Breath-taking views, untouched an lavish nature, friendly people, and you can find yourself right in the midst of it. Simply the best place to be: enjoying the sun, and the familiar atmosphere. We want you to feel at home and will do anything to ensure your personal summer fairytale comes true.

Enjoy living like Empress Sissi: the views from the balcony of the Comfort Rooms across the lush green of the landscape around Meran. A world of bathing beckons you to the pool, while the large terrace is the ideal spot for sunbathing. The surrounding mountains seem close enough to touch and perfect for hiking.

In the middle of the most beautiful hiking paradise of the Alps, surrounded by palm trees and cypresses, on the magnificent Sun-terrace above Meran, there is the place of our Hotel – the Hotel Tyrol Schenna.

In the distance the spa town of Meran lies like an island nestling amidst extensive apple orchards and vineyards, between high mountain peaks and endless green.

And from the Panorama Terrace of Hotel Tyrol it is possible to see every corner of the multi-faceted landscape of Meraner Land … Schenna the viewing tower – the best seats in the house.

Switch off from everyday life and enjoy the unique views from our sunny terrace and let your gaze wander over the lovely Meraner Land. The tipical mountain scenery extends the Meraner Land and gives it its special character.

THE VILLAGE OF SCHENNA ON THE SUNNY SLOPES OF MERAN
Like two bodyguards, the Ifinger and Hirzer mountains stand at the side of Schenna and protect the village and its guests. Beauty, variety and the picturesque location make Schenna a wonderful place rising above the roofs of Meran.

While in Schenna village you’ll enjoy a Mediterranean lifestyle under palm trees and cypresses at 600 metres above sea level, the landscape in the mountain village Videgg at 1,536 m is truly alpine.

Schenna offers great hiking fun for pleasure hikers and mountaineers in the areas of Hirzer Mountain (2,781 m) and Ifinger (2,581 m): Along the irrigation channels you’ll find easy hiking paths.

Comfortable hikes lead up to alpine huts and pastures. Alpinists can enjoy the fantastic view of Meraner Land during their mountain tours.

The Schenna hiking area includes 200 kilometres of sign-posted trails at various altitudes and of different levels of difficulty. Five cable cars and two chairlifts are ideal for easily reaching high altitudes. The Schenna Card saves you money.

THE PANORAMA TERRACE
When the sun tickles holiday guests awake early in the morning, breakfast is already waiting on the Panorama Terrace. This is how every day begins at Hotel Tyrol, just like all holidays in Meraner Land: with great pleasure. That’s ‘dolce vita’.

In the spring, summer and fall months we serve the breakfast on our panoramic terrace. The first rays of the morning initiate a beautiful vacation day and give us strength for the deeds of those who follow.

SWIMMING POOLS IN THE MOUNTAINS
There are things that are simply part and parcel of a holiday. “Lounging by the pool“ or “doing a few lengths“, for example. Hotel Tyrol in Schenna has an infinity-indoor-outdoorpool with 25 m length.

Swimming, taking a sauna, enjoying the open-air whirlpool on the top floor – all with great views of the mountains and valley. The length of the pool: just right! The water temperature: just right!

WELLNESS IN SCHENNA
Views of the landscape to relax you. But the wellness area in Hotel Tyrol is just perfect for relaxing, too. In the pool, sometimes inside, sometimes outside, in the panorama sauna or the bio sauna with its infrared cabin.

During a relaxing massage or beauty treatment. And if relaxation for you is getting moving, then our fitness room is always available. Recognize the signals of our body and fathom the depths of our soul.

The unique and quiet location of our hotel is the best condition to bring man and nature in connection. This is well-being. Enjoy our outdoor whirlpool and our spacious panoramic outdoor pool with sunbathing area and palm garden, pool service and a wonderful view.

The infinity pool offers ample space for swimming at pleasant temperatures. In the Hotel Tyrol you can enjoy the bathing fun in all weather, in the background you always have the picturesque scenery of the Merano mountain world.

You can enjoy sweating in our sky panoramic sauna (90 ° C) or in our bio sauna (55 ° C), in the steam bath and in the infrared heat cabin. After some exercises in the fitness room, you can have a relaxing massage.

