Built on stilts, Hôtel Palafitte is in a unique location: quite literally on Lake Neuchâtel, the largest lake in Switzerland. Like the lake which inspired it, Hôtel Palafitte follows the rhythm of nature, season after season.

Hôtel Palafitte was built back in 2002 as part of the Swiss national exhibition Expo.02. It is the result of a collaboration between architect Kurt Hofmann and students from the hotel management school l’Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne.
It was devised with the aim of creating an astonishing “work of art” that would arouse the interest of international guests visiting the exhibition.
By choosing to build the hotel on stilts, the designers created a fascinating link with the site’s ancient history: in the area, archaeologists have discovered the oldest remains of houses in Switzerland – built on stilts.
The hotel is one of the last landmarks of the Swiss national exhibition, an event for which many worked hard and with the utmost dedication to create something lasting of which the Swiss can rightly be proud.
Lake Pavilion
Designed as independent units, the 24 lake pavilions are the only 5-star rooms on stilts in Europe. Like bubbles floating on Lake Neuchâtel, they radiate a romantic and magical atmosphere, allowing guests to reconnect with nature, with themselves and with loved ones sharing this inspiring stay.
Beyond the large terrace, the neighbouring Alps form a unique horizon. Each of the 24 pavilions has an individual bedroom, a bathroom with movable partitions that allow a view onto the lake from the bath tub, a separate toilet, an office corner and a large terrace with only the neighbouring Alps to block the horizon.
Direct access to the lake through a small ladder from their private terrace. In the summer the temperature of the water is around 23°.
Shore Pavilion
Built on stilts on the edge of Lake Neuchâtel, the 14 shore pavilions offer a unique setting for relaxing holidays in every season.
From the office corner, the spacious private terrace and – thanks to movable walls – even from the bathtub: the breath-taking view of the lake is omnipresent. Only a small path separates the bungalow from the lake where swimming is possible when the warm weather returns.
The restaurant
With its splendid lakeside terrace, “La Table de Palafitte” is known as one of the best restaurants in Neuchâtel. With all bay windows, it stretches all over the beautiful surrounding nature and exudes a warm, friendly and personal atmosphere.
As for the cuisine, it is with the rhythm of the seasons that our chef Maxime Pot proposes authentic dishes giving pride of place to the products of the region and the market. Every Sunday, La Table de Palafitte transforms into paradise for brunch lovers.
Le Bar
The Bar is situated at the centre of the hotel between the reception and the restaurant. Regulars happily sit on the raised bar stools while couples, friends or colleagues nestle in the comfort of the armchairs next to the fireplace.
Le Bar is a meeting place for morning coffee, an indulgent afternoon tea or a post-meal drink in the evening. The menu is varied and extensive. Lovers of local tradition will be pleased to find an absinth fountain to enjoy the drink in the authentic way of the Neuchâtel region.
The smoking room
Open towards the lake, the smoking room is a bright space with a beautiful view. Thanks to its sophisticated ventilation system, the smokers leaving the smoking room are not enveloped in unwelcome smells. Magnificent choice of cigars.
The restaurant terrace
Overlooking Lake Neuchatel and pavilions on stilts, the terrace of “La Table” gives the feeling of a trip to the islands. From April to September, gourmets flock to the restaurant to enjoy the chef’s delicious seasonal dishes. It is advisable to book in advance to get a table on the terrace.
The terrace on the waterfront
A second terrace at water level is especially popular on hot days, because you can cool your feet in the lake. Open from May to September, it offers magnificent views of the lake. In summer, it is the most popular terrace in Neuchâtel.
Sit back and relax, sip an aperitif or share a small snack. Stand-up paddling boards are available for anyone wanting an active break or a different view of the lake.
Belvédère Summer Bay
A “beach club & tropics” spirit sets itself on the Palafitte’s terrace for the whole summer with a cocktail menu – signed Belvédère – for a refreshing feel on the shores of the lake.
