In the heart of this indescribable splendour in the Grossarl Valley – one of Austria’s most beautiful Alpine valleys – is where you’ll find our GROSSARLER HOF. Here, on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park, our chalet-style 4-star superior hotel in SalzburgerLand nestles in the tranquil Valley of Alpine Meadows.

Built in 2009, the GROSSARLER HOF offers a harmonious union of fresh tradition and modern lifestyle in the Valley of Alpine Meadows.

Set in a glorious Alpine landscape, the 4-star superior GROSSARLER HOF hotel in Grossarl has a particular charm that reflects the warm hospitality of the hoteliers – the Andexers and Viehhausers add their unique touch to create an informal and relaxed family atmosphere.

The interiors of the 49 spacious rooms and suites at the GROSSARLER HOF hotel in SalzburgerLand reveal a passion for detail. Intricate carpentry, the finest woven fabrics and original prints on linen canvas endow each room with its own charm and appeal.

Enjoy unforgettable outdoor adventures by day – and refreshing sleep and relaxation in your private sanctuary at the GROSSARLER HOF hotel in SalzburgerLand.

In your room you will also find the luxurious care range of Saint Charles Wild Roots: Shampoos, hand soaps, shower gels and lotions from the sustainable natural cosmetics line from Vienna are produced from European medicinal plants in organic quality and are packaged in refill bottles.

GROSSARLER HOF RESTAURANT
The GROSSARLER HOF restaurant’s timber panelled walls and typically Tyrolean tiled stove convey pure comfort while genuine Salzburg hospitality and attentive service accompany our guests throughout the culinary day.

Start your day at the GROSSARLER HOF restaurant with a sumptuous breakfast to prepare you for an active day out in the Grossarl Valley. In the afternoon, enjoy a traditional Austrian Jause or snack to recharge your batteries.

For dinner, a 4-course meal (with choices, including vegetarian options), a lavish salad buffet and a wide range of cheeses await you. Salzburg’s boundless gourmet culture is in our DNA.

Our chef Thomas Klöckl and his culinary team have taken to heart the Austrian government’s GenussRegion initiative to promote regional food specialities by creating culinary delights – including vegetarian dishes – for our excellent Jagastub’n à la carte and elegant Alpine-style restaurants.

FINE WINE
Our culinary team’s compositions are accompanied by oenophile offerings from the host country Austria, but our extensive wine list also features wines from all around the world.

During our weekly wine tastings, you can expect to sample first class wines from established growers as well as up-and-coming young winemakers.

REGIONAL FOOD
We like to dish up what comes naturally, so we have taken to heart the Austrian government’s GenussRegion initiative to promote regional food specialities. All the GROSSARLER HOF’s dishes are based on excellent products sourced from the Pongau gourmet region.

Our dishes reflect the history of a region where the art of preparing game and venison has been perfected for centuries. Traditional game and venison recipes complemented by fresh and inspired variations are the secret of our gastronomic success.

Naturally, every dish on our menu is made with our region’s top quality Pongau produce – and what better accompaniment can there be to our regional food than a glass of excellent wine?

THE PONGAU GOURMET REGION
Gourmets have long regarded the Pongau region as a culinary centre of excellence, especially with regard to game and venison. The Austrian GenussRegion scheme has even officially recognised it as a region of special culinary interest.

In 2014, special gourmet status was also awarded to the five small cheeseries in the Grossarl Valley that produce a wide range of farmhouse cheeses, from curd cheese and hard cheeses to the famous ‘sour cheese’.

JAGASTUB’N AT THE GROSSARLER HOF
The ambience of our outstanding Jagastub’n à la carte restaurant in the Grossarl Valley transports you back in time: linen table cloths, rustic wooden chairs and benches, a tiled stove and hunting trophies.

The Jagastub’n seats up to 30 diners and is available for private parties and events. We also offer a parties and events planning service! The renowned Falstaff Restaurant Guide 2019 has awarded our kitchen 87 points & 2 forks.

Love of homeland is mirrored in the GROSSARLER HOF’s cuisine, a showcase of regionalism and local produce. The treasures of the Pongau gourmet region are innovatively prepared to produce traditional and typically Austrian dishes that delight our guests’ palates.

