Since its origins in 1840 Grand Hotel Des Alpes Chamonix become a major part of the history of this unique and amazing town that is Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
On the 7th August 1786 Jaques Balmat and Michel Gabriel Paccard were the 1st to succeed in climbing Mont Blanc. This led to real work for the first mountain guides. At this time the British aristocracy accompanied by local guides started to climb the Alpine peaks, between 1854 and 1865.
In this period 180 major summits will be climbed, the Des Alpes took part in the first winter Olympic games in 1924, for this occasion the Des Alpes had the opportunity to have a beautiful tower built overlooking the town roofs. Chamonix became well known internationally, thanks to the Olympic games, skiing became the new winter sport.
Ever since the Des Alpes have continued to welcome more and more people and their passion for the mountains who are amazed to discover the breathtaking surrounding nature, mountains, green meadows, impressive glaciers, the historic heritage and outstanding architecture.
In 2004 the Des Alpes Chamonix was renovated to keep up with the modern times, whilst keeping the old world charm and elegance which has been part of me for so long, all those years of history and adventure.
You can find the Des Alpes Hotel in the heart of Chamonix only a short distance from the lifts, L’Aiguille du Midi and the Mer de Glace. The guests can therefore enjoy the atmosphere of the town centre as well as being able to reach in no time the enchanting surrounding sites.
In 2019 Des Alpes Chamonix completed its last renovation, the hotel now have 30 double or twin rooms, including 3 suites, refined and cosy with light and bright wood paneling. In the reception area you will find a sitting-room with a balcony overlooking the river and with a view towards the Mont-Blanc, a lounge area beside a fireplace.
The wellness centre gives onto the gardens and the river, there is an indoor wave pool, water jets and a large adjoining jacuzzi. Downstairs you will find a salt wall next to the massage and beauty cabin.
To organize your meetings and team building activities, the ideal place is the brand new meeting room, which overlooks the garden and the river. In the private garage you will be able to charge your car with our universal and Tesla electric charger.
And so my story continues with our wonderful team who are looking forward to welcome and share with you the incredible adventure that is Chamonix and the Grand Hôtel des Alpes!
Old Tower Suite
52 sqm chalet style Suite with a double room and lounge area, Jacuzzi on the bedroom floor, bathroom with shower. The sofa in the living room is convertible and becomes a double bed. This Suite can welcome up to 4 people.
It is situated on the 6th floor of the tower and it is accessible by one flight of stairs from the 5th floor. It is equipped with flat screen TV, radio, mini bar, kettle with courtesy set, safe and free WI-FI connection. The view is on the Mont Blanc range and on the Brevent mountain.
Mont Blanc Suite
40 sqm Suite, composed of a double bedroom and a lounge area with convertible sofa (pull out beds). A sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room.
This Suite can welcome up to 4 people, bathroom with balneotherapy bathtub and separate shower.
It is equipped with flat screen TV, radio, mini bar, kettle with courtesy set, safe and free WI-FI connection. It has a balcony overlooking the Mont Blanc range and the river.
Brévent Suite
36sqm Suite composed of a double bedroom and a lounge area with convertible sofa (pull out beds). A sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room. This Suite can welcome up to 4 people. Bathroom with balneotherapy bathtub and separate shower.
Honeymoon
The Honeymoon room is ornamented with wooden beams and old wood, giving it a romantic and magical atmosphere. A duplex situated on the 6th floor, it is accessible by one flights of stairs from the 5th floor, it is literally at the top of the tower.
You will be able to enjoy fully through its porthole like windows the beauty of the surrounding summits. The size is 28 sqm and it has a king size bed, the bathroom has a balneotherapy bathtub.
Riverside
Double room 20 sqm minimum size with a double king size bed (on request, 2 separate beds and the possibility to add a third bed). Bathroom with bathtub.
Sweet & Sour
We are happy to welcome you for this new season! For your meals, we will be pleased to reserve,the best restaurants in Chamonix, located just a few steps from our hotel. After a day spent outside, you will find the sparkling atmosphere of the city center with its shops, bars and restaurants!
Our hotel is located in the pedestrian street, in the heart of the city, offering you the opportunity to discover each evening a different restaurant.
On the menu: Savoyard evening with fondue, raclettes, tartiflettes and other typical dishes of the region; gastronomic outing with the finesses of French cuisine; an evening “Bella Italia” with all the gourmet specialties of Italian cuisine without forgetting the delicious pizzas; an evening in Japan with a sushi tasting, change and a change of scenery with tipical indian food.
We inform you that our restaurant is open for breakfasts only. For your other meals, room service is possible; we actually collaborate with a few partner restaurants so that the dishes chosen on their menus can be delivered to you.
Every day, the Grand Hôtel des Alpes takes care of you as usual by offering you two buffets a day: a sweet buffet from 4:00 p.m. for afternoon tea and an aperitif buffet (appetizers) from 6.30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Breakfast
To start your day in the best way possible, our chef recommends a delicious buffet that you can have either inside or sitting outside on the terrace in our garden, which is by the river with a wonderful view on the Mont-Blanc range.
Lounge Area & Bar
Our lounge with balcony, overlooking the Mont Blanc and the river, is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a delicious aperitif with your friends.
A perfect space for you to relax after a day of outdoor activities, where you can read a good book, play games or enjoy music.
During the summer season you can also have a drink on our beautiful terrace facing the hotel. Located in the pedestrian street, it will immerse you in the charming atmosphere of the Chamonix’s downtown.
If you prefer quietness, our balcony overlooking the Mont Blanc range and the torrent is also ready to welcome you! Our bartender will suggest you every day the best to delight your palate.
SPA and Wellness
Should you wish to enjoy a quiet and relaxing moment during your stay, our relaxation centre, on the garden and with view on the Mont Blanc range, is at your disposal. Do away with all the strain and fatigue brought by your many outdoor activities and restore your vitality fully.
One dip in our swimming pool and its swim current machine, or in our Jacuzzi, followed by a session in the dry heat of our sauna will prepare your skin before you enter our traditional steam room where the aromatised steam will provide you with a double beneficial effect: the damp heat helps relieving muscular tensions and the aromas will give you a prolonged sensation of well-being.
Rejuvenate yourself with a session of halotérapie comfortably installed in front of our wall of salt. Enjoy a relaxing, tonic massage and revel in this moment of total relaxation (upon reservation).

360° Holidays
Situated at the very foot of the Mont Blanc, Chamonix is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the world. The high altitude ensures a constant and abundant snow level from early December to early May.Spread over 4 ski areas, the slopes are easily accessible via a free shuttle service or by car.
The “Vallee Blanche” run is a unique off-track run, certainly one of the most famous worldwide, and an opportunity not to be missed. The Aiguille du Midi cable car will take you to the summit very quickly and easily, but the presence of an experienced guide is necessary to enjoy fully this 20 km run in total safety.
Non skiers will find that other activities than skiing are also available. Walking and snow shoes excursions fans will find all they need to enjoy themselves.
The cable cars of the Aiguille du Midi, the Brevent and the Grands Montets, will take you without effort up the mountain where you will undoubtedly enjoy the unforgettable panoramas on the Mont Blanc and some of the highest and most majestic European summits.
And don’t forget the Mer de Glace… Get there using the typical little train on rack railway and take in the outstanding sights. The sculpted ice caves will surprise you.
