The origin of the Cabochon Hotel has become the stuff of legends. For those who know the building it’s hard to believe that it was built as recently as 2012.

It was around that time that the celebrated interior designer Eugene Yeh resolved to open a small boutique hotel in Bangkok that was different from all the rest.

Compelled by his passion to create a distinctive and personalised hotel experience he began searching for the perfect piece of land in the heart of Bangkok; a special site where he could build his ideal hotel.

After a long search he ultimately found the right location discretely hidden at the end of the small but tranquil Sukhumvit Soi 45 off the fashionable Sukhumvit road.

With his nostalgia for the sophistication of Shanghai in the 1920’s and a lifelong adoration for the architectural legacy of the colonies of Indochina, Eugene designed The Cabochon (which means a polished gem) from the ground up to recreate an authentic colonial building that embodied all the romance and heritage of this bygone era in the Orient.

Fortunately over the years he had amassed many beautiful reclaimed architectural features like old windows, French doors, antique wooden panels and vintage furnishings.

These cherished pieces form the core architectural order of the Cabochon’s timeless aesthetic. Although a new building it feels totally original as the hotel embodies the period features and elegance of yesteryear.

As one guests remarked, ‘it feels so genuine that at anytime you expect to see Noel Coward sitting in the bar or discover that Somerset Maugham once stayed here’.

Today the iconic ivory colored, a four-story building distinguished by its beautiful proportions and details such as its shady verandas supported by classical columns and enclosed by ornamental balustrades, offers guests an exceptional choice of stylish studios and suites.

Characteristic French doors open to overhanging balconies that overlook the inner palm fringed courtyard while the tranquil interiors are decorated with both period pieces and contemporary classics.

Now well established on the Bangkok scene The Cabochon Hotel has become a byword for gracious living epitomising a long forgotten way of life which is still valued amongst discerning global travellers who seek understated luxury – yet it offers all the modern day comforts and amenities that guests require in the 21st Century.

The Cabochon comes with two services outlets which both offer relaxing and personalized experiences.

Whether you unwind yourself at our Joy Luck Club, sipping away our signature Hemingway’s style gin & tonic, or enjoying a food fair through different parts of Thailand and Lao at our Thai Lao Yeh Restaurant. We are sure that you will be proud to call us your ‘home’.

Cabinet of Curiosities

As a lifetime passionate traveler and interior designer, Eugene Yeh’s fascination for antiques and vintage goods has brought him to off-the-beaten-track collector’s studios, flea markets, and antique depots in far-flung corners of Asia, Europe, and South America.

With every trip, objets d’art and interesting artifacts are added to a collection that never stops growing, reflecting a life of travel, adventure, and curiosity.

At his second home in Bangkok, the Taipei native has decided to open his private residence on the top floor of the tucked-away Cabochon Hotel for travelers who share his passion for curios and antiques.

The Cabinet of Curiosities is an extension of the style you’ll find throughout The Cabochon Hotel, but offers a deeper insight into Eugene’s personal style and passions, as well as the comforts of a home-away-from-home, working room, and a wide array of amenities.

For dreamers and doers, writers and creators, the Cabinet of Curiosities offers a beacon of inspiration in the heart of bustling Bangkok.

From its living room with antique leather couch, travel trunks for coffee tables, and cabinets chock full of old-time collectibles, to the art-de-vivre working room, where Eugene spent most of his time creating exquisite designs for interiors around the globe.

French doors open to a large garden-clad balcony, perfect for a morning coffee or a sip of tea in the late afternoon. Come nightfall, there a few better places to reflect on the day than in the bathroom’s classic copper bathtub with a glass of good wine, before you slip into a restful sleep on soft cotton sheets.

THE LIBRARY BAR & JOY LUCK SALON DE THÉ

One of the most atmospheric venues in Bangkok, the lounge and Salon de Thé at The Cabochon seduces seasoned travellers from the four corners of the world to enjoy its warmth and conviviality.

The intimate Library Bar sought-out for its snug sofas and cosy club chairs is reminiscent of a gentleman’s club from the more decadent colonial days of the Orient. The perfect place for a tête-à-tête while sharing our signature cocktail or your drink of choice.

Next door the roomier Joy Luck Salon de Thé (the name originating from the mahjong club made famous by Amy Tans evocative novel) is decorated with opulent antique furniture like vintage Louis Vuitton steamer trunks and old French museum vitrines stuffed with fascinating curios and intriguing objects.

In the late evening the informal salon becomes a meeting place for those with a discerning palate who enjoy good wine or a fine malt whisky.
