Tucked away on a rocky promontory on Antigua’s south side, Curtain Bluff coaxes visitors from life’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pace into a tranquil and enchanting island paradise.

Flanked on both sides by the stunning Caribbean sea, this welcoming repose beckons visitors with breathtaking views, impeccable amenities and unparalleled hospitality. Our 72 spacious suites and guest rooms offer gaze-all-day views of the pristine, palm-shaded beach and rocky bluff that gives the resort its name.

All of our accommodations are situated directly on the sand or just a few steps from it so you’re never more than a moment away from dipping your toes in the crashing waves.

In the daytime, floor-to-ceiling windows and sun-drenched terraces look across the sea to a lush-green headland, while evenings unfold under a canopy of stars.

How It All Began
In the late 1950s, Howard Hulford set out to find the perfect piece of land on which to build a quiet sanctuary for his family and friends. After an exacting search of the Caribbean, he found it here on the south coast of Antigua.

In 1962, Hulford opened a 22-room resort and named it after the bluff, or rocky promontory, that bisects the property’s two beaches. Curtain Bluff has been growing mindfully ever since, adding accommodations and facilities that would establish its reputation as a world-class island destination.

Howard lived on the premises until his death in 2009. Today, his wife Chelle still lives in Bluff House, where she hosts the resort’s weekly cocktail party (a fan favorite).

Resort manager Rob Sherman has been at the helm of the property’s operations for the last 25 years, leading Curtain Bluff’s 211 staff members who have become an extended family.

Throughout its growth, Curtain Bluff has paid careful attention to maintaining the same intimacy and charm that captivated Hulford all those years ago.

We’re proud to welcome a loyal troup of “repeaters,” guests who return year after year and regard Curtain Bluff not just as a vacation destination, but as their island home.

From newlyweds who come here to start their lives as a married couple to families seeking an accessible and affordable Caribbean getaway, guests arrive at Curtain Bluff as visitors and leave as old friends.

DINING & DRINKS
Imaginative, diverse and simply delicious, the food is one of the biggest reasons our loyal guests return to Curtain Bluff year after year. It’s been praised by the likes of Harper’s Bazaar, Forbes, Fodors and Gourmet Magazine, and with all meals included in the room rate, it truly sets us apart from our competitors in value.

Breakfast and dinner are served daily in the Tamarind Restaurant, and lunch and dinner are served in the Seagrape Restaurant. Afternoon tea is served in the library overlooking the gardens. All meals are served a la carte, with reservations required for all meals.

CEE BEE KIDS CAMP
For all bookings in 2021, the Cee Bee Kids Camp will require a minimum of 3 children between the ages of 3 and 10 years in resort in order to operate.

Planning the perfect family vacation is a delicate balancing act. On one side of the scale, there’s the too-rigid itinerary that leaves kids feeling dragged along on mom and dad’s stuffy trip. On the other side, there’s the circus-like amusement park experience that leaves parents feeling anything but recharged.

Curtain Bluff strikes the perfect balance between both sides, with ample activities to keep kids entertained yet within sight of the nearest hammock (which is conveniently serviced by a friendly beach concierge).

Headquartered in the shade of the palms on our calm-water beach, Cee Bee Kids Camp is home base for our younger guests.

A daily activity lineup runs the gamut from crafting to crab races, while active pursuits like Hobie Cat sailing, snorkeling, waterskiing and court sports keep even the most energetic youngsters occupied all day.

For the little ones, there’s a shaded sandbox with full jungle gym, while our game room offers a break from the sun with board games, computer games, and a wide-screen TV showing children’s favorites.

In the evening, enjoy family-friendly early dinners on the Tamarind Terrace at 6:00 PM. Later on, childcare staffers are available for hire to look after kids back in the room, freeing up parents for leisurely dinners and dancing to our nightly live bands under the stars.

WATER SPORTS
If lounging in the shade is a bit low-key for your tastes, our extensive selection of water sports ensures an all-day lineup of fun in the sun. All water sports are included in the room rate so you can dive, board, cruise and paddle to your heart’s content.

ABOUT ANTIGUA
Home to an estimated 80,000 people, Antigua is one half of the pair of islands that make up the West Indies nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Known for its warm, steady winds, colorful coral reefs and white sand beaches, the island is a popular destination for sailing, scuba diving, and abundant outdoor excursions.

Our all-inclusive rate offers such a wide range of activities that many guests never leave the resort. However, if you’d like to see a bit more of the island, we’ve outlined a few of our favorite attractions below.

NELSON’S DOCKYARD: Just a few minutes by taxi from Curtain Bluff, Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbour is one of the Caribbean’s most well-known historic sites.

Developed as a base for the British Navy in 1725, the dockyard served as home base for Britain’s Leeward-Islands fleet under the command of celebrated naval hero Admiral Horatio Nelson. The dockyard ultimately closed in 1889 and has since been completely restored. It’s now a designated World Heritage Site.

SHIRLEY HEIGHTS: Perched high above the harbor and accessible by car or by foot via the Lookout Trail, Shirley Heights is a former fortress with superb views across the Caribbean to Montserrat and Guadeloupe.

The site offers live music on Sundays, with a steel band from 3 to 6 PM and reggae from 6 to 9 PM. At the Dow’s Hill Interpretation Center, which is located on site, you can watch an impressive multimedia presentation of Antigua’s history from its initial settlement to independence.

MUSEUM: For another glimpse back through the centuries, spend an hour in the cool interior of the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda in the middle of St. John’s, a half-hour ride from the resort.

The collection of artifacts and exhibits tells the islands’ captivating story, from a life-size replica of an Arawak dwelling to the bat of Viv Richards, one of the greatest cricket players of all time.

STINGRAY CITY: If it’s Antigua’s natural beauty that interests you most, take an eco-tour with Antigua Paddles in the village of Seatons on the island’s eastern shore.

Experienced guides lead you through a half-day excursion filled with kayaking, snorkeling, powerboating and hiking. To get even closer to the local marine life, snorkel Stingray City, a crystal-clear ocean pool protected by its own reef where you can actually swim with the rays.

ZIPLINE CANOPY TOUR: Gear up for an adrenaline-coursing zipline ride through the rainforest canopy just a few minutes’ taxi ride from the resort. Safe for all ages, including young children, the full tour includes 21 different lines. Photographs are available once you get back to base.

ADVENTURE ANTIGUA: Adventure Antigua offers three award-winning, full-day, water-based excursions: Eli’s Original Eco Tour and the Xtreme Circumnav, which are conducted on specially-designed power boats, and the Classic Sailing Tour, which takes guests on a ride on a traditional wooden sloop.

All tours have themes of history and ecology. Snorkeling equipment, lunch and drinks are included.

Getting to Antigua
All air traffic into Antigua arrives via V.C. Bird International Airport, which is a short 30 minutes from the resort. Curtain Bluff guests enjoy luxury VIP meet-and-greet service and transportation to and from the airport.

Though Antigua’s official language is English, we drive on the left here, which is an important detail to consider if you’re thinking of renting a car.
