiny of the family-run chalet hotel.

She is assisted by Stephanie Zarges-Vogel, representing the third generation – with the help of little Coco-Felice, who runs gaily along the corridors and regards the hotel, which is considered to be one of the most attractive resorts in the whole of the Alps, as her own personal property.

ROOMS & SUITES
Of the 14 rooms, no two are alike. And each of the 24 suites radiates the individual flair of an inimitable personality. Ultra-modern, in Alpine chalet style or classically elegant.

They all share three harmonious characteristics: contemporary comfort, an inspiring atmosphere and a soothing effect thanks to the light colour scheme. Antiques and modern art create exciting contrasts. In most rooms, broad panorama windows offer dramatic views of the mountains surrounding Zürs.

SUITES
All our suites have separate sleeping and living areas. Some of the bathrooms are fitted with a bathtub with Jacuzzi.

The SPA suite does not entirely replace the facilities of our wellness area, but it offers a whirlpool in light onyx as well as a steam bath and shower cabin together with a flatscreen TV, thereby providing supreme comfort. Romantic souls like to book the suites with an open fireplace, while families prefer to settle for the suites with two bedrooms and bathrooms.

SPA SUITE
The Spa Suite scores with its clear, modern design and very comfortable furnishings. The cosy sofa corner is ideal for reading and relaxing, or you can just enjoy the breathtaking views of the romantic winter wonderland.

A special highlight of the Spa Suite is the luxurious and very spacious bathroom with a whirlpool tub of exclusive onyx and a luxurious multi-sensory shower with a steam bath function. Of course it also has a flatscreen TV and high-speed WLAN.

THURNHER’S RESIDENCES
Just four Suites and one Penthouse Apartment: the newly opened Thurnher’s Residences are attracting attention as the first and only serviced apartments in Zürs. Modern forms are combined with relaxing materials.

They are luxuriously equipped, flooded with light, extremely comfortable and provide an attractive alternative temporary home instead of living in a hotel – especially as the guests in the chalet residence directly beside the Zürser See lift can also call upon the wide-ranging services provided by Thurnher’s Alpenhof at any time.

DINING
You will not need mountaineering skills to dine in the restaurant which critics and testers have confirmed to be one of the top gastronomic addresses in Austria. Thurnher’s Alpenhof lies at a height of 1,717 metres, but it is easily accessible for visitors.

Delicious creations to delight both eye and palate await you in our restaurant. The Piano Bar is immediately next door, where the fire crackles in the hearth while the barman shakes and stirs the cocktails.

From the Alps to the Atlantic Ocean. High quality, fresh, unadulterated. As a native Vorarlberger, our new head chef Gernot Bischofberger preserves the culinary tradition from our region and combines it with many different creations from the upscale French cuisine.

Our guests are offered a good mix of down-to-earth cuisine and classic haute cuisine. It goes without saying that dietary requirements or special culinary requests are taken into account during the preparation of the meals.

And so are the nutritional requirements and preferences of children, for whom we prepare special menus. The highlight of our abundant breakfast buffet is the cold meats counter with a unique selection of Austrian sausage and ham varieties. Theme evenings round out our culinary offerings. Try them and see!

FIREPLACE – LOUNGE – BAR
A Zürs Sprizz is always the right choice – not only as an aperitif before a delicious gourmet menu! The signature drink of Thurnher’s Alpenhof is one of many creations with which our barkeepers create emotions in liquid form.

Time seems to stand still in the Lounge and Piano Bar when the snowflakes are swirling outside and your gaze through the panorama windows sweeps across the white mountain world before the door. Every afternoon between 3.30 and 5 pm we serve traditional refreshments including a small savoury speciality and delicious cakes.

ROOF TERRACE
The Trittkopf, Rüfikopf and Hasenfluh provide the imposing backdrop for relaxing moments on the panoramic Rooftop Terrace of Thurnher’s Alpenhof.

Up here, on the fifth floor of the 5-star superior hotel, our guests can enjoy a midday snack or the warmth of the sun as they relax over afternoon tea with Gugelhupf, can retire to read or end the day on the slopes with a sundowner. Or take a break from their leisure programme and do nothing at all.

THE COCO’S LOUNGE
Thurnher’s Alpenhof conjures up another trend towards Zürs am Arlberg: Coco’s Lounge! Whether as a break between runs or after an active day on the slopes – every day delicacies and hot drinks await you at the blazing fireplace.

The new À-la-Carte offer of our chef Gernot Bischofberger offers classics of the Austrian cuisine as well as sophisticated haute cuisine creations. Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz or Salzburger Nockerl can be ordered both for lunch and dinner.

An Austrian Afternoon Tea is also offered between 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm. Shortbread, Scones and Clotted Cream – who doesn’t know the typical delicacies of British afternoon tea?

At Thurnher’s Alpenhof, we don’t want to make copies, we want to leave our own personal mark on tradition. You will find sweet pastries and Austrian petit four for tea or coffee, but also a fine interpreted “Brotzeit”. Our motto: “Casual, but still with top quality. Our guests should not be tempted to enter a five-star superior hotel!”

WELLNESS & SPA
To switch off for a few hours or even an entire day – to have nothing to do just be and savour the moment: What better place is there to enjoy this than the SPA of Thurnher’s Alpenhof?