THE PANORAMIC SAUNA
Our panoramic sauna (90°C) is newly built in our spa and has direct access to the outside. You can relax in the adjoining relaxation room or the near outdoor sun-terrace.

FROM THE STAGE TO OASIS
Swimming, bathing, doing the front-crawl, splashing around – and just lounging around, of course. You can do all this in the wellness area of Hotel Tyrol, as well as at the nearby open-air pool, on Schenna’s ‘stage’.

For those who don’t just want to gaze across the valley, but would like to do a spot of relaxation there, the thermal baths of the sophisticated spa town of Meran await.

Terme Merano offers visitors the ultimate relaxation experience in a unique setting between Alpine mountain peaks and a Mediterranean urban atmosphere.

Nestling in the extensive grounds of the spa’s own park with its shady groves under mature cypress trees, Terme Merano has fifteen in- and outdoor pools open throughout the year and ten more pools in the park area (open from mid-May to mid-September) as well as a sauna complex comprising eight saunas and steam baths.

In summer especially, the inviting spa park with its romantic lily pond and bathing trail is the ideal place to while away the time.

For the more energetic, there is also a Fitness Center with everything the active heart desires. And the Spa & Vital Centre provides a wide range of treatments based primarily on natural South Tyrolean products such as apples, grapes, whey, wool and hay, as well as its own range of apple-based cosmetics.

From the panoramic swimming pool, your gaze travels along the entire length of the Etsch Valley, towards the Vinschgau and into the Passeier Valley.

The panoramic outdoor pool in Schenna is open from the end of May to the middle of September from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and can be reached by car, foot or bus from the village centre.

HOLIDAYING WITH VIEWS
Hotel Tyrol on the slopes to the south of Meran, in Schenna, offers a glimpse into the distance, visions, views. The fresh air, the lush green, the gigantic mountains. From the terrace, from the hotel room balcony, from the outdoor infinitypool and the skywhirlpool – the loveliness of the mountain world is ever-present.

NATURE’S SPECTACLE
The Mediterranean climate and mountain landscape make South Tyrol a unique part of the world. Nature and its forces are worth exploring: Schenna and Hotel Tyrol are perfectly situated for witnessing nature’s wonders.

Amazing natural scenarios await you at our house-walks – by the bizarre pyramids up to the sunrise at the Ifinger-mountain.

Time and again, the beauty of nature brings us to amaze… as well as in our beautiful South Tyrol, where numerios impressiv natural spectacles are to find, that attract visistors from near and far in their spell. Find it out for yourself!

HIKING IN SOUTH TYROL
Hundreds of hiking paths await guests – at both high and lower altitudes. Cable cars do away with uphill climbs and traditional huts on mountain pastures reward hikers with delicious South Tyrolean fare. Once a week, Hotel Tyrol takes its guests out into the countryside of the Meraner Berge.

The hiking area in the Schenna district consists of more than 200 km of hiking trails and the area around Meran 2000/Hafling offers an additional 300 km at every altitude.

There are five cable-car facilities and two chair lifts, which will help conquer the heights. This variety can be experienced in one of our guided hiking trips in 2007, organised by the tourist board and carried out by professional hiking guides.

SPRING AWAKENING IN MERAN
Hiking round and about Hotel Tyrol is great in springtime! The scent of fresh grass lingering in the hair, the first birds tweeting out their songs early in the morning. Apple blossom heralds bright fruit and bees industriously work on their next batch of honey.

There are fantastic hiking paths and paths along irrigation channels around Meraner Land, which will let you experience spring in South Tyrol like nowhere else.

During the walk through the blooming orchards you can see the culmination of the flowers during a visit to the botanical gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Plants from all over the world show their most beautiful side in varios shapes and colors. Empress Sissi was unable to escape this enchanting charm.

FROM CALDARO TO LAKE CALDARO

The wine path leads you from the centre of the village of Caldaro to Lake Caldaro, passing numerous vineyards and wine farms. The nature around Lake Caldaro is particularly beautiful in autumn, when the fruits of the many grape-vines and apple trees are mature and ready to be harvested.

