THE HISTORY
Villa La Madonna is owned by the sisters Marie and Annica Eklund, who also run the successful design company Bolon.
Villa La Madonna has been in the family’s possession before and now Marie and Annica have taken over the ownership to offer a fantastic experience for all visitors in the beautiful Piemonte area.

THE VINEYARD
In Piemonte you will find many vineyards of the same size as Villa La Madonna. The history behind our vineyard with stables (today’s studio and yoga room) begins already in the 17th century. In time wine-growing was started, the vines covering the grounds around the farm today.
Only a few farms are protected by UNESCO, and Villa La Madonna is one of these in the Piemonte district. And it stands out a little extra because of its underground food cellar from the early 1600s where we now have our wine cellar. This makes us really proud of course.
ROOMS & SUITES
Villa La Madonna has eighteen tastefully decorated rooms, all with a terrace or balcony looking out over the beautiful Piemonte landscape. The care for our guests is mirrored in every detail.
Every piece of furniture and part of the interior design has therefore been chosen with the utmost care. Everywhere around the hotel you’re surrounded by the inspiring everyday life in Piemonte, where the growing of grapes creates a genuine relaxed experience.
The feeling in the rooms is enhanced by the beautiful natural light framing the personal interior. To us it’s about creating a holistic experience in our rooms. To awaken your creativity at the same time as you are resting and give you inspiration through the tangibles and the landscapes surrounding you.
DINING
In the kitchen at Villa La Madonna rests the heart and soul of our hotel. Here we cook food from Piemonte with inspiration from the whole of Italy.
During the summer months you can enjoy outdoor dining on our terrace, overlooking the stunning Bormida Valley. If you want an even more personal experience, we love to set your table among the rows of vines surrounding the hotel (only at lunch).
Here in this genuine atmosphere we can arrange a memorable private evening with focus on the wonderful Italian flavours. This activity is suitable for a group of up to six people.
Our Italian kitchen is based on what the season has to offer. During autumn for example we serve the world-famous white truffle, one of Piemonte’s real culinary treasures.
With the guidance of our fantastic sommelier Josh, your food and wine experience at Villa La Madonna will be something you’ll remember for a long time.
LUNCH AT A VINEYARD
Visit Priarone, a wine producing family for generations who is also responsible for some of our own wines. During a long lunch you get to taste local Piemonte dishes cooked by “la mamma”.
These courses are enjoyed with carefully selected wines followed by a guided tour around the farm. La Guardia is located approx. 30 minutes by car from Villa La Madonna and the visit lasts about four hours.
Enjoy a tasteful “slowfood” lunch with some carefully chosen dishes served with our own Villa La Madonna wine. You sit at a beautifully set table among lovely rows of vines while overlooking the stunning Bormida Valley. Much appreciated and a memory for life!
PICNIC
Right next to Villa La Madonna you’ll find walking and cycling tracks with breathtaking views over the Piemonte landscape. Bring along a picnic with lovely Italian delicacies selected by our chef, and get a nature experience like no other. If you wish, we can arrange a guide for both the trekking and cycling excursions.
THE WINE CELLAR
Our wine cellar was built already in the 1600s and it is here our sommelier Josh presents our impressive collection of exclusive wines such as Gaja Aldo Conterno, Bruno Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno.
Here you will also find new less known jewels like Marco Capra and Marina Coppi – wines appearing quite frequently in our appreciated wine tastings.
At Villa La Madonna we grow the grapes Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon on the beautiful hills around the farm. These grapes have been chosen after detailed analyses of soil and location.
The wine production is based on hundreds of years of traditions and is happening in cooperation with a reputed vineyard in the area. We produce approx. 6 000 bottles per year and the size of our vineyard is about .02 square kilometers.
To enhance your experience even more we arrange visits to local vineyards. Whether you’re a knowledgeable wine expert or an enthusiastic amateur looking for new taste experiences, Villa La Madonna can meet all your needs.

CHEESE & WINE TASTING
The area around Villa La Madonna is known for its tasteful cheeses and there you will find many small cheesemakers living and producing according to traditional methods.
At this event you get to taste locally produced cheeses and learn more about their unique history. During the tasting you get to try the world-famous “Robiola cheese” from the little town Roccaverano, just a few kilometres away, and to taste suitable wines from the area.
WINE TASTING BAROLO
Not far from Villa La Madonna you will find world-famous districts producing wines like Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Gavi and Asti Spumante. A fantastic wine district and one of Italy’s best known with for example 200 producers of Barolo wines.
In 2014 they were added to the list of Unesco’s World Heritage sites. According to your wishes, we arrange visits to these wonderful wine landscapes and guide you to well-known vineyards for wine tasting.
WEDDINGS IN THE PIEDMONT
At our place most bridal couples celebrate their wedding with family and friends over three days. The day of arrival is the perfect day for guests to get to know each other and get acquainted with Villa La Madonna.
Day one starts in the afternoon with check-in. In the evening we serve a classic Italian buffet with inspiration from all over Italy. Later on you can socialize and enjoy our great atmosphere with an open bar, music and perhaps some dancing.
On the big day it’s nice to wake up in place and enjoy a wonderful breakfast. Bridal couple and guests will already then get into a lovely mood and be ready for a beautiful ceremony among Villa La Madonna’s rows of vines. The wedding days end on day three with a tasteful brunch before it is time to depart.

