GAME DRIVES
Early morning and early evening are the best time of day for game viewing. Spotting an elusive bat-eared fox retiring for the day, a dazzle of zebras starting their day or hearing the call of guineafowl as the day comes to an end means two game drives are never the same and offer different experiences at different times. What you see in the morning, afternoon or evening will be different from season to season and day to day.
BUSH WALKS
Under the guidance of a skilled guide and assistant guide, small groups (up to 8 guests) are taken into the reserve and shown how to look for animals using traditional tracking skills such as footprints, spoor patterns and scent marking.
Our guides’ knowledge and experience extend to pointing out various plants that are used for their medicinal value. Look down and marvel at the world that is underfoot with the abundance of insects and creatures so often overlooked. A private bush walk can be arranged for couples celebrating an occasion and we are proud to have played a part in setting up many a proposal.
ROMANTIC SLEEPOUT
Let Kapama’s Romantic Sleepout platform submerge you in the abundant wilderness that spans over 15,000 hectares of pristine bushveld. The sleep-out venue is a raised platform built deep in the reserve where guests can spend the night under the stars. A giant four-poster bed swathed in billowing mosquito netting gives guests an uninterrupted view of the stars.
The platform is private and secluded. Arrive at dusk and watch the golden light of the sunset across the African horizon while sipping on a sundowner. Nature’s sounds set the soundtrack for the peaceful evening to come.
As you wind your way up the spiral stairs to the elevated platform, be welcomed with refreshing cocktails and a mesmerizing 360’ view. The African bush fairy-tale continues with a five-course dinner served by your personal chef at an intimate table for two.
The venue is encircled by a ring of golden lantern light and the stars above bathe the night sky. A favourite for honeymooners. The platform and luxury bathroom beneath it are both animal-proof with a solid wooden gate, lock and a two-way radio and cellular phone supplied for additional peace of mind to keep in touch with the lodge if need be.
With a hot shower, and his and hers basins, the bathroom comes with all the 5-star comforts you can expect from Kapama. Your guide will await your call the next morning and escort you safely back to the lodge. The sleep-out venue is offered all year round but is weather dependent.
PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS
Interested in a photographic safari? World-class photographic training by leading South African wildlife photographers is aimed at beginner and intermediate photographers. Bringing together like-minded people who enjoy both nature and photography, the workshop covers everything from operating a camera to how to compose and spot evocative images.
Whether you’ve never picked up a camera before or just want to learn to use the one you have better, the emphasis of the weekend is on learning both the technical and artistic sides of photography in a relaxing, natural environment.
All appropriate genres of photography will be discussed, and the theoretical aspects will be taught during the sessions hosted in the lodge conference room. Game drives, accompanied by Albie, allow you to put your knowledge into practice.
Groups are kept small to ensure personal attention and to ensure all participants have ‘window’ seats. Private game viewing vehicles are allocated to host six photographers and one professional photographer guide per vehicle.
A FLIGHT TO KAPAMA

Kapama is proud to offer our guests next-level luxury with the use of our privately owned Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. Stylish, seamless and luxury are synonymous with the Kapama brand. Start your safari off with a short flight on our aircraft and arrive on Kapama’s doorstep in true style.
Arrival at the 1.5-kilometre airstrip in the Swiss-manufactured aircraft gets you there safely, reliably and most importantly, comfortably. The 8-seater aircraft’s cabin interior was designed by BMW Designworks and features executive seats with full recline, seated headroom, fine European leather, and custom hand-stitching – you name it, this high-end aircraft ticks all the boxes!
The flight service operates between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International exclusively for Kapama guests on request. Kapama has partnered with Fireblade Aviation and makes use of its terminal services at ORTIA.
Guests can freshen up in the restrooms before boarding the Kapama aircraft or make use of the facilities on their return in the comfortable hospitality suites before moving on to their next destination.
Fireblade has its own customs and immigration facility so there are no queues, no fuss and no time-wasting in getting to your destination. The facilities utilised for this luxury travel option at Cape Town International are provided by Signature Flight services
The flight time from ORTIA to Kapama is just under an hour and from Cape Town International it is approximately 3 hours. Before-sunrise and after-sunset flights can be accommodated as there are full runway lights on the airstrip.
On arrival at the Kapama airstrip, you will be welcomed by a dedicated ranger and driven directly to the reserve in a less-than-ten-minute drive and your safari can begin!
