12 km from Tours and Amboise, in the heart of the Loire castles and Vouvray vineyards, is the Château de Jallanges, a historic monument built in 1465 by Louis XI for his 1st minister. This Renaissance castle was left abandoned during the 20th century, the vegetation had obscured the entire ground floor and the 2927m² roof had been gutted at 90%.
In 1984, Mr. Ferry-Balin, aged 20, decided to drop everything to devote his life to the restoration of this historical heritage. Subsequently, the owner decided to create a tourist activity allowing the self-financing of the work and the numerous investments. This is how the visit was opened to the public, accommodation was designed and receptions were made possible.
Louis XI refused to keep Paris as the capital and thus named Tours the national capital. The Château de Tours and the Château d’Amboise were then both seats of government.
He then discovered the fortress of Jallanges, a medieval construction dating from the 11th century and imagined it as a strategic place forming part of a practically equilateral triangle with Tours and Amboise. The sovereign, called “the spider” since he knew how to weave his web to better capture his enemies, thus decided to install his Treasurer and the 1st Minister there.
The fortress was destroyed and replaced by a new kind of castle, sophisticated, aesthetic and above all comfortable, while reusing foundations and many dismantled materials.
Wishing to imprint “his paw” and under the influence of the cultural capital of the time, which was the beautiful city of Venice, the monarch created “a fashion in the heart of Touraine Val de Loire” by making a brick and tufa stone, on the facades, a desire for ostentation and an aesthetic option of refinement.
Successively owned by the Mayor of Tours, the King’s Minister, the King’s Treasurer, Queens Charlotte, Claude of France, the Treasurer of France, Jallanges is also the home of Marie GAUDIN, favorites of François 1er and grandmother of Gabrielle d’Estrées (favorite of Henri IV), who would have been born there.

SERVICES
When you stay in one of our gites, you have access to many services, most of which are private (outdoors, swimming pools, table football, etc.). Some services are common to tenants but you can book your slot at the reception of the castle to enjoy it with family or friends (such as the tennis court and the billiard room).
