ISLAND LANDSCAPES
The island, with its vividly volcanic nature took its current form some 3,700 years ago. It transformed following a cataclysmic volcanic eruption that tore the main body of Thera away, leaving the iconic Caldera as you see it now, looking like it’s floating like a crescent of steep cliffs on the glittering Aegean sea.

You can check out the caldera’s bluff hills from the deck of a yacht or a catamaran, or even walk or swim around it; note the multi-coloured rock types with rainbow effects on their cliffs.

Amongst Santorini’s must-see beaches is the Red Beach, with its backdrop of bright red rock cliffs that slope into the sea; its ochre, copper and chestnut-coloured sand and greenish-blue water is both intriguing and beautiful. Another spectacular place to swim is the White Beach, which has steep slanted cliffs that offer a jaw-dropping setting.

Take a detailed look at the Minoan pottery and look at the cobblestone streets that run under Akrotiri’s ancient houses, imagining them bustling with life millennia ago.

The modern and beautiful Archaeological Museum of Thira located at the capital of the island, Fira, offers you the chance to discover yet more magnificent ancient treasures unearthed on the island, each telling its own cultural and anthropological story.

OIA VILLAGE
Reach the center of Oia village by following the stone-built little path from our hotel straight to its heart in just five minutes. Famously scenic and romantic, Oia is petite but bursting with colourful vibrancy, although it has tranquil pockets.

The village welcomes visitors from around the planet who journey here to experience the extraordinary appeal of what is commonly known as one of the most stunning places on earth.

There is something for everyone – art lovers can explore a variety of galleries with paintings, sculptures and decor items. Santorini’s individual nature has inspired a multitude of artists throughout the centuries.

Book lovers can visit the celebrated Atlantis bookstore, opened in 2004 by a group of friends from Cyprus, England, and the US. Not only is there an excellent choice of books within, but the view outside, which can be enjoyed sitting at benches, is also breathtaking.

WINES
It comes as no surprise that Santorini is famed for its excellent wines: with minimal rainfall, volcanic soil and abundant sunshine year-round, it has the perfect earth for growing some of Europe’s finest grapes.

Winemaking on the island flourished in ancient Greek and Roman times but actually became an established practice during the Venetian rule in the Medieval era.

The island’s fertile volcanic soil makes the vines immune to the phylloxera pest and other blights; Santorini in fact has some of the region’s most naturally resilient vines with roots that run deep, in some cases reaching back to centuries ago.

Wines are made from the indigenous (by now world renown) Assyrtiko, Athiri and Aidani white grapes. The Santorini, Nykteri and Vinsanto are three indigenous wines that offer their own particular delights.

Sweet, golden, port-like Vinsanto is made according to an ancient winemaking tradition that was used throughout ancient Italy and the Mediterranean and perfected on the island.

Its very name came from the island: Vin Santo or Wine from Santo(rini), which was exported throughout the region via the boats of the Venetians, who labelled it accordingly. It is especially delicious sipped on the rocks with a slice of lemon.
