Time stands still on the hill of Fourvière. The birthplace of Gallo-Roman civilisation, Fourvière stands guard over the city of Lyon in a conventual silence. Known to locals as the “hill that prays”, it is a uniquely serene and spiritual place.

Maïa Group chairman Christophe Gruy fell in love with it. And Villa Maïa is the result. A sumptuously intimate hotel, dreamt up, designed and decorated by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Jacques Grange and Louis Benech. An unprecedented trio brought together for Villa Maïa

JACQUES GRANGE
He has decorated the houses of some of the world’s greats, from Yves Saint Laurent and Isabelle Adjani to Princess Caroline of Monaco and Francis Ford Coppola, as well as the Mark Hotel in New York and the NY Paloma Picasso jewellery boutique, amongst others.

A while ago, an article was dedicated to him in The New York Times entitled, “Jacques Grange, le bon goût”. Designing Villa Maïa’s interior, Jacques Grange was thrilled to work in France, and he always stops by to visit us!

JEAN-MICHEL WILMOTTE
World-renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte takes care of every aspect. “Villa Maïa’s architecture is contemporary while respecting the history of the Antiquaille site.

This is demonstrated in the contours and profiles of the façade, and the colourimetry. Thanks to its hillside location, most of the hotel’s rooms have an extraordinary view over the city. It’s a real-life painting.”

LOUIS BENECH
Louis Benech came to gardening as a result of his love for plants. Holder of a master’s degree in law, he also chose to work in England as a horticultural labourer at the famous Hillier Nurseries.

He then became a gardener at a private property in Normandy before finally embarking on his landscaping career in 1985. In 1990, alongside Pascal Cribier and François Roubaud, he was responsible for the redevelopment of the old part of the Tuileries Gardens.

Since then, he has worked on numerous gardens that have already been established, such as those of the Élysée, the Quai d’Orsay, Courson, Pavlovsk’s Rose Pavilion in Saint Petersburg, the imperial estate of Achilleion in Corfu, the quadrilateral of the French National Archives, the park at Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire and the Water Theatre Grove in the gardens of Château de Versailles.

We are always thrilled to welcome back Louis Benech to show him how much we love our garden and are taking care of its development.

THE TEAM
Above all, Villa Maïa is a home where life is good. This cannot be achieved without a team that also considers Villa Maïa its home and that welcomes its guests. Every minute of every day, there’s someone looking out for you and your well-being.

Our home is three years old, and we have carefully constructed the service we strive to give you on a daily basis with passion and perseverance. Since our inauguration, we have been bringing a specific phrase to life every morning: “kindness is not a weakness”, quite the opposite.

The rooms, the suites and the apartment
At the top, all the way up, in the silence, peace and quiet of the “hill that prays”, the view looks out over the extraordinary gardens and, further away, the roofs of the city and the vastness of the infinite horizon.

Nearby, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière stands guard as the 37 suites and rooms nestle within the Antiquaille site as though they have always been there. There, in the softness and serenity so beautifully interpreted by interior designer Jacques Grange

The apartment
Wander from space to space in this splendid 100 m² suite, without ever losing sight of Lyon at the foot of the hill. Enjoy a signature cocktail on your terrace and let time stand still for a moment – or a day! You know you’ll have to leave sooner or later, but, as the saying goes, leaving is the only way to return

The suites
See the sunrise from your terrace. Watch the city gradually awakening or, as night falls, the fantastic, unique lights as they come on.

Conceived by Jacques Grange, all our spacious and comfortable suites have spectacular views overlooking Lyon. From 60 to 65 m², our suites have a living room and a private terrace with a city view out over Lyon.

The rooms
The decor combines a hint of artistic impertinence with Charles Maze’s anamorphosis. As for the majestic bathrooms, they feature Carrara marble and polished nickel, opening onto the bedrooms via glass partitions.

Treat yourself to a moment of peace and quiet thanks to the view overlooking the contemplative gardens designed by Louis Benech and the Gallo-Roman theatres nearby to immerse yourself in history.

Gastronomy
Hailed by the food critic Curnonsky as the “world capital of gastronomy” in 1935, Lyon has never failed to deliver. Coming to Lyon means having a desire to discover the excellence created in the kitchens of the old Mères of Lyon.

It means experiencing the convivial cuisine that is typical of Lyon’s bouchon restaurants. Lyon has successfully preserved its culinary traditions without shunning new trends. In fact, it creates them. Make sure you don’t miss out on this vital part of your stay: ENJOY.

Christian Têtedoie’s Restaurant
There is no greater pleasure than sitting at a dining table in Lyon with the city spread out below you as your backdrop. In front of the hotel, Christian TETEDOIE reinterprets the classic “Bocusiens” inspired by famous French chef Paul Bocuse.

An adopted native of Lyon with true culinary stripes, Christian Têtedoie won Best Apprentice in France at the age of 17, Meilleur Ouvrier de France at age 35 and is the President of Maîtres Cuisiniers de France.

Breakfast
It is customary to say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! You decide where to enjoy it: in the lounge with us, on the terrace overlooking the garden or in your room. All year round, we select seasonal products from our region to help you get your day off to a good start.

Allow yourself to be tempted by different delicacies every day (crepes, waffles, pancakes, and more). Breakfast is served from 7 am to 10.30 am during the week and until 11 am on weekends.

The Bar
Choose between the modern atmosphere of the bar with breathtaking views, crafted from Saint-Just glass and polished nickel, or the cosy charm of the library with its terrace overlooking the gardens.

For a cup of tea
What if afternoon tea became a moment in time suspended above the skies? Make yourself comfortable on the library’s velvet sofas. Here, the decor fades to give way to tradition in the form of a brioche full of pink praline, which leaves its delectable scent of caramelised sugar lingering in the air around it.

For a cocktail fancy
At the end of the day or the beginning of an evening, enjoy an almond-flavoured cocktail that blends with Villa Maïa’s scents.

Located on the first floor of the hotel, the bar is open for you from 5 pm until 11 pm, Sunday to Thursday, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (free garage and valet parking available).

The Baths
IN TRUE ROMAN STYLE
The ancient vaults revisit the art of the Roman thermal baths. Oscillating plaster walls and a Pompeiian ceiling supported by large marble columns.

The Spa
Provided by the Maison de Beauté : Belle de Maïa, experts will be here for you from 9am until 6pm everyday to advise you the treatment that will suit your wishes : moisturing, detox, mother-to-be, different kind of massages with exotic and relaxing frangrences.

The pool
A sublime, black-and-white, chessboard marble floor leads to the majestic, 20-metre-long swimming pool. The spa is open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for our guests and from 9a.m. to 6p.m. for guests at the SPA. Jacuzzi, sauna, hammam and fitness room.

Cosmetics
Behind the palindrome of the evocative brand name, each innovation has its own story to tell. Did you know that Lyon, where our cosmetics originated, is the world capital of the rose? Since the end of the 19th century, Lyon’s wide valley has been producing half of France’s roses.
