The Mas de Chastelas opened in 1967 and quickly became a legendary hotel in Saint-Tropez. It has hosted French artists, thinkers and actors: Claude Berri filmed Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu here in his film Je Vous Aime, and Serge Gainsbourg played piano for Jane Birkin.

Its current owner, Jérôme Pujos, likes to say the Mas is the most beautiful establishment in Saint-Tropez. The Mas (which means “farmhouse” in Provençal) is set on over two hectares overlooking the Bertaud Belieu vineyards.

The heart of the hotel is the 18th century former country home of the Bertaud lords. This country estate is a remarkable architectural gem in Gassin, one of France’s “most beautiful villages”. It is one of the oldest hotels in Saint-Tropez, along with the Byblos, Cheval Blanc and La Ponche.

The Mas is a five-star establishment and appears in the Michelin Guide with a three-roof rating. It offers 14 rooms and 9 suites. Our rooms and suites are among the largest in the peninsula.

Like a home, each room is different: we offer standard and deluxe rooms, rooms with a terrace, a Master Suite, Junior Suite, Bastide Suite, and suites with two bedrooms, a separate living area, and terrace.

The sloping hotel grounds are a pleasure to explore. Italian-style villas were built in addition to the main house to offer new rooms and new views. A large heated pool, tennis courts, pitching green for golf fans, and the gourmet restaurant ensure an exquisite stay in Saint-Tropez, either ‘à deux’, or as a family.

Bastide suite
This is the biggest suite at the Mas. It occupies half of the first floor of the main house.

The incredible Bastide Suite, 80 sq.m wide, has a large foyer, a spacious sitting area with private terrace and stairs leading directly to the pool area, a 35 sq.m (380 sq.ft) bedroom, walk-in closet, large ensuite bath, and a second full bathroom for your guests.

Designed for up to four guests, furnished with a deluxe bed and bedding in the bedroom. We do not take bookings for four adults in the suite, however. Individually controlled aircon and heating, minibar, safe, direct dial phone.

Deluxe Terrace Room
The Deluxe terrace room is located on the first floor of the main house. It is a corner room with two views. A private terrace and staircase down to the pool make it one of the nicest rooms at the hotel.

This is the room where things heated up between Catherine Deneuve’s and Gérard Depardieu’s characters in “Je vous aime” (see “The Mas and the movies” page).

Its outstanding private terrace faces the hills and west, and has sunshine from 11 a.m. till evening. A private staircase (shared with the Bastide Suite) takes guests directly to the poolside area. Designed for two guests, furnished with deluxe bed and bedding.

Classic Rooms
Classic rooms are located on the second floor of the main house. Very comfortable, they offer a pretty view of the pool or the park. Designed for two guests, furnished with luxury bed and bedding. Individually controlled aircon and heating, minibar, safe, direct dial phone.

Large Suite
This suite, located in the Palladian Villa, is perfect for travel with housekeeping staff, a nanny, or a young adult who may return late at night. The second, separate bedroom is an additional comfort which allows full use of the living area.

The two-bedroom suite can accommodate up to five guests and is furnished with a deluxe bed and bedding in the bedroom. We do not take bookings for five adults in the suite, however. Individually controlled aircon and heating, minibar, safe, direct dial phone.

Breakfast
Highlight on breakfast time! Supervised by Florence, breakfast is served from 7am to 12pm, on the terrace near the pool. It’s a buffet, table served.

Meeting rooms
The Mas de Chastelas can host private or professional events. We provide a meeting room – the Bertaud Lounge – which can be configured as needed.

On the first floor of the main house (accessible by elevator and the main staircase) the lounge is a corner room with three windows opening onto a pivate terrace which overlooks the hotel restaurant and pool.

The Bertaud Lounge (together with a separate, adjacent lounge) is designed to host board and committee meetings for 8 to 10 people.

Alternately, it can be configured as a theatre or a u-shaped meeting space for up to 18. It is bright, has its own Wi-Fi network, a video projector and wall-mounted screen for presentations, configurable tables, and a sitting area. Breaks can be taken in the restaurant or on the private terrace.

The swimming pool
It was added when the hotel opened and complements the Mas wonderfully. The pool is surrounded by a 300 sq.m / 3,300-sq.ft patio made of travertine marble, which is particularly pleasant to walk bare foot on.

Relax the day away by the pool at the Mas. Rest in the sun. Our staff will attend to your every wish. Guests can also order a poolside lunch or a glass of Provence rosé from where they are seated. For your comfort, the pool is heated to 27°C (80.6°F).

Golf
The Mas de Chastelas opened a pitching green in June 2013. Practice your swing on our exceptionally pleasant, 200 sq.m /over 2,000 sq.ft pitching green. The rolling surface of our green offers two elevations and five holes. Start off from two different angles at two chipping pods.

It is covered in a semi-artificial, semi-mineral surface and was designed by Nicklaus, the golf course design firm founded by Jack Nicklaus. It offers a playing surface similar to that of a natural green.

The course is reserved for the private use of hotel guests. Private lessons can be arranged with instructors from the Beauvallon and Gassin golf courses.

Tennis
The Mas de Chastelas is one of the only hotels in Saint-Tropez to offer its clients private tennis courts. Our two porous concrete courts are located at the hotel entrance, next to the new pitching green. No need to worry about booking a court: because they are reserved for guests, one is often available.

Children are allowed to use the courts. Rackets and balls can be borrowed. Due to the heat, however, we recommend that you not play at the hottest times of the day.

The park
The special atmosphere at the MAS DE CHASTELAS may come from its park. The Mas is nestled in the foothills on a natural slope that adds much to the inherent charm of the two-hectare property.

The tour begins by walking through the main gate. On the right is a view of the tennis courts and golf green. The sprawling lawns to the left and right offer a fresh, clear perspective. Immediately, you know where you are. This is a park, not a garden, and it feels like home.

The park extends over two hectares, with lush vegetation planted down a gentle slope and revealed like theatre décor. A special feature of the park are the fully-grown trees and shrubs that fill it – nature is our gardener!

The main tree species on the property are holm oak, cork oak and mimosa. We also have magnificent umbrella pines, the younger of which grow haphazardly among the oleander..

The park is designed as a space to walk and take a break. Several covered and uncovered pavilions provide a place to be alone. Enjoy the peace and quiet in a lounge chair on terraces nestled among the greenery.

Low-growing plants in the garden include bay trees, oleander and pittosporum (single color and multi-colored). From this luxurious vegetation spring blossoms of every color: lavender, wisteria, climbing rose, daisies and shrub verbenas which blossom in the mid-summer sun…

Orange trees in the garden produce pounds and pounds of fruit every year – in the winter, that is, when the mimosas are in bloom. Don’t worry though, wood pigeons, doves, and of course cicadas will be here during your stay.

Rarer species of trees in the garden include pomegranate, Judas, strawberry (produces fruit in the winter), medlar and eucalyptus. Spring (until mid-June) is the best time to see the flowers, including our spectacular white and pink oleander bushes. Flowers are less prominent after that – but summer smells wonderful too.

Shuttle service
A shuttle service is available daily between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. This service is included in the price of your room. We can take you into town or to the Pampelonne beaches. We can also come pick you up.

We suggest that you let reception know when you need a shuttle so they can inform our drivers. For longer trips (to the airport in Nice, Toulon-Hyères, Cannes, or Monaco, for example), we can arrange transport with a partner company.
