All rooms have a bathroom with shower or bath, hairdryer, bathrobe, flat-screen TV with integrated radio, telephone, minibar and safe. Nespresso coffee machines are provided in the Junior Suite category and above. Every room boasts a view of the Engadine mountains.

Almost none of our rooms in the Parkhotel Margna are alike, some walls are at an angle, authenticity and individuality take centre stage.

Some of our 53 rooms are furnished in the traditional style and feature elegant bathrooms made from local Verde Spluga granite or marble. 33 rooms have been renovated and boast contemporary décor and furnishings.

The tasteful wood carvings on the bedroom ceiling are typical Engadine features, and the scent of the Swiss stone pine is present in every nook and cranny of this spacious suite. High-quality, rustic furnishings.

Restaurant & Bar

Our three restaurants will fulfil your every culinary desire. In the Restorant dal Parc and in the Stüvetta da Segl we serve a 4-course evening menu which changes on a daily basis as well as classics such as Chateaubriand.

In the Stüva, which Stüva, was Josty’s living room back in 1817, you can enjoy regional specialities, prepared according to traditional recipes, some of which have been given a modern twist.

You’ll feel as though you’re in the kitchen of your Italian nonna in the Enoteca & Osteria Murütsch , where our team of chefs conjures up Italy on a plate.

In summer, the sun terrace is an excellent place to eat. Summer delights and refreshing drinks served at the table or to your lounger make your time in the fresh air all the more pleasurable. A highlight is our new arch cellar with the Lounge «il Suler», the Fümuar and the Vinoteca.

All our restaurants are stylishly simple, which is why we do not have a strict dress code. We have confidence in our guests’ own sense of style.

Cuisine at the Parkhotel Margna

Rüdiger König has been the head chef at the Parkhotel Margna since the beginning of the 2020/2021 winter season. The German chef has many years of experience in top-quality and award-winning restaurants both at in Switzerland and abroad.

The new Margna chef doesn’t want to be tied to any one type of cuisine; he describes his cooking as an honest and unpretentious craft, with the main goal being to serve happy guests who keep coming back.

He believes it’s important that the products used are of high quality, arrive fresh from the market and come mainly from Switzerland. Given the geographical location of the Engadine, the Italian border regions also count as local, and Sils is not far from the Mediterranean south.

With the Stüva restaurant, the Parkhotel Margna is also a member of the “Slow Food Convivium of Graubünden”. The movement stands for quality and regionality, protects biodiversity, and maintains close contact with small, local food producers.

Restorant dal Parc & Stüvetta da Segl

The Restorant dal Parc is the centrepiece of our cuisine. In the evening, we serve Margna classics such as Chateaubriand or Crêpes Suzette and our 4-course evening menu, which changes daily.

This is skilfully presented by our kitchen and service team. You’ll add the finishing touches to the menu by choosing what you would like to eat.

Stüvetta da Segl

The Stüvetta da Segl is a cosy, separate room of the Restorant dal Parc. The room convinces with an impressive height, the historic half-vaulted ceiling, which has been newly renovated, a high-quality wooden floor and new seating, including benches.

In this cosy parlour you can enjoy breakfast or the evening menu in a quiet, intimate atmosphere. The Stüvetta da Segl with 24 seats can be booked for your private event, for which a separation in the direction of Butia and Restorant dal Parc is also possible.

Stüva 1817

People have enjoyed eating and drinking here in Josty’s parlour for 200 years – and that’s how we plan to keep it. Enjoy Graubünden and Valtellina specialities here in this historic stone pine room.

Classic and traditional, based on tried and tested recipes that have been passed down through the generations, chef Rüdiger König cooks dishes typical to the region. Sometimes with a modern twist, altered slightly or enhanced by adding more contemporary ingredients.

We prefer to use local products and producers and always aim to demonstrate that our roots are in Graubünden and Valtellina. We shop and cook based on the ideas of the “Slow Food” movement, which stands for quality and regionality, protects biodiversity, and maintains close contact with small, local food producers.