YOGA
To stay at Villa La Madonna can be a spiritual experience in itself. The beautiful building and the peaceful surroundings create the perfect environment for somebody who wants to relax and nourish their soul.
Here you can take time off from everyday stress and enjoy yoga and meditation. We have a lovely large yoga studio with a great view over the landscape.
Together with our professional yoga instructor you train on your own level. Regardless if you are a beginner or more experienced, everyone is welcome to participate at their own pace.
TREKKING
The area around the vineyard has several inviting tracks to explore. Short or long walks, you can be sure to enjoy the amazing nature. To maximize your experience, we also offer private tours with our own guide.
If you wish to bring an Italian picnic along, this can be arranged and for larger groups we can fix a picnic buffet at the place where you choose to have a rest.
GRAPE HARVESTING
At Villa La Madonna we harvest our grapes in the beginning of October. This is an amazing experience where you can enjoy our vineyards, learn more about how to grow wine and participate in picking the grapes.
This is an exclusive package with limited places including, besides the harvesting, a long lunch among the rows of vines, cheese tasting and towards the evening a traditionally cooked dinner.
TRUFFLE HUNTING
During October and November we are looking for Piemonte’s world famous white truffle – one of the most exclusive delicacies in the world.Come along on an exciting truffle hunt with hunters and dogs in a stunningly autumn-coloured, vine-dotted landscape.
During a break we indulge in Piemonte delicacies and wine from Villa La Madonna. You may also buy some truffle to take home – or to enjoy while dining that same evening.
ACQUI TERME
It takes about 15 minutes by car to reach our nearest town Acqui Terme. This ancient Roman town has an exciting history and is known for its curative waters and for its thermal baths.
Here you find the famous hot spring where so many people want to enjoy its healing waters. The town’s cosy atmosphere is enhanced by its many shops, bars, excellent restaurants and cafés. We recommend a visit to the local wine-bar La Curia, which will be a special experience.
TRACTOR TOUR TO A VINEYARD
A really fun excursion for family and friends is when our neighbour Vittorio comes to pick you up with his tractor and take you to his rustic vineyard 15 minutes away.
There you will take part in the life of a small Italian vineyard and try to bottle your own wine. The tour includes wine and snacks and lasts about 2-3 hours.
HORSEBACK RIDING
Piemonte’s magical surroundings are made for lovely horseback excursions. We arrange tours located only 10 minutes away from Villa La Madonna where you ride through beautiful nature together with an instructor.
For this we recommend long pants and shoes with a low heel. It’s not advanced horseback riding but some riding experience is necessary.
BOULES & TABLE TENNIS
If you want to challenge your friends or family, take a walk to our park area 75 meters from the hotel. Here we offer you the possibility to play some boules or table tennis in the welcoming shade from the surrounding trees.
CYCLING
To explore the Piemonte landscape on a bike is an amazing experience for all senses. You can borrow one of our four bikes and cycle between the vine fields from Villa La Madonna, and perhaps end your tour in the small neighbouring village Monastero Bormida for a cappuccino at the local bar. Professional mountain bike tours can be arranged with our own guide.
MOUNTAIN BIKE
Villa La Madonna’s beautiful surroundings are perfect for riding a mountain bike. We have professional mountain bikes to rent and if you wish to go on a guided tour we can help you with that. We tailor your excursion based on your wishes and needs.
GOLF
About an hour away by car from Villa La Madonna you will find several fantastic golf courses, both 18 and 36 hole courses framed by wonderful vines. You are welcome to contact us for more information.
TRUFFLE MARKET IN ALBA
During the truffle season in October and November a visit to the truffle market in Alba is a must. The white truffle can only be found in a few places in the world and this exclusive delicacy is something we recommend to everyone who is visiting Piemonte.
Truffle served together with a superb Barolo is a taste experience you neither can or want to miss!
THE MEDITERRANEAN
The Ligurian coast is one of Europe’s most beautiful coastal areas. At a comfortable distance by car from Villa La Madonna you will find coastal towns like Alassio, Portofino and Rapallo. There you can enjoy stunning views, taste the local fish and shellfish and find some really exciting shopping.
TORINO
Torino is the closest major city to Villa La Madonna. Despite its history as Italy’s industrial centre during the 1900s, Torino is both stylish and beautiful. Avenues and squares are framed by historical buildings and the crown jewel is the elegant Piazza San Carlo.
This square is surrounded by buildings with classical arcades and one end of the square is dominated by the beautiful churches Santa Cristina and San Carlo. Here you will also find some of Torino’s exclusive boutiques and historical cafés side by side.

SLOWFOOD
It was here in Piemonte, in the little town of Bra, that the concept “slow food” was born. Since 1986 this humble concept has guided chefs – amateurs as well as world famous food artists – in the art of focusing on quality and making sure that all ingredients used in their creations are locally produced, with traditional local methods.
Time and patience are key words when it comes to both the cooking and the enjoying of the result.
WHITE TRUFFLE
Piemonte is also home to the world famous Italian white truffle, Tuber Magnatum. And it’s here you will find the world’s truffle capital, Alba.
The scent of truffle is something that has to be experienced and the fact that the superb Barolo wines also come from the same region is to be considered purely as a bonus. Barolo, you see, is made from the Nebbiolo grape and is regarded the perfect complement to white truffle.
DELICACIES
In combination with wines, truffle and “slow food” Piemonte is also home to several culinary innovators.