Therefore, we suggest you to make the following hiking tour: Especially in autumn, the “Weinweg” is very popular for walking and short hiking tours. Running in the shape of a number eight with its crossing point in the centre of the village, it leads us through the many vineyards around Caldaro.

Reading the signs embedded in the earth along the trail we understand which vineyard we are just walking through. Those signs are made of the materials of the soil on which the wine in Caldaro grows: white limestone and porphyry. The Southern section of the “Weinweg” runs as follows:

At the North-eastern end of the Rottenburg square in the centre of Caldaro we take the road in the direction of Villa di Mezzo and turn left following the signposts in the direction of Barleit (trail no. 12).

Arrived at the Barleiterhof farm, we turn right (trail no. 12A) until we reach San Giuseppe al Lago. Crossing the Altenburg river on a bridge we continue our tour towards the main street (the “Weinstraße”).

Having arrived at the Northern shores of the Lake Caldaro, at the Geier Restaurant we follow trail no. 3 through wine-yards and meadows back to our starting point, the centre of Caldaro.

THE PARCINES WATERFALL
Water is, without doubt, one of the most important natural elements in the Texel Group Nature Park. It runs off nearby glaciers and bubbles up from deep underground springs to fill many crystal-clear streams and lakes.

The Parcines waterfall is one of the most impressive falls in the Alpine region. The thundering water shoots out over a towering rock wall and thunders, rages and roars downwards like a “liquid curtain”.

The sun’s rays shine on the drops of water making a fascinating myriad of rainbow colours. The 76 mt. high falls are at their best from May to July, when they swell with melted snow water, or after heavy rain storms (water capacity 4,000 – 10,000 per second).

SUMMER COOL? HIKING IN MERANER LAND
When the sun warms the landscape around Meran in summer, a spot of cooling off is called for in Hotel Tyrol, too. Fresh air can be found in the mountains on an extensive walk, or on the European long-distance path.

A little further to the south of South Tyrol, the Eppan Ice Holes have rare high altitude plants growing in them even in summer thanks to the cool they offer.

KLAMMEBEN – PRENN – HINTEREGGALM – MAHDALM

The route leads from Klammeben along the refuge “Hirzerhütte” to the alpine pastures “Hinteregg” and “Mahd”. There, we descend to the meadows “Gampenwiesen” and to the alpine pasture “Gompm Alm”.

Afterwards, we take the forest path descending to the Gasthof “Hochwies” and Prenn, the intermediate station of the Hirzer’s funicular railway.

HIKE TO MÖLTNER KASER
The trailhead of the hike is the Schermoos parking area, which is easily accessible via the Tschögglberg Bus. From there, the route follows the E5 European long-distance footpath up to Möltner Kaser.

Here, the hike passes mostly through vast alpine pasturelands and meadows. Following Trail No. 15, hikers reach the Waldbichl inn, which is a good place to stop and eat. The route leads along Trail No. 16 back to the bus stop in Verano/Vöran.

ZIRM VALLEY LAKES
Take your car to Kastelbell and drive on through the thickly-forested Nörderberg to the Säge car-park. Start walking along the forestry road, the Forststraße, to the Marzoner Alm, where you might like to stop for a little refreshment!

Then continue along path no 18. to Schweinstall and up a rather steep path to the lovely lakes of the Zirmtal with its romantic, quaint little Alpine chalets and mountain huts.

The climb is well-worth the effort at any time of the year and the scenery is especially beautiful in June, when everything is covered in the vivid-pink blossom of wild mountain rhododendrons, reflected in the crystal-clear waters of the lakes, or in autumn with its rich colours as the leaves of the trees turn from green to golden-brown.

Enough to take your breath away and leave you speechless! And, whatever you do, don’t forget your camera and an extra film or full memory card: Then, at the end of a memorable day, back down along the same paths to where you left your vehicle at the Säge car-park.

BRIGHT AUTUMN WALKS
Whether in the mountains around Meran or down in the valley, the countryside around Hotel Tyrol displays its finest colours in autumn.