Enoteca & Osteria Murütsch

Benvenuto – or a warm welcome to our Enoteca & Osteria Murütsch. In the past, our popular Murütsch was a coachman’s parlour where the carters could warm up after a long ride.

Today, guests are spoiled with Italian culinary art. Lean back and imagine you’re visiting your nonna in Italy. Our head chef Rüdiger König and his team will conjure up Italy on a plate. Everything is homemade and prepared using high-quality ingredients.

Our long-term business partners and wine specialists, Emerita and Dani Matter, have worked with Luzi Seiler to select wines to accompany your meals from all over Italy.

We are pleased to offer you not just well-known producers, but also wines that Emerita and Dani have discovered and brought back from travelling the length and breadth of Italy, from Valtellina to Sicily.

You can also buy all the wines, high-quality olive oils and vinegars by the bottle “to take away” or in our Butia. Our hosts in the Murütsch will be happy to take your orders and offer advice. Enjoy “italianità in purezza” with delicious dishes and fine wines. Buon appetito!

Terrassa

Our hotel takes its name, Parkhotel Margna, from the beautiful, big park with ancient trees.

A colourful summer salad, a typical Engadine platter and wonderfully fragrant, homemade cake! Both body and soul are nourished here in the Parkhotel Margna’s sheltered Terrassa. If you prefer to enjoy your lunchtime or afternoon snack on a lounger in the sun instead of at a table, you can do so here.

You are also welcome in our hotel gardens outside of meal times. Sun loungers on the deck – and thick woollen blankets – are also available in winter for our guests to soak up the Engadine sun.

Hotelbar & Chadafö veglia

The hotel bar is the centrepiece of our patrician villa. Modern, comfortable lounge furniture and fresh colours are in perfect harmony with the impressive parquet floor, the historic chandeliers, and the large windows.

With a view of the blazing fire, our guests can sit comfortably over coffee and cake in the afternoon, an aperitif or an after-dinner drink. Our bartender, Ivan Fanchi, is passionate about mixing cocktails to our guests’ individual requirements.

Pleasant background music will lead you to sink even more comfortably into an armchair or sofa. At aperitif time, our house pianist plays catchy and subtle bar and jazz music live on the baby grand.

Biblioteca

Directly next to the chimney room Chadafö veglia you will find our Biblioteca. The historic Biedermeier furniture and the original wooden parquet flooring give the old patrician house back its former splendour.

Discover the well-kept selection of books in various languages, which can be borrowed by our hotel guests during their stay. Make yourself comfortable in one of the armchairs and dive into the world of books. Books and illustrated books about Sils and the Engadine await you, as well as thrillers, novels and historical topics.

Arch cellar

The time-honoured vaulted cellar was restored with much love for the history of the Parkhotel Margna and returned to its original state. This has become the arch cellar, a cosy place for social occasions.

The pitch & putt facility with driving range is perfect for both non-golfers and future golfers who want to get to know the game free from any inhibitions. Pitch & putt essentially means what it says in the title; lessons can also be taken with a golf pro booked through the hotel.

Short games played on the newly designed 4-hole course also challenge experienced golfers who want to improve their game during the holidays.

The strokes must be true, because distances of 81 to 159 m to the green and cleverly-positioned obstacles leave no room for rogue shots. Hotel guests can use the golf course free of charge. We offer inexpensive season tickets and day tickets for local residents and second home-owners alike.

Swiss National Park
At the easternmost tip of Switzerland, the world is still as it was in the days of our great-grandparents. 170 km² of unspoiled countryside, untouched by human hand for almost 100 years.

In the Swiss National Park, humans are merely passive spectators – and the spectacle all the more thrilling as a result! Homo sapiens intervened actively just once in recent times: 105 years ago, to be precise, when nature lovers founded the first national park in central Europe, a milestone in the history of conservation.

Today, this magnificent reserve in the easternmost corner of Switzerland, with its 100 km of footpaths and nature trails, offers visitors of all ages the chance to witness pure wilderness in action.

Mountain bike routes
400 kilometres of pure cycling pleasure. Anyone looking for the most beautiful ascent, the most attractive trail or the most spectacular panorama will benefit from the experts’ insider tips.

