Located on the wonderful white beaches of Zanzibar’s east coast, Anna of Zanzibar offers you ‘barefoot luxury’ – a combination of individual service, a relaxed atmosphere and all amenities of a five star boutique hotel.

Situated between Paje and Raz Michamvi, Anna of Zanzibar is only an hour’s drive from Stone Town, a UNSECO World Heritage Site, with its fascinating fusion of Arabic, Asian, Portuguese and African culture. Anna of Zanzibar represents this melting pot of cultures in its design and style.

From elegant colonial furniture over rich Arabian textiles and colourful African fabrics to Portuguese porcelain – Anna combines these influences and creates a warm and homely atmosphere in a breathtaking setting on the powdery white beaches of the Swahili coast.

With only five villas spread in our tropical garden, Anna of Zanzibar guarantees privacy and exclusivity. We are dedicated to our guest’s well-being and therefore offer a very personalized service.

The Anna was a traditional trading currency dating back to the days when dhows negotiated the trade winds to the Middle East and India, and Arabic and Asian traders made Zanzibar their home.

Anna is also the name of the daughter and godchild of the directors who founded this boutique hotel on the romantic east coast of Zanzibar.

The 5 Villas
All five of the luxury villas are situated in our tropical garden with views directly onto the Indian Ocean. Each suite includes a separate lounge area, a master bedroom, dressing room and bathroom.

The rooms are furnished in a luxurious fusion of colonial and original Zanzibari styles and have private verandas overlooking the ocean and our garden.

We provide full room service on request and each suite is equipped with the amenities suited to five-star luxury, including a mini bar, an individual room safe, a hairdryer and wireless internet connectivity. All of our master bedrooms are air-conditioned.

Three of our villas are perfectly suitable for family, triple or quadruple occupation due to the air-conditioned living room, which can be turned into a second bedroom.

We want you to enjoy the scenes and atmosphere of Zanzibar’s beautiful east coast, nonetheless a television with Pay TV, a wide DVD collection and a telephone are available in the main house and, in addition to the wireless internet access in the suites and the main house, RIM (Blackberry) and Mobile G3 connection is also functional on the property.

Beach, Pool & Garden
CONDE NAST TRAVELLER voted Bwejuu Beach ‘One of the 30 top Island beaches in the world’
The temperature of the Indian Ocean is pleasant all year round and the tidal differences allow a range of activities. Low tide is good for long walks all the way to the outer reef to discover the abundant marine life in the rock pools.

High tide is time for excellent swimming and snorkelling out by the reef. The beaches are literally miles long, perfect for gentle strolls or exhilarating bicycle rides all day long.

Relax in our tropical garden or enjoy swimming in our beautiful freshwater pool with a depth of up to 3 meters. There are several idyllic and private beach huts with sun chairs in the garden, where you can enjoy your day.

Or unwind by the beach on our comfortable sun beds with a fresh passion and mango juice. Anna’s curio shop is situated just by the beach and offers a range of Zanzibari handcrafts, spices and fashion.

Alternatively you can visit our Shisha Lounge for an afternoon tea or a drink in the evening to watch the rising moon.

Anna`s Spa
The best moments in life are the ones when we feel most connected to self, in harmony with nature and the world around us. Set amongst swaying palm trees and bougainvillea bushes, Anna‘s Spa welcomes our guests to relax and unwind.

Blending seamlessly into the natural environment, the Spa is providing the perfect escape for rejuvenating body and soul. Our professionally trained therapist offers a wide range of treatments including massages, body scrubs, manicures and pedicures, facials and bespoke signature treatments.

We are only using organic coconut oil and essential oils for the massages. The body scrubs are produced by a local woman‘s cooperative – The Seaweed Center – based on seaweed, coconut oil and natural exfoliating agents like coffee, sugar or lemon grass.

For the facials and signature treatments, we use Africology products. Africology‘s skincare products have been developed to revitalize the skin and protect it from damage inflicted upon it by free radicals, stress and a harsh climate.

Africology makes use of the purifying essences in some of Africa‘s wonderful indigenous healing plants, namely rooibos, aloe ferox, marula and hypoxis.

The active ingredients in the skincare products are powerful agents in repairing and restoring damaged skin tissue. Anna‘s Spa is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Packages and gift certificates are available.

The Mainhouse & Cuisine
The main house is the heart of Anna of Zanzibar. This is where we meet for aperitifs in the evening, for afternoon tea or just for a chat during the day. The main house has the atmosphere of a private residence and is often referred to as our ‘shared living room’.

Two comfortable seating areas offer time to relax and unwind with a book from our library. For those who enjoy movies we offer free PayTV (DSTV) and a wide range of DVDs.

A guest computer with wireless internet access is accessible for those, who don’t want to carry their equipment on holiday. Meals can be taken either on the terrace of the main house, on your private terrace, by the beach or by the pool.

We offer a daily changing à la carte menu combining international specialties with Zanzibari spices. The kitchen’s focus lies on fresh fish and seafood and fruit and vegetables that can be sourced on the island. In any case, our chefs are happy to prepare anything our guest’s desire.

Activities
Enjoy Zanzibar’s tropical beaches and the warm Indian Ocean. In harmony with the unbounded seashore, there is also the vibrant capital and World Heritage Site, Stone Town, and the exotic spice farms to explore in the centre of the island.

A visit to the neighbouring villages is a good opportunity to experience the local culture and bustling village life. The Indian Ocean surrounding the island offers excellent opportunities for deep sea fishing, which we will be happy to arrange on your request.

Zanzibar guide
Zanzibar lies on the east coast of Africa and consists of Unguja Island (also called Zanzibar) and Pemba Island with several surrounding islets. The Capital of Unguja Island is Stone Town.

Zanzibar is a year-round destination. The coolest months are June to October, when the temperature averages 26 degrees. This can soar to well over 30 degrees in the hot season from December to March.

During November (the short rains) and between April and June (the long rains), rainfall is higher. Rain in Zanzibar comes in short, sharp showers in the morning or afternoon, followed by sunshine.

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous state within Tanzania. Therefore, visitors from most countries are required to have a Tanzanian visa to enter. Please check with the Tanzanian Embassy or High Commission in your country before departure.

Visas are valid for three months and can be purchased upon arrival at the airport. The cost varies depending on nationality. The unit of currency in Zanzibar is the Tanzanian Shilling. US Dollars are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and bars.

ATMs are available in Stone Town and normally take VISA & MasterCard. Email & Internet as well as telecommunication has vastly improved in the last years and the connectivity is mostly excellent on the entire island.
