The charming Landhaus zu Appesbach is an ivy-covered English country house consisting of 22 suites and more than 100 years of tradition. Surrounded by a pristine park lined with beautiful old trees, this soulful setting offers atmospheric lounges and shaded terraces that unlock breathtaking panoramic lake views.
Although the evolving needs of guests required modernization, the soul and character of the country house have always been preserved. It was here where the Duke of Windsor sought peaceful isolation after his abdication as the king of England, and even today the country house is still a hideaway that offers guests refuge from the demands of the world.

The Salzkammergut offers everything your heart desires. The town of St. Wolfgang can be reached in 15 minutes or if you want to get some exercise you can explore the mountains around Wolfgangsee. Salzburg is also only 45km away and visiting the charming old town for a day-trip should definitely be on your list. With the breathtaking Wolfgangsee right outside your door, you can enjoy pristine lake water and a unique beauty that you can rediscover every season.
WINDSOR SUITE
The Windsor Suite upstairs in the manor house with memories of the Duke of Windsor’s stay in 1937 is almost unchanged. If you stay there, you hang your coats and trousers in the same white lacquered wardrobe, sleep in the same bed and step in the same sunken basin of the Roman bath offering a truly special bathing experience.
The large living room/bedroom, the cabinet, the south balcony and the southeast patio with its lake view, the magnificent Art Nouveau stove and many details form a harmonious ensemble reflecting and recalling the sensuous charm of long ago.
PANORAMA SUITE
Living space, refuge. Looking for more space and privacy? You find it here. The large studio is reached directly by elevator and offers a magnificent view of the lake, also to be enjoyed from the balcony.
JUNIOR SUITE
The large studio room invites you to linger. The south patio with lake view and the tasteful marble bathroom completes the all-round living experience. All you still need is a good book.

Like lot’s other artits also Thomas Mann got inspired trough the beauty, nature and ease of the Landhaus zu Appesbach. He enjoyed his time in one of our two double rooms “Landhaus” and left us a notice, that he’s looking forward to return to the Landhaus soon.
THE RESTAURANT
The incomparable charm of the country house is matched by the excellent restaurant and beach bar. This is a place where you feel the love. You feel it flood through you when you sit on the terrace for breakfast and look out at the vast lake Wolfgangsee or when tasting the 5-course candlelit meal prepared to perfection by our kitchen team.
You feel it when enjoying regional specialities with a modern twist, or when you stop by the bar for your favorite drink and someone in the next room is softly playing piano.
In the restaurant you can enjoy the incomparable flair of the Landhaus zu Appesbach and the excellent cuisine. Chef Thomas Höfler and the whole team do have the highest respect for all ingredients. You will taste the quality of local products from carefully selected suppliers.
THE BREAKFAST
It is a particularly delicious start of the day and a treat for all the senses – the breakfast at Landhaus zu Appesbach directly at the lake Wolfgangsee. The à la carte menu leaves no wishes unfulfilled – fine egg dishes, fluffy waffles, variations of smoked fish, delicious porridge or a fresh smoothie.
Freshly prepared, served alongside with a selection of cold and hot drinks. In addition you will find a variety of breads, danish pastries, fruit and yoghurt varieties, cereals, sausage, homemade jam, honey and fruit juices – of course, everything regional.
The magnificent panoramic view of the mountains over the lake is guaranteed every morning – whether it’s from our open air terrace or from inside the restaurant.
THE BEACH BAR
Whether you arrive by boat at the hotel’s private boat jetty or trough the park – you will certainly feel the magic of this “splendid spot” at this special beach bar.
Here you can relax and enjoy the moment with all your senses. It serves extraordinary salad variations, delicious pide or beef tartar combined with a fine selection of champagne and wine, homemade lemonade or classic cocktails.

ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES
In addition to all kinds of water sports on the Wolfgangsee (even windsurfing is sometimes possible due to the frequent Northwest weather and the strong winds), you can also explore the wonderful surroundings on countless and varied bike routes and hiking trails.
TOURING LAKE WOLFGANGSEE BY BOAT
Like in emperor’s times you can explore the Wolfgangsee with the paddle steamer “Kaiser Franz Josef I”. Since 1873 the nostalgic boat is part of the nowadays modern fleet of Wolfgangsee shipping. Today’s biggest ship is the “Österreich” with a capacity of 365 passangers.
WIESLERHORN AT POSTALMAREA
With the own car or optional the hotel bus we start and stop at the parking area 3 at the Postalm. There will be a small fee for the road charge.
The hiking route leads to the Wieslerhorn, where it is possible to enjoy some traditional food and beverages at the mountain cabine. Alternatively, a tasty snack package with regional delicacies can be prepared for you for a little additional fee.
HIKE TO THE KALVARIENBERG
Starting from the Landhaus zu Appesbach and the Ahornplatz to the Kalvarienberg, which is situated above the centre of St. Wolfgang. The hiking route back to the hotel leads overthrough the village centre by the lake. A tasty snack package with regional delicacies can be prepared for you for a little additional fee.