Biking in the Engadin is an adventure both for ambitious and casual cyclists. Anyone setting off from Sils can soon enjoy the spectacular Alpine scenery of the Engadin.

Whether you prefer riding trails, paths or roads, Sils offers mountain bikers and cyclists a wide range of options. Not to mention a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Biking for explorers
Enjoy a unique bike trail high above Lake Sils. The Alpine Bike Route No. 1 crosses right through Switzerland. One part of the trail leads from Sils (behind the Furtschellas valley station) high up over the Alp Prasüra and Vanchera, briefly crossing the Fex Valley at Fex Platta, Petpreir and Ca d’Starnam, before leading back down towards Maloja.

Anyone wishing to see more can continue on the route to Lac da Cavloc before returning the same way. While the route is not too difficult, it is certainly not to be underestimated. The views of Lake Sils are spectacular.

Water sports
Kiting, surfing, sailing. The legendary Maloja wind makes it possible: the idyllic Silvaplanersee at 1800 metres has been a cult in the windsurfing and kitesurfing scene since kitesurfing pioneer Stefan Popprath set up his base here.

Lake Sils, the largest of the Engadin lakes, and Lake Silvaplana are an insider tip for water sports fans. This is precisely why the lakes are so special for sailors, canoeists, anglers, divers, SUPers, windsurfers and kitesurfers.

Sailing
Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana are an extremely attractive sailing area due to their size and reliable wind conditions. Even if the weather happens to be bad and the Maloja wind stops blowing, there is still a pleasant, but strong northerly wind. Both for serious sailors and beginners alike, sailing on the two Engadin lakes is a unique experience.

Windsurfing
The dependable Maloja wind is what makes windsurfing so popular in the Engadin, providing perfect surfing conditions every day. The surfing Mecca is not far away from Sils, at Lake Silvaplana in Silvaplana. However, at the Beach Club in Sils on the north side of Lake Silvaplana, there is also a surf centre with lake access.

Kiting
Anyone who wants to go kiting in the Engadin can do so on Lake Silvaplana. The kite scene meets up at Lake Silvaplana in Silvaplana. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch this colourful spectacle.

Windsurfing on Lake Silvaplana
Fancy exploring Lake Sils and its islands by canoe, pedalo or rowing boat? While doing so, you’ll witness the astonishing Engadin light and the changing moods. This is an experience you won’t forget in a hurry. You can rent rowing boats and pedalos in the harbour at Plaun da Lej.

Stand up paddling, SUP
The conditions on Lake Sils and lake Silvaplana are excellent for stand up padding excursions. Early in the morning this is an idyllic and memorable experience.

Diving
Lake Sils is a high-alpine diving paradise, both in summer and winter. Diving in the frozen lake is an extra special experience. The interplay of light below the 70 cm thick ice is simply breathtaking.

The Cristallina Hotel in Plaun da Lej has its own filling station (Bauer compressor). In the hotel’s cellar, there is also a drying room for wet clothes and shoes.

Fishing
The Engadin lakes are well-known for their abundance of fish, including char, trout and lake trout. In the Plaun da Lej resort, you will find all the fishing supplies you need: boats, fish boxes, freezers, vacuum packing machines, fishing tackle as well as expert advice.

“Petri Heil”, or good fishing, as the locals would say! Our Sils tourist information office can provide you with information on fishing permits.

Climbing and mountaineering
Engadin St. Moritz is a paradise for both seasoned Alpinists and those with a little less experience under their belts. As soon as winter is over, the summer climbing season starts. There are numerous three-thousand-metre peaks to choose from.

Climbing and mountaineering in the Engadin is threefold. First, the routes are versatile and varied, and they offer unforgettable experiences for all skill levels.

Second, whether on a granite wall, ice pyramid, via ferrata, or boulder rock, you will find all the challenges an alpinist could desire. Third, no matter where you are climbing, you are surrounded by the exquisite beauty of the nature of the Engadin.

