Dining
Beloved all over the world, Indian cuisine is renowned for its use of colourful, fragrant spices, its delicate layering of flavours and its balance between vegetarian and meat dishes.
Using local family recipes passed down through the generations, our chefs also offer lighter variations of the classics and a range of international dishes, all of which can be tailored to suit individual tastes.
Organic garden
A lush oasis tended by dedicated gardeners, the camp’s organic kitchen garden provides fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs for the Dining Tent’s ever-changing menus. Chefs visit daily, to handpick what they need, and delight in touring the gardens with curious guests.
Mughal-inspired dining
The lamp-lit ambience of the Dining Tent with its large communal table, multiple smaller settings and outdoor terrace harks back to the regal tent cities of Mughal emperors.
The carefully curated menu offers international favourites as well as authentic Indian fare, including fragrant Rajasthani thalis. These round platters present a selection of various dishes from curries to dhal, accompanied by rice and homemade roti.
Fireside reflection
At the heart of the camp, the open-air fire pit is surrounded by comfortable seating with views of the surrounding forest. It is an ideal setting for informal meals or for basking in the serenity of the wilderness and the star-filled night sky.
Nightly log fires make it a gathering point – a post-dinner outdoor salon where guests recount and reflect on the day’s explorations.
Wellness at Aman-i-Khás
Centred around a bubbling fountain, the Spa Tent houses two double treatment rooms in which holistic therapies distilled from millennia of experience in the healing arts can be enjoyed.
Multi-sensory journeys of traditional Ayurvedic wisdom are offered alongside massages, the gentle healing touch of Reiki and various scrubs, wraps and baths. Outdoor yoga sessions revitalise, and the lounger-lined pool is modelled on the area’s ancient step-wells.
Ayurveda – the Science of Life
Encouraging balance in all things, Ayurveda is India’s ancient healing system dating back more than 5,000 years. Wellness specialists at Aman-i-Khás draw on its wisdom in prescribing treatments such as Abhyanga – a warm herbal oil massage performed by two therapists to restore equilibrium.
Poornvandana massage
Using a combination of long, symmetrical strokes to soothe the nervous system and warm oil to boost circulation, this traditional Ayurvedic treatment brings relaxation and deep therapeutic benefits to the whole body.
Yoga and meditation
Daily yoga and meditation sessions with the camp’s resident yoga specialist rebalances body and mind. Private sessions are offered in a range of styles at isolated spots within the Rajasthani wilderness, including at Ranthambore fort.
Aromatic baths
After a tiger-tracking safari, soak away the dust with an aromatic bath prepared with fresh herbs from the camp’s organic garden in the comfort of your own tent. Balancing and revitalising, baths can be combined with a number of other spa treatments.
Adventure & Experiences
With their vast knowledge of Rajasthan’s wildlife, history and cultural traditions, Aman-i-Khas guides ensure deeply personal and enlightening adventure experiences, whether tiger spotting in Ranthambore National Park, exploring dramatic Khandar Fort, bird-watching in the lush Banas riverbed or taking a camel safari through villages on the park’s outskirts.
Ancient Forts
Situated within the National Park, Ranthambore Fort is one of the oldest in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protected by sheer cliffs on three sides and dotted with Jain and Hindu temples.
Khandar Fort, a short drive away, is perched on a hill 300 metres above the plains, where a millennium of history is on display in the ruins of its palaces. Explore these fascinating sites with a personal guide, then enjoy a picnic lunch in a secluded setting.
A clean shave and the art of henna
Beneath a tree in a secluded part of the camp, men can enjoy an open-air shave in the traditional Indian fashion by Roop, the camp’s resident barber. Local women demonstrate delicate and temporary henna skin art, traditionally applied to the hands, arms and feet of brides-to-be.
Ride with the royals of the past
Embark on a horse safari through the unspoilt terrain of the Land of Kings, astride a Marwari horse – a rare breed from the Marwar (Jodhpur) region that was highly prized by the Rajput royals.
The Aman-i-Khas horse safari gives guests a taste of the regal past on which Rajasthan prides itself. Through the Marwaris’ story, you will be immersed in the history, culture and landscape of this Land of Kings.
Khandar Fort Trek
Just 90 minutes by car from the camp lies the once majestic Khandar fort. Guests are invited to take the narrow, steep winding goat track to the edge of the cliff from where the ancient fort dwellings, including several temples and stepwells can be explored.
The view over the valley and ravines makes this hike worthwhile and whilst exploring the fort, guests might catch a glimpse of the shepherds who graze their flock within the boundaries of the deserted ruins. Exploration of the fort is followed by lunch served in this breathtaking location.
Chambal River Cruise
The Chambal River is one of the few perennial rivers in the region. A leisurely upstream cruise with a naturalist guide will bring guests face to face with a variety of birds, water turtles and possibly even the elusive gharial (a thin-snouted crocodile on the Critically Endangered list) that can grow up to six feet long.
End the cruise at a wonderful look-out point where lunch awaits, before returning to the camp for a well-deserved drink around the central fireplace. It is also possible to combine the Chambal River Cruise with the Khandar Fort Trek for a truly immersive day-long experience in rural Rajasthan.
Safari
