There are good chances to see the huge whales up close in the Disko Bay. The whales often get close to shore and thrive in most parts of the bay, especially the area just outside of Ilulissat attracts the huge whales.
Rooms and Deluxe Explorer Rooms
We have 36 rooms, of which 16 of the rooms are Deluxe Explorer rooms with private balconies and skyview windows.
All our rooms overlook the Disko Bay and the beautiful landscape of icebergs that the bay presents. The rooms are designed for you as guests in the city to have a quiet base to return to, between the many experiences Ilulissat offers.
Restaurant, lounge and bar
Besides our comfortable rooms, you have the opportunity to spend your evenings in our restaurant. Here, with panoramic views of Disko Bay, icebergs and in summer, jumping whales, you can experience our interpretation of the Greenlandic cuisine.
Our chefs put their mark on the raw materials offered by the Arctic nature, and the menu is focused on local produce. The menu varies during the season, depending on the produce the local hunters and fishermen can provide us with.
We strive to have a nice and informal service, where we will do what we can to meet every wish, and create good framework around your evening with us.
In the lobby we fire up the stove and make room for you to sit with a cup of coffee and a newspaper. In the bar we serve cold beer, drinks and wine, which you can enjoy after a day full of experiences.
Annex apartments
Our 3 annex apartments is located 50 m from the hotel. They are arranged with a bedroom and a living room with a kitchen, for those who wish to cook their own meals during their stay.
The annex apartments is a part of Hotel Icefiord, which means that breakfast is included when booking these. Our annexes are our biggest accomodation type, and they are the perfect accommodation for families or small groups.
Activities
Hotel Icefiord collaborates with the tour operators World of Greenland & Air Zafari. Through these operators you can book tours by land, by water and in the sky. On arrival the reception can be of service to help you book tours through these operators.
Greenland holds great trekking opportunities in untouched nature
Especially the Ilulissat area, where you can either walk along the great Kangia Icefiord or challenge yourself to go to the inland ice at Glacier Lodge Eqi. You can also choose less challenging walks to Sermermiut or a guided tour around Ilulissat city. The Knud Rasmussen Museum is only 1 km from the hotel.
In the winter season when the mountains are covered by snow, the sea is frozen and the sun is rarely visible these are some of the following opportunities:
- 2 hours/5 hours walking with snowshoes along the Icefiord.
- Dog-sledge ride. 2/3/5 hours ride or day tours in 2/3 days.
Experience the icebergs, settlements and whales from the waterside
The Greenlandic towns and settlements are not connected by roads and railways. Ever since the beginning the sea has been the connection between towns and settlements, and more recently, been of great pleasure with many exiting experiences.
This makes the waterside an obvious option when viewing the icebergs, settlements and whales in the area. By boat you can go to the calving glacier Eqip Sermia, visit the settlements near Ilulissat or go on a whale-safari. However the must-go boat tour is the sightseeing of the huge icebergs just outside Ilulissat.
The ideal way to experience Ilulissat Icefiord is from the air
You can either take the full tour above the majestic Ilulissat glacier or a shorter tour, on which you focus on the huge ice bergs at the end of the ice fiord. You will either be flying with the original Bell 212 helicopter or the small plane P-68.
