The Hotel de Toiras enjoys an exceptional location at the entrance of the port of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the historic capital of the island of Ré and offers ideal access, via its bridge, to the old town of La Rochelle.

The façades, typical of the old Île de Ré residences subjected to the forces of the Atlantic Ocean for nearly four centuries, make the hotel an integral part of the activities and life of this harbour town and endow it with great natural charm. The Hôtel de Toiras harmoniously combines the traditions of Charente with the comfort of a luxurious hotel.

Overlooking the harbor or an aromatic garden, every room and every furniture has been thought and designed according to a character. From George Washington to Madame de Sévigné. A unique experience to remember.

The decoration and the interior design of the Hotel de Toiras have been signed by Pierre-Yves ROCHON. Olivia Le Calvez has also had the support of the best craftspeople in order to highlight the history of the island of Ré and of the Poitou-Charente region, including Taillardat, Bronze d’Art Français, regional antiquarians.

The choice of the fabrics included leading French furniture makers such as Pierre Frey, Canovas, Brunschwig, Ralph Lauren. The mission consisted in reviving a 17th century shipowner house, located at the entrance to the harbour of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, like an invitation to a journey.

Olivia Le Calvez has initiated the revival of leading historical figures, artists or explorers through fabrics, atmospheres, colours, antique furniture, patina … to transport you into a cosy and warm atmosphere.

Privilege Room Harbour View
The room in shades of jade is soft and poetic to recall the personality of Evangeline, with its wallpaper NINA CAMPBELL (birdcage walk collection), its fabrics BEACON HILL for the shepherdesses, and CANOVAS for the curtains.

Evangeline allows us to honor the link between Acadia and Poitou Charente and more particularly Brouage. Among the French that emigrated to Canada in the 17th century, the largest group came from Poitou, Aunis and Saintonge.

In the 20th century, half of the Acadian population had a poitevine-saintongeaise roots. That’s why Envangeline, as the heroine of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem and identity myth of Acadia, proved to be a choice in the Hôtel de Toiras.
