The 700 year old artist town of Ootmarsum, with its peaceful traditional half-timbered facades, is located in northwestern Twente. The narrow alleys entice you to stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere.

Inspiring and fascinating
In the most well known and architecturally fascinating Tom Schulten museum, you will find an overview of the works of this internationally renowned painter from the Twente region, famous for his colorful mosaic landscape paintings.
The museum also displays bronze, ceramic, marble and glass pieces by Dutch and international sculptors.

The “Parkhotel de Wiemsel” in the eastern Netherlands is located in the most beautiful area of the Twente region, a picturesque area where traditions live on. Kunstgalerie Parkhotel de Wiemsel
In a historic country house on the edge of our hotel park, we offer our guests a small exclusive and very diverse collection of contemporary art from all over the world, from paintings to graphics to sculptures.
Henning J. Claassen, owner of the Parkhotel de Wiemsel, has been an enthusiastic art collector for over 40 years and founded the “Galerie im Alten Kaufhaus” in his home town Lüneburg 10 years ago. Now the guests of the Parkhotel can also enjoy the extraordinary collection in a private atmosphere.
The Collection
In addition to the hyperrealistic, life-size sculpture “Reunion” by the Australian Sam Jinks, the gallery offers a broad spectrum of works by well-known and less well-known international artists such as Ackermann, Bryan, Christo, Feng, Giacometti, Penck, Ramos, Szczesny, Vasarely, Wesselmann, Warhol and many others.
As a special service we have created a small gallery guide for our guests. This way you can easily walk from picture to picture and also inform yourself about the artist.
The Collector
Henning J. Claassen (HJC) was born in 1944 in Lüneburg/D, the son of a family of bakers who have been living here for four generations.
He completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and then studied Economics and Psychology in Los Angeles/USA. After returning from the USA, he went into business for himself at the age of 27 and founded a number of successful companies over the years.
In addition to his professional career, HJC became interested in contemporary art at an early age and began collecting paintings and sculptures of the 20th and 21st centuries. His passion for travelling and art led him and his wife to Ootmarsum a few years ago.
Her then favourite hotel “De Wiemsel” unfortunately went insolvent in 2013. The enthusiasm for the place and the hotel was so big that HJC decided to buy the hotel, completely renovated it in 2015 and reopened it.
And so with the “Kunstgalerie Parkhotel de Wiemsel” the circle for the passion for art in a very special place comes full circle.
