THE HISTORY
Before being a luxury hotel of the Annecy Lake, the Palace de Menthon had a first life! Built in 1906 by the Gruffaz brothers (one a chef, the other a maître d’hôtel), the Palace was not yet the high-end hotel we know today.
Before becoming an integral part of the Palace, the beach on the shores of the Annecy Lake belonged to the Société des Bains de Menthon which was created following the discovery of the Sulphur Springs in the 19th century, which were already known and exploited by the Romans.
In 1924, the Palace of Menthon had new owners: Mr and Mrs Martin. The establishment of the Annecy Lake was then only open during the summer period: from June to the end of August. From 1987 the Palace was sold to the Espace Tourisme Group, that major renovation work was undertaken, including the installation of electric heating.
The latter enabled the charming hotel to double its opening period and to host conferences and seminars. The end of the 20th century was marked by the visits of numerous personalities from the world of politics, to business, the arts and entertainment who wished to enjoy an exceptional stay between the lake and the mountains.
In 1991, Alcatel Group bought the Palace de Menthon and completely overhauled it in order to make the prestigious Annecy hotel we know today. With the Buildinvest Group, the Palace once again opens its doors to outside clients. RESTAURANT
Refined flavors, an unusual menu and a creative cuisine developed by a team of enthusiasts. A cozy and intimate setting offering a panoramic view of the Annecy Lake and its mountains for light-laden lunches and timeless gourmet dinners.
The restaurant offers a bistronomic menu served every evening from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, as well as on Sundays from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. For the lunch time, from Monday to Saturday, the lunch menu is served from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
BAR
A sublime bar at the Palace de Menthon, Le 1906 is a place with a unique decor, where neoclassical and art deco styles blend together, perfect for enjoying a tasty cocktail in a festive atmosphere. Open every day from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
The bonus: a Finger Food menu is available from 6pm to 10pm. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, come and enjoy the view over a coffee, chocolate, tea and other refreshments accompanied by pastries created by our Pastry Chef. Tea Time is served every weekend from 3:30 pm to 6 pm without reservation.
LA PLAGE
Discover the beach of our restaurant, offering an exceptional space of relaxation, perfect to enjoy a summer aperitif, feet in the water. An original menu made from seasonal products. All this in the middle of an oasis of olive trees, bougainvilleas and palm trees. The beach is open during the summer period.
SPA
The large bay windows of the Palace’s wellness area offer a breathtaking view of the lake’s turquoise waters. The heated indoor swimming pool, hammam, solarium and massages on offer are sure to plunge guests into a deep serenity. The private pontoon allows you to enjoy the 200 meters of shoreline that borders the Palace’s 6-hectare private park.

ANNECY
First of all, discover the treasures of Annecy and its old town, its history, its atmosphere, its events… Who knows it? The first traces of collective life of the men at the edge of the lake, the “lacustrine villages”, go back to the prehistory, to the Neolithic!
What steps then through the Roman period and the vicus “de Boutae”, then the Middle Ages and the appearance of the name of a large farm, a “villae” “Aniciaca”, at the origin according to some historians of the name of the city and the lake.
Over the centuries, and in particular from the 15th century under the reign of the Savoy-Nemours, Annecy became an administrative, intellectual and religious capital. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Saint-François de Sales and Jean-Jacques Rousseau left their mark on the city.
And in 1860, we became definitively “French” when Savoy was attached to France and in 2010, for the 150th anniversary, important events will illustrate this aspect of our recent history.
Nowadays, Annecy and the lake have kept many traces of this long and complex evolution such as the Palais de l’Ile, built in the 12th century, the castles of the Route des Ducs de Savoie: Annecy, Menthon-Saint-Bernard, Montrottier, Thorens and Clermont.