Enjoy Alpine herbs from lush valley meadows, fish from nearby mountain streams and the game and venison for which the Valley of Alpine Meadows is rightly famous.

WINE CELLAR
The combination of superb food and fine wine is simply unbeatable, and the GROSSARLER HOF wine cellar is bursting with first-rate wines. Sommelier Markus Andexer’s specialities are Austrian viniculture, rare wines and large bottle sizes.

First-class organic wines and rarities from Bordeaux complement the hotel’s excellent range. Our guests can also enjoy the regular wine tastings held in the atmospheric vaulted wine cellar with its rustic wooden table and original wine press.

AMERICAN BAR NEAR SALZBURG
The sun vanishes behind the peaks and a few stars twinkle in the darkening sky: time for a quiet drink in our American Bar near Salzburg.

Abundant alder woods encircle the region around the GROSSARLER HOF SPA hotel in SalzburgerLand and legend has it that Grossarl village was named after them. The alder is also the inspiration for our Erlenreich Relax & SPA – here we endeavour to put a world of relaxation and wellbeing at your feet.

SKI TOURING VALLEY IN SALZBURG
The Grossarl Valley and its twelve side valleys are home to expansive Alpine pastures and countless peaks ranging from 2,000m to 3,000m. In winter, the Valley of Alpine Meadows is transformed into the ‘valley of ski touring’ thanks to the many touring routes covering a wide range of distances and challenges.

SKI TOURING IN SALZBURGERLAND TIPS
The Grossarl Valley’s largest and most famous mountain for Alpine skiers has to be the Kreuzkogel, the highpoint of the popular Grossarl-Dorfgastein ski area. A more peaceful off-piste time is offered by the famous Kreuzeck.

At over 2,200m it’s a popular hotspot for ski touring in SalzburgerLand, alongside the Filzmooshörndl and the Loosbühel in the Grossarl Ellmau Valley.

In late spring, you’re best to opt for the Gamskarkogel (2,467m), the Frauenkogel (2,424m), the Mandlkogel (2,442m) and the Keeskogel – the climax of this majestic valley at a towering 2,884m. Ski tourers and snowshoers find an ideal après-ski stop at the Loosbühelalm Hut in the Grossarl Ellmau Valley.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
The Grossarl Valley offers superb conditions for both classic cross-country and skate skiers. A cross-country ski trail starts just a few minutes’ walk away from the GROSSARLER HOF, and 25km of cross-country ski runs in and around Grossarl and Hüttschlag offer great opportunities for more extensive cross-country tours.

Experienced guides run beginners and improvers’ courses – why not benefit from the experts’ tips and advice during your winter in SalzburgerLand? Equipment is available for hire from Grossarl’s sports shop.

HOHE TAUERN NATIONAL PARK

FLY FISHING
Both beginners and masters of fly fishing can try their hand on our own stretch of river. The Grossarler Ache provides an approx. 18km long fishing area and is supplemented by numerous tributaries in tranquil side valleys.

Typically for mountain waters, the Ache meanders along its upper course. A small lake close to the top end of our fishing area feeds the river, ensuring optimal water conditions during the fishing in Salzburg period from 1 May to 30 September.

The Grossarler Ache supports a huge amount of life, primarily brown trout and Arctic char, although grayling can also be found in certain sections. In terms of fly rods, we recommend 4wt and 5wt lines as these are ideal for fishing with dry flies, wet flies and nymphs.

Protecting the natural world is important to us, so we prefer all fish to be released back into the water during your fly fishing in Salzburg. Nevertheless, anglers may bring their fish to the hotel where chef Walter Viehhauser will be delighted to prepare them.

In cooperation with the Austria Guiding enterprise we offer individual one-to-one guiding and fly fishing courses over several days.

Course instructor Urs Zulian is a certified EFFA Europe fly casting instructor and will be on hand to provide fishing novices with help and advice. Expert fishermen and women will be entranced by the breathtaking Alpine location.

You find an inner stillness, cast your line, and the water becomes your entire universe.

GOLF
There are eight golf courses within an hour’s drive of the GROSSARLER HOF. You will find plenty of challenges on the beautiful fairways set against the stunning backdrop of the Alps.
