Agriturismo Mormoraia San Gimignano

Mormoraia was once a convent, now it’s an elegant farm, run by the Passoni family. Mormoraia is located in the heart of Tuscany, on the Chianti hills, in a panoramic position of rare beauty, overlooking the towers of San Gimignano.

The Agriturismo has 30 renovated double bedrooms in different styles and layouts, preserving the typical Tuscan rustic warmth with a refined attention to details. All rooms have free access to the swimming pool with Jacuzzi and wellness area with sauna and turkish bath.

THE HISTORY
The history of the farm La Mormoraia is the story of fathers’ passions transmitted and carried on by sons. It was in fact 1980 when the former convent La Mormoraia, whose name seems to come from the sound of the nuns whispering prayers within the convent walls, became the property of Pino Passoni, a Milan businessman, and his wife Franca.

Only in 1990, one year after the birth of their son Alessandro, they began the careful renovation of the estate buildings and vineyards, with the intention to completely restore it while maintaining the same characteristics of old times.

THE BIRTH
After five years of intense work in 1995, both the farmhouse and the first cellar were inaugurated. In the same year the “Mormoraia ” brand was launched on the international market, exporting the wines all over the world: to the United States and as far as to Australia.

The following years are those of a continuous restoration and renovation of the property, during which the agricultural production is promoted through the expansion of the hectares of vineyards and olive groves that surround the estate and the introduction of modern equipment for winemaking, bottling and aging of the wine in the big barrels and in French oak barrels.

TODAY
It’s 2012 when Alessandro, only 23 years old, takes control of the company and constantly supported by his parents, reorganizes it: the apartments are transformed into elegant B & B rooms, the sauna and steam bath are built to meet the needs of relaxation and well-being, while the agricultural production is converted into organic.

In 2014 the restaurant was opened to allow guests discover the flavors of the Tuscan tradition. Today the research is going on with perseverance to improve the quality both of the hospitality of our farmhouse as well as of our products.

ROOMS & SUITES
30 double rooms, in different types, all renovated in the warm traditional and rustic Tuscan style, adding a refined attention to detail. Floors in handmade terracotta, stone walls, ceilings with exposed chestnut beams are combined with natural linen fabric and the solid wood furniture specially made by local craftsmen. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, WiFi access, minibar and safe.

All rooms have free access to the wellness area with sauna and steam bath. The rooms on the ground floor have a private area, equipped with table, chairs and lounge chairs for relaxing moments.

THE BREAKFAST
Breakfast is a joy to wake up and an emotion for the palate and is prepared by selecting quality products, favoring local handicrafts. Organic milk and yogurt, pies and homemade cakes, cold cuts and DOP cheese are some of the products that you can taste in the morning on the terrace of our restaurant with the magnificent view of the towers of San Gimignano.

Located next to the pool, overlooking the breathtaking view of the San Gimignano towers, stands our restaurant, which offers the flavors and aromas of Tuscan cuisine combined with the rich selection of Mormoraia wines. In this magical corner, you can also taste our selection of wines and extra virgin olive oil served with typical local products.

Recipes combining tradition and innovation through the use of genuine and high quality products together with the extensive selection of Mormoraia wines. Romantic with a fireplace lit in the spring and autumn evenings, it offers a unique atmosphere and an unforgettable memory.

In this magical corner, you can also enjoy sensory cocktails created with our wines, as well as taste Mormoraia’s wines and extra virgin olive oil served with delicious croutons, Tuscan cheese and salami arranged with taste and elegance.

Discover our property hiking around our animals, our vineyards, forests and our lake. Everything is few steps away from your room and surrounded by an amazing view of San Gimignano.

E-MOUNTAIN BIKE
Explore the tuscan hills using one of our Electric Mountain bikes. You will be able to visit the ancient medieval towns in the surroundings or simply enjoy a ride in the countryside between the hills.

PRODUCTION
The Farm covers an area of over 100 hectares of which 30 hectares are planted with vines and 10 hectares with olive trees. Giuseppe Passoni the owner, personally takes care of the cultivation, with the maximum respect for the territory and the environment.

ORGANIC AGRICULTURE
Since 2013 Mormoraia practices organic farming. The wine production is carried out by using the latest winemaking techniques, with computerized temperature control during fermentation.

HIGH QUALITY
The big oak barrels and French oak barrels used in the aging process enable to reach the high quality level of Mormoraia wines. These wines are appreciated all over the world and are reviewed in some of the most famose food and wine guides.
