Linthwaite House, a contemporary country house hotel in the heart of the Lake District, is set in 14 acres (5.7 hectares) of established gardens and well-maintained private woodland grounds.
Linthwaite House is situated on a hilltop overlooking Windermere, making it the perfect base from which to explore the scenic surroundings. There is plenty for guests to do around Linthwaite’s beautiful grounds. Try your hand at a game of boules on our pitch or an eye-catching giant outdoor chessboard invites you to play a game.
Take a stroll along our walking trails while admiring the local fauna, flora and sculptures, or go for a cycle and explore the ‘chocolate-box’ village of Bowness-on-Windermere. We also have a private tarn where two row boats are available to our in-house guests.
ROOMS & SUITES
One of the most beautifully situated Windermere hotels, Linthwaite House offers luxurious accommodation, with stylish, individually designed bedrooms and bathrooms, many overlooking the lake and manicured gardens as well as the surrounding hills and mountains.
FELL SUITES
Our Fell Suites (average size 66m²/710ft²), are located in the 14 acres of grounds and, feature floor-to-ceiling windows, open plan bedroom and living spaces, king-size beds, and en-suite bathrooms with a bath and walk-in shower.
Each Fell Suite is able to interconnect with a Fell Suite with Hot Tub. Guests are escorted to their suites along a gravel lane past the tarn in our golf buggy. A selection of our Fell Suites can accommodate small dogs, however availability must be confirmed with our reservations team at time of booking.
LAKE VIEW HOT TUB SUITE
From this popular room (38m²/409ft² in size) you can step out onto your own enclosed veranda and relax in a heated hot tub while gazing west across Lake Windermere to the Coniston fells. It includes a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in power shower and underfloor heating.
JUNIOR SUITES WITH HOT TUB
Our Junior Suites consist of two spacious suites, with an average size of 53m²/570ft² and en-suite bathrooms with a luxurious bath and walk-in shower. The Suites are located in a secluded wooded area of the hotel grounds next to the Fell Suites. Guests are escorted to their suites along a gravel lane past the tarn in our golf buggy.
LOFT SUITE
This suite (59m²/635ft² in size) includes a king-size bed, lounge and an impressive en-suite bathroom with double designer bath and walk-in shower. The bathroom has a free-standing feature bath and its own flat-screen TV.
CLASSIC ROOM
Each Classic Room (an average size of 18m²/194ft²) is a peaceful haven with its own character and calming decor. These rooms have double beds, en-suite bathrooms with underfloor heating, heated towel rails and a walk-in shower.
HENROCK RESTAURANT
Simon Rogan’s informal and relaxed restaurant, Henrock, opened its doors within Linthwaite House in October 2019 and was awarded a Michelin Plate just over a year after opening.
Executive Chef Tom Barnes creates a frequently changing à la carte menu inspired by the chefs’ travels around the world. Linthwaite House’s perennially popular light-filled Bar & Conservatory, with outstanding views of Windermere, offers handcrafted cocktails and a selection of nibbles.
Henrock is an informal and relaxed restaurant from chef and restaurateur Simon Rogan, set within Linthwaite House in the hills above Lake Windermere. The team creates a frequently changing à la carte menu inspired by the chefs’ travels around the world and which also utilises local ingredients.
True to Simon Rogan’s farm-to-table ethos and deep-rooted respect for natural ingredients, much of the produce comes from his own farm, Our Farm, located just a few miles away in the Cartmel Valley.
The Henrock team is committed to sustainability and moving towards producing zero waste. The growers and chefs work together to implement innovative growing methods that result in near-perfect produce in a regenerative and sustainable environment.

MULLINEUX & LEEU FAMILY WINES
The Leeu Collection’s founder, Analjit Singh (aka BAS), is a partner in Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines with Chris and Andrea Mullineux, who are the talented husband-and-wife team behind these renowned wines produced on Roundstone Farm in the Swartland wine region and at Leeu Estates in Franschhoek.
Just as Simon Rogan’s chefs use exceptional, mostly homegrown ingredients, the wine offering at Henrock is no less inventive. The wine list has been created to showcase the work of growers and winemakers that share the same ethos.
The Leeu Collection’s founder, Analjit Singh (aka BAS), is a partner in Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines with Chris and Andrea Mullineux, who are the talented husband-and-wife team behind these renowned wines produced on Roundstone Farm in the Swartland wine region and at Leeu Estates in Franschhoek.
By 2016, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines had notched up no less than 18 five-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide since their first release in 2008 and was also named the wine guide’s Winery of the Year in 2014 and 2016. Wine Enthusiast, the prestigious US magazine, named Andrea its 2016 Winemaker of the Year.
The Mullineuxs follow a reasoned approach to farming in all their vineyards and endeavour to be as natural and organic as possible. Some of the vineyards are certified organic. The vineyards are expertly managed by Chris.
Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines’ two portfolios have two distinct stories to tell. The Swartland portfolio encompasses the Signature, Terroir Specific and Kloof Street ranges and the Leeu Passant range is made in Franschhoek from grapes sourced from a variety of regions outside the Swartland.
WALKING WINDERMERE
Linthwaite House have teamed up with local guide, Steve Watts (author of the striking Lakeland photography book – ‘A Year Like No Other’) to offer guests a bespoke guided walking package for in and around Windermere, paired with fine dining and luxurious guestrooms . . . a perfect Lake District Escape.