Our modern wellness area with its Mediterranean accents offers a indoor pool with counter-current-system, a Finnish sauna and a bio sauna, steam bath, fitness room and rest area. Our wellness programme also includes massages, holistic treatments and fitness units. Stretching, water and ski gymnastics will make you fit for the slopes.

Swimming in our indoor pool, which is heated to 30 °C, is most enjoyable when the snowflakes are swirling down from the sky. The clean lines and elegant mood of the pool is continued in the other areas of the SPA.

The Finnish sauna, bio sauna and steam bath can be used by our guests free of charge at any time. In order to cool down you can simply leap into the plunge pool, which is fed by the hotel’s own spring. Afterwards, the rest area beckons – for as long as you want and as often as you want.

The well-being of our guests is a top priority for us. “Wellness” is more than simply the good feeling of having pampered one’s body and having relaxed for a while. Well-being is based on inner balance, on energies which can flow freely.

Because we at Thurnher’s Alpenhof are convinced by holistic principles, in our SPA we offer massages using aroma oils as well as chakra treatments using products by DORISSIMA. They work on the seven energy centres of the body.

FITNESS & PERSONAL TRAINING
Bernd Österle is your man. Assuming you want to do something to improve your physical condition. Our Mr. Universum Fitness looks after the guests at Thurnher’s Alpenhof personally and in addition to Pilates he also offers training units for body shaping, muscle development and back strengthening.

If you want to improve your endurance, strengthen your body and become more flexible, upon request Bernd Österle will also draw up individual training plans which can easily be fitted into your daily routine.

ZÜRS AM ARLBERG
Zürs am Arlberg is one of the most exclusive winter sports resorts in the Alps. Situated at an altitude of almost 1720 metres, the traditional village offers a magnificent mountain backdrop and the best winter sports conditions.

The first ski course was held here in 1906; and in 1937 Austria’s first drag lift was constructed. Today all ski slopes lead right into the middle of the small village and are only a few minutes’ walk away.

In Zürs you can ski right up to the hotel entrance, and Thurnher’s Alpenhof lies just a few paces from the Hexenboden lift as well as Zürsersee lift. As a result of the altitude you can rely on finding snow here from the end of November until the end of April.

If you prefer to explore on foot, you can walk along a picturesque, idyllic footpath as far as Lech or towards the Flexenpass. The largest ski region in Austria: With the opening of the Flexen lift for the 2016/17 winter season, the ski resorts on the Arlberg – Zürs, Stuben, Rauz, St. Anton – merged. With the Ski Arlberg Skipass you have access to all slopes and lifts in the region with just one card.

THE BEST SKI-IN AND SKI-OUT CONDITIONS IN AUSTRIA
Forget crowded shuttle rides, steep climbs with your equipment in your back or a long journey from the hotel to the ski slopes. Imagine a skiing holiday with the ski lifts and the piste right on your doorstep.

Thurnher’s Alpenhof has the privilege of being in an immaculate location, at an altitude of more than 1,700 metres and surrounded by slopes. Zürs am Arlberg offers excellent ski-in and ski-out conditions.

The ski region Lech Zürs am Arlberg can only be described with superlatives: Over 305 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes, 200 kilometres of high alpine deep-snow runs as well as 88 ultra-modern lifts and cable cars.

No wonder that the readers of Condé Nast Traveller voted the “Cradle of Alpine Skiing” as the best ski area in Europe. With the opening of the new Flexenbahn from December 2016, all ski resorts in the Arlberg are connected to each other and the whole area is now the fifth-largest skiing region in the world.

It stretches from St. Anton in Tyrol via Lech and Zürs to Warth and Schröcken in Voralberg and is therefore unrivalled in Austria. Thurnher’s Alpenhof is not only a hotel in the middle of this stunning ski area, it is also the one of the best ski in ski out resort in Austria you will ever find! Convince yourself of the great winter experiences that you can enjoy in our hotel!

WINTER EXPERIENCE
Curling instead of carving, paragliding instead of free-riding: the Lech Zürs holiday region offers a wide range of alternatives to enchanting slopes and deep snow adventures.

27 varied kilometres of cross-country skiing trails delight pleasure skiing enthusiasts and professional sports enthusiasts alike. An extensive network of winter footpaths awaits winter hikers and snowshoe walkers.

Curling, ice skating and sledging complete the diverse leisure offers. If you prefer to take off and defy the laws of gravity, you can go paragliding and experience a bird’s eye view of the magnificent mountain world.

THURNHER’S SKI GUIDE
Roman Dornauer is his name, and he is a ski ace! He knows the most attractive descents and the best deep-snow tours; he leaves the most elegant tracks in the snow at Arlberg Ski and knows how to explain the fine details of carving with great charm.

As the hotel’s own nationally certified ski and snowboard teacher he is available to our guests free of charge throughout the entire season. There is so much to discover in the extensive “Ski Arlberg” area, which makes our ski guide even more important for our guests.

Roman Dornauer knows which of the lifts have the shortest waiting times, knows the perfect slope for every skiing level and always has the right tip for skiing in the Arlberg. Every day Roman Dornauer organizes guided ski trips – including a stop at the cosiest ski huts in the entire Arlberg area.

He teaches our youngest guests how to ski on the Arlberg with ease, and anyone who wants to optimise their skiing technique is also in good hands with Roman. You can also count on his competent advice when buying ski boots, ski clothing or free-ride equipment.
