Along the route of the Médoc chateaux, share the art of experiencing wine as a way of life. Nestling in its vineyard setting on the edge of Pauillac, between the Gironde and the Atlantic, Château Cordeillan-Bages is a delight for hedonists.

The main structure of the current chartreuse is a mansion dating back to the mid-19th century. Its two oldest turrets are vestiges of the first dwelling, built in the 17th century. Opened in 1989, the house has been a member of the Relais & Châteaux since 1991.

In a timeless décor with modern touches, Château Cordeillan-Bages is home to a hotel and a traditional restaurant. Set in lush gardens, the hotel itself boasts 28 bright and inviting bedrooms and suites.

From the terraces, you can quietly contemplate the vines whilst soaking up the verbena and pine fragrances that permeate the atmosphere.

This stimulation of the senses continues at the restaurant Le Café Lavinal, 5 minutes walking from the hotel, where the Chef brings out the very best in the regional produce whilst offering an amazing dialogue between delicious cuisine and great wines.

Tour of the nearby wine cellars and prestigious estates, working out in the swimming pool, sauna and fitness room, family strolls to the village of Bages… Immerse yourself totally in the epicurean experience of the art of wine as a way of life in the Médoc!

In the right wing of the 17th-century chartreuse, the hotel exudes an aura of timeless calm, with its residents’ lounges, terraces surrounding pine trees and verbena shrubs, library and 25-metre heated outdoor pool.

The hotel offers 5 categories of bedrooms, all of which are modern, spacious and suffused with light: classic room, the superior-room, junior suite and suite, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. In 2017, we’re happy to introduce our new Premium rooms.

Italian king-size bed to meet the needs of all the family, designer furniture and lamps (Franck Gehry, Andrée Putman, Achile Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, amongst others). and there is Wifi available in every bedroom.

The hotel also boasts an outdoor heated pool, a fitness room, a sauna and a private car park. By request, it is possible to arrange a helicopter landing in the vineyards.

Natural light and open space
The rooms overlooking pine and verbena gardens at the heart of the vineyard in Pauillac, capture a more spacious and bright living area (32m2). The on-demand switchable privacy glass separates the room from the bathroom with heated floors, built of Moleanos stone.

An Italian-style shower faces the window without vis-à-vis. The architect uses the round iconic mirror, designed by Jacques Adnet circa 1950, and Danish lighting fixtures by Frandsen, to style the space.

Inspired by the elegance of materials
Linen, leather, wood, blond stone and marble bring to the Premium rooms a comfortable atmosphere with modern and pure lines.

Tailor-made cabinetry in oak, with leather handles, extends over an entire length of one wall, whilst Italian fabrics by Dedar refine the headboard of the king-sized bed and the windows opening unto the garden.

A maison with an epicurean spirit
The decor of the rooms blends with the interiors of this Relais & Châteaux, home to an unusual collection of contemporary artworks by renowned artists – Pierre Alechinsky, Emilio Perez, Gérard Titus-Carmel, TAN Swie Hian or Antoni Tapiès – to name a few. Its open terrace over the vineyard punctuates the home with an absolute charm.

Dining
“Wine and gastronomy are the very heart and soul of Médoc lifestyle. Every bottle and recipe embodies the geography and history, the fruit we have nurtured, the climate, soils, tradition and ‘savoir-faire’ as well as friendship and the pleasure of sharing.” Jean-Michel Cazes

A warm and friendly table
Located a few steps away from the hotel, in the heart of the hamlet of Bages, the Café Lavinal is an invitation to discover regional products. You can enjoy a traditional and generous French cuisine following the seasons.

Inside, the decoration is inspired by the 1930s with red moleskin benches and the air of an old French bistro, while the terrace is offering a nice view of the village square.

Precise cooking, competent and attentive service remain the key words of the restaurant, with always the will to be an ambassador of the gastronomy and the Classified Growths of Bordeaux and the Medoc.

To complete the experience, our Head Sommelier offers wine lovers the opportunity to explore the exceptional collection of our cellar. All the ingredients are here to make Bages a gourmet destination for great wines.

LYNCH-BAGES & CIE
The Cazes family combines wine, history, culture and “art de vivre” to create unique experiences under the name of Lynch-Bages & Cie.

Visits, bespoke tasting sessions, contemporary art exhibitions, cooking classes, personal wine making, the village of Bages… Excellence, authenticity, charm, elegance, hedonism and simplicity are the keywords here. Let yourself be open to temptation and surprise.

THE VILLAGE OF BAGES
Since the year 2000, Jean-Michel Cazes has played an integral part in renovating his childhood village and has placed much emphasis on its history and leading figures.

As such, the main square in Bages has been named after Jean Odule Paulin Desquet, the legendary historical figure credited with creating the Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc around the year one thousand.

When Jean-Michel Cazes was considering extending Château Lynch-Bages in 2003, something clicked and he decided to salvage this small village with its rich history of wine production and links to the local region. It now offers endless opportunities for meeting those who produce the wines and prepare the food.

It has since become a charming and popular tourist destination in the Médoc and was awarded the prestigious title of ”Wine Tourism Pioneer” in 2010 by the French Superior Council of Wine Tourism. This picturesque village is full of opportunities to experience the true ‘art de vivre’ of the epicurean Médoc region!

THE BISTRO
In the centre of the village of Bages, the Café Lavinal opened in 2006 and owes its name to Berthe Lavinal, grandmother of Jean-Michel Cazes. The ambience here is warm and friendly, with amazing objects brought back by Jean-Michel Cazes from his travels and other souvenirs of his grandchildren’s summers in Bages.

Adjacent to Château Lynch-Bages, it is a popular place for winemakers and locals wanting to catch up over a hearty meal in the heart of the Pauillac Classified Growths.

Our warm and welcoming bistro serves a simple, traditional and tasty market-inspired menu made from regional produce. In good weather, its sunny terrace is perfect for appreciating its stunning views and prime location.

The Café Lavinal provides a banqueting room that can seat 40. The wine list offers over 220 references of wines from Bordeaux and elsewhere.