The majestic mountain world of the Engadin with its many three-thousand-meter peaks and the only four-thousand-meter peak in the Eastern Alps, Piz Bernina, offers top-class summit experiences.

In addition to impressive tours to the incomparable mountain peaks, mountaineers and climbers will find many other challenges that make an alpinist’s heart beat faster.

Experienced as well as less experienced mountaineers will get their money’s worth, and we invite you to discover the wide range of exciting, comfortable, easy, and tricky routes directly on the rock, on via ferratas, or on the eternal ice.

Winter sport

Those mountains! No wonder winter sport was invented here. The sun-drenched Upper Engadine is the largest winter sport region in Switzerland. No skier or snowboarder could possibly be blasé about 88 different runs!

The free local bus can take you to the valley station of the Furtschellasbahn cable car in just under 10 minutes. Or join the cross-country ski trail network straight from the hotel and experience an alpine plateau that truly is one of a kind.

It goes without saying that the Engadine is a hikers’ paradise, and not just in summer. Immerse yourself in the snow-covered winter forests of the Upper Engadine. Cross-country skiers appreciate our heated ski and waxing room and are able to join the network of Engadin Skimarathon trails right from the hotel.

A free local bus can take downhill skiers to the valley station of the Furtschellas/Corvatsch ski resort in a just a few minutes. The St. Moritz/Corviglia and Diavolezza/Lagalb resorts are also just a stone’s throw away.

Cross-country skiing
Enjoy as much cross-country skiing as you like in a unique landscape with over 220 kilometres of trails. It’s no surprise that around 13,000 cross-country skiing enthusiasts make the pilgrimage to this southern high valley in the Alps each year to take part in the world-famous Engadin Skimarathon.

A total of 230 glorious kilometres of top-quality trails with unrivalled scenic diversity, guaranteed snow and legendary conditions: cross-country ski enthusiasts from all over the world find their very own dream trails here. No doubt about it: in the Engadin, you are always on the right track!

The cross-country skiing network in the Upper Engadin is the largest in Switzerland, and in terms of scenery, we can also count it among the most beautiful.

Whether over the frozen lakes, through snow-covered forests, or into dreamy side valleys – cross-country skiing enthusiasts will find what they are looking for: Top slope quality, guaranteed snow, diverse topography, and rich scenery.

The only downside is that it’s impossible to explore it all the first time. So don’t worry if you, too, become a repeat offender in terms of cross-country skiing in the Engadin.

Ski & Snowboard
The four large ski resorts of Corviglia/Piz Nair, Corvatsch, Diavolezza/Lagalb and Zuoz, along with five others, offer winter sport enthusiasts a total of 350 km of slopes. Thanks to its altitude and modern snow-making systems, Engadin St. Moritz is a very reliable ski resort in terms of snow.

If the words “In my life, it’s always downhill …” only trigger positive feelings for you, because you associate them with magnificent descents and dreamlike pistes, then the Engadin will delight you! Perfect ski holidays are guaranteed here, where approximately 350 kilometers on 88 slopes in 9 snow-sure ski resorts await you.

Corviglia, Corvatsch/Furtschellas, and Diavolezza/Lagalb are our three major and well-known ski areas. But the smaller ones are in no way inferior to them. Their charm has already captivated many a skier. It all depends on what you are looking for. We are convinced you will find the right one for you.

Snowshoe tours
There’s a special charm attached to exploring untouched forests and snow-covered plains with snowshoes on your feet. The perfect change for those looking for peace and relaxation far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

If you really want to make your own way through the snow, grab a pair of snowshoes and enjoy a completely different experience than winter hiking on groomed trails. It is physically more demanding but provides a more intense experience of nature.

The Engadin offers a number of marked snowshoe trails for this purpose. From short routes for beginners and families to a more challenging tour for more ambitious explorers.

Muottas Muragl: where sledders, winter hikers, snowshoe hikers, excursionists, and general snow lovers come together. And the mountain offers everyone just what they are looking for.

For a snowshoe hiker, there is a three-kilometer circular trail that offers the best views of the frozen lakes and the Bernina Range. Muottas Muragl lives up to its reputation as the most beautiful panoramic mountain in the Engadin, even at night.

