Ideally located facing Saint-Malo and its battlements, Castelbrac overlooks the sea. Nothing predisposed this sumptuous building which clings to the side of the cliff to become a luxurious hotel.

Rich with an incredible history, the elegant establishment is today the perfect incarnation of the seaside spirit from the « great era ». Castelbrac is a place to refresh and recharge out of time in a magnificent classified site.

Castelbrac is also a fabulous story, the English spirit ‘s living symbol. One day Colonel Lord Hamilton, hero of the Crimean War, passed by. In front of the remarkable building, he exclaimed : « Oh my god ! what a bric-a-brac ! ». At the time, the location was still only sketch, far from the estate that it would become.

Captivated, he bought it from the Fabers, an English family who had founded the resort of Dinard. The new owner renamed the Castel « Villa Bric-à-Brac ». He gave it a neo-medieval style by adding battlements in the manner of certain British castles.

In 1934, a new chapter began for the imposing building. It was acquired by the National Museum of Natural History. Natural scientists moved in. From then on, important research was carried out there, notably by Commander Charcot.

In 1935, the villa Bric à Brac was transformed into an extraordinary aquarium. Children and adults alike marveled at the spectacle of its countless marine residents. The establishment closed its doors for good in 1992.