To enjoy this, you don’t even have to go far away from Schenna, as there are lots of hiking paths nearby: whether up to Vigiljoch, or near Naturns in the valley – Hotel Tyrol offers its guests relaxing autumnal walks.

MONTE S. VIGILIO
The car-free mountain of Lana, Monte S. Vigilio, with its magnificent views over the Val d’Adige/Etschtal Valley to the Catinaccio/Rosengarten mountain of the Dolomites is a true natural paradise, and can be reached by cable car in 7 minutes.

If you want to hike or take a mountain bike tour here in the summer, you can easily leave your car behind, as the cable car leaves every ten minutes to the mountain station at 1,486 m altitude.

Right next to the mountain station is the starting point for the Monte S. Vigilio hiking trails, which lead with a slight ascent through extensive larch forests up to the forest lake of “Schwarze Lacke”, and from there to the Monte S. Vigilio Church (1,793 m), one of Tyrol’s highest mountain sanctuaries with valuable 14th century frescoes. Another trail leads to Bagni dell’Orso/Bärenbad, where healing mineral water springs have their source.

RIFIANO WAALWEG PATH
From the centre of Rifiano at 500 m asl, we walk up the Via Hohlgasse, leading across the apple orchards, following the “Waalweg“ signpost up to 600 m asl, where the Rifiano Waalweg trail stretches.

We walk towards north, at the edge of the vineyards and fruit orchards. A great view of Rifiano, along the foot of the Monte Scena, opposite the Val Passiria with the villages of Verdines and Scena.

Then we proceed across the broadleaf forest. When we come upon the trail n°5 (to Rifiano), we walk down to the village and we reach the beautiful Madonna Addolorata pilgrimage church, built in Baroque construction style.

This style is best reflected by the steeple and the altar in the interior. On the trail “Kirchweg” with its stations of the cross that were installed about 50 years ago, we walk back to our starting point.

ON TWO WHEELS THROUGH MERANER LAND
On your pedals, get set, go! The atmosphere has quite another effect when you’re on two wheels. The airstream gently strokes your face, the wheels cling to the ground and glide through the untamed, lush countryside like on rails.

Whether climbing up a steep hill, or pedalling leisurely along the valley. Hotel Tyrol is happy to advise guests about possible tours and give tips and suggestions for the next bike trip into Meraner Land and surroundings. There’s enough space in the garage to store bikes, if need be.

Exploring South Tyrol and its holiday regions by bicycle is truly a unique way to make holidays! Both children and adults can enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful villages in the valleys of South Tyrol.

THE DIVERSITY OF BIKE TOURS IN SCHENNA
The countryside in South Tyrol offers the perfect environment for leisurely as well as more strenuous bike tours. Whether going along the river on a tarmac cycle path, or going up into the mountains around Schenna by mountain bike. Hotel Tyrol makes the ideal base for adventurous bike tours!

FRAGSBURG
At the entrance of the village we turn into the path “Goyenweg” which leads us through beautiful orchards to the Castle Goyen. Before proceeding downhill we cross a small forest, the so-called “Himmelreich”.

After a short ride downhill, passing the Gasthof “Kiendl”, we cross the street to Hafling and we reach a wooden bridge underneath the Gasthof “Einsiedler”. We continue our way on the forest path until we reach Castle Labers.

There we turn left into the path “Idaweg” which leads us to the street “Laberser Straße”. That road – including a few demanding stretches – brings us to the Castle Fragsburg. We follow our route upwards to the “Unterweiher” and the “Oberweiher” till we finally reach the “Greiterhof” at a height of nearly 1000 m.

VIDEGG
We follow the road that leads to the “Schennaberg”, we pass the Gasthof “Hasenegg” and we arrive to the farm “Hoferhof”. We take the forest path in the curve behind the farm which rises in a gentle gradient to the alpine pasture “Streitweideralm”.

A bit underneath we keep left, then we cross the stream “Röthbach” and after a short gradient we reach the small village Videgg. On the access road we ride to Oberkirn, passing the funicular railway’s mountain station until the “main village” Prenn at Obertall.

We proceed on the road for another 500 metres in the direction of Saltaus, then we turn left into the path nr. 20 which brings us first to Untertall and then across various farms to Verdins.