If you have the opportunity, you should therefore go on a snowshoe tour during the full moon. The Pontresina Mountaineering School offers four guided tours between December and March. And during a full moon or otherwise – the best way to end the evening is at the Romantikhotel Muottas Muragl.

Equestrian sport
Engadin St. Moritz offers a wide range of enchanting bridleways and professional stables, whether for experienced riders with or without their own horse, amateur riders, or guests who simply want to experience the valley by “getting on their high horse”.

Ice sports
In winter, there is an ice rink in every village for curling, ice hockey, Bavarian curling and ice skating. Ice skating rinks are free. Curling and ice hockey pitches can be hired (please book!). Many ice rinks are also open in the evening.

The Muot Marias ice rink and sports centre is the perfect starting point and meeting point for sports and snow enthusiasts – for ice skating, curling, hockey or cross-country skiing. It is located in the village centre of Sils Maria. With its “Kinderland” play area, it is also a children’s winter paradise.

Large winter play area
In the heart of the traffic-free village, the ice rink and sports centre provides a winter «Kinderland» play area, where youngsters can have fun. Tobogganing, skiing, building snow castles – anything is possible here.

The «Snowlino-Kindergarten», which is run by the Swiss Ski School in Sils, offers beginner ski courses for children. (Duration 1.5 hours, from 3 to 4 years, Monday to Friday and in high season daily from 10.30am to 12.00 noon).

Discover the Engadine

Enjoy the beauty of the lake plateau at 1,800 metres and the unspoilt landscape with some 800 km of bike routes and 1,500 km of hiking trails.

Savour the thought of coming across unmistakable Romansh mountain villages, of making excursions into the Swiss National Park and of taking selected tours of the region’s landscape and culture. In summer, the region’s beautiful lakes teem with water sports enthusiasts and those looking for relaxation.

In winter – when a thick layer of ice covers the lakes – they attract walkers, cross-country skiers and snow kiters. A wonderful hustle and bustle full of colour!

Nature in its purest form
In the Upper Engadine, all you have to do is hold out your hand: happiness is within your grasp. The lake plateau glistens in the afternoon light and the stone pine forests smell of fresh resin while in the villages the Engadine houses raise their striking faces to the sun.

Cultural walks
With its abundance of extraordinary buildings and places of interest, the Engadine can be seen as one large museum. These places of interest can be combined with beautiful walks to allow you to clear your head a little between the individual locales and enjoy the wonderful landscape.

With its wealth of exceptional buildings and sights, the Engadin feels like one large museum. Visitors can link the different attractions via leisurely walks: a delightful combination of art, culture, magnificent scenery and fresh mountain air.

Large roofs, massive stone walls and ornate “sgraffito” decoration are the hallmarks of traditional old houses in the Engadin: the style is distinctive and unmistakable. Each house offers enough space under one roof for a stable, hayloft and storeroom as well as bedrooms and living areas.

The heart of the house is the “Stüva”, a living room usually panelled in Swiss stone pine and often located directly above the stable, to take advantage of the animals’ body heat.

The facades of the houses often feature delicate drawings and patterns. These decorations are made using the sgraffito technique, whereby the shapes and figures are scratched into the plaster while still wet.

These traditional and picturesque Engadin houses can still be found throughout the region, making for villages of great charm. The best way to explore them is on a stroll through the narrow alleys, keeping an eye out for the many ornate details that adorn the historical facades.

Art & Culture
You will find the very finest culture here in the mountains and valleys. The unique architecture exerts a fascination every bit as great as the excellent museums and world-renowned galleries, to say nothing of the tightly-packed concert and events calendar.

Museums in the Engadin
An impressive number of museums in the Upper Engadin explore the region’s past and follow the trail of famous writers and artists: for example, the Nietzsche House in Sils and the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz.

Also worth visiting is the Mili Weber-House and the Engadiner Museum and the Berry Museum in St. Moritz, the museum Alpin in Pontresina, the Andrea Robbi Museum in Sils Maria and the Caferama Coffee Museum in Zuoz.
