Enter our world of elegant heritage! At the heart of our 4-stars-superior hotel lies the historical main building, which dates back to 1605. During the Art Nouveau period Posthotel Kassl was a retreat for King Ludwig of Bavaria and a regular summer meeting place for prominent guests from nobility, culture and politics.

Even the Trapp family resided with us. Today Posthotel Kassl, which has been run by our family for many generations, is a majestic retreat for guests from all over the world. Our individually furbished rooms offer modern comforts with a royal flair.

They are furnished with the finest wood from the Austrian stone pine, the “Queen of the Alps”. Her wonderful pine scent will lull you into a serene sleep. To help you recharge during your holiday.

Today, Posthotel Kassl is a four-star superior spa hotel offering a comprehensive wellness and spa programme. Our spa, our in-and outdoor pool and our massage treatments provide soothing heat and relaxation to our guests. Healthy drinks and predominantly organic culinary treats rich in vitamins and nutrients complement our spa programme.

What once started out as a postal station then became a place where the aristocracy went to stay and finally a 4-star-superior hotel. The building has changed so much over the years but one thing remains the same: family.

For generations, we have been striving to make the best time of the year even better for our guests. We are constantly seeking to pinpoint the requirements of our guests so that we can target and met them.

Tradition is not about staying still; on the contrary, it means moving with the times, being consistent and continuing traditions throughout the years. Every corner of the building features a sign and sense of the spirit of the day which changes with every brick and hopefully will continue to change in the future too.

As a family, we stick together and are 100% behind the business as well as working behind the counter, reception and scenes. Everyone does what they do best and are committed to their tasks. It is our role to boost the local economy, appreciate our region and remember that good things are close at hand.

ROOMS & SUITES
Our stone pine rooms and suites have names like “Wellness”, “Unter dem Türmchen” (Under the little tower), “Piburger See” and “Panorama”, rightfully promising romantic peace and relaxation as well as wonderful views of the Ötztal Mountains. Furnished with untreated stone pine wood and larch wood floors, many of our rooms are allergy-friendly. Some of our rooms are also wheelchair accessible.

DINING
Regional, authentically Tyrolean, honest, fresh, down-to-earth, traditional – Our motto: back to our roots, valuing our homeland and understanding that good things are close at hand. Boosting the region and celebrating farming are a BIG priority for us! It is an absolute joy to serve an excellent selection of traditional and down-to-earth dishes, whether to our fellow Tyroleans or tointernational guests.

Meat? Yes please but only the very best quality, from the region or directly from the farmer. Our menus feature various dishes from fillet to offal. Dishes which draw on the original substance of Tyrol yet at the same time ensure ‘zero waste cooking’.

Being traditional is not about standing still. Our chef Klaus always looks beyond the boundaries of Tyrol and cooks up vegetarian dishes as well as international delights. You can find a wine to complement your dish on our wine list which features a selection of Austrian wines as well as some international greats.

Our restaurant offers plenty of room, with 70 seats in the restaurant and cafe, 20 seats in the Ötzaler Stüberl, 30 seats in the Tiroler Stube and 120 seats in our dining hall, which will accommodate large groups. Come and celebrate your events in style.

EVENTS
Posthotel Kassl looks back on an over 400-year history. Historical rooms at our hotel like the stone pine “Stuben” rooms and the hotel bar convey an air of the 1900’s charm. Our historical stone pine “Stuben” rooms and Belle Époque bar provide the privacy and beautiful atmosphere you will want for your event. But we also have bigger facilities for larger celebrations.

Our restaurant offers plenty of room, with 70 seats in the restaurant & cafe, 20 seats in the Ötzaler Stüberl, 30 seats in the Tiroler Stube and 120 seats in our dining hall, which will accommodate large groups.

SPA & WELLNESS
Tyrol has a long tradition of spa retreats. At Kassl, we started pampering our guests with warm baths in the 19th century. The tubs were filled with running water from the fountains that were installed on every floor.

Today, Posthotel Kassl is a four-star-superior spa hotel offering a comprehensive wellness and spa programme. Our spa, our in- and outdoor pool and our massage treatments provide soothing heat and relaxation to our guests.

Healthy drinks and predominantly organic culinary treats rich in vitamins and nutrients complement our spa programme. Please note that our spa is for adults only. Children and teenagers under 15 are only permitted in the pool area.

INDOOR & OUTDOOR POOL
Simply magnificent: the 17m indoor pool and heated outdoor pool make swimming and relaxation a joy in any weather. Massage and floor jets make this the perfect place for enjoyment and relaxation. Unique views of the Acherkogel enhance the relaxation effect.

BATHING CULTURE
Our spa is located in the oldest part of our building. There couldn’t be a more suiting place for celebrating the old traditions of sauna and spa.We have a brine steam bath, an aroma steam room, a Finnish sauna, a Tyrolean herbal sauna, an infrared therapy sauna, a tropical rain and cool mist shower, a Tepidarium (Roman bath), heat loungers, a plunge pool, alternating hot & cold foot reflexology baths, a juice and fruit bar and a snugly sofa corner.

We have recently introduced another highlight to our spa, our “Peace and Quiet” relaxation room with relaxation loungers, pods for two, comfy bean bag chairs, a rattan hanging chair and heated water beds.

TYROLEAN HERBAL SAUNA (55°C/131°F)
At our herbal sauna we perform a special “Aufguss” ritual with fresh wildflowers or lavender. After a 10-15- minute sauna session, you will feel your respiratory system opening up. Our herbal sauna also promotes regeneration.

FINNISH SAUNA (90°C/194°F)
The low humidity in a Finnish sauna makes the high temperature very agreeable. Benefits: Strengthens the immune system, detoxifies, relieves pain by increasing blood circulation, balances and harmonises the psyche, activates your metabolism and relaxes your muscles.

BRINE STEAM BATH (45°C/113°F)
The brine contained in the steam positively affects your respiratory system and skin. The fragrant oils stimulate your senses and are very calming and relaxing. Benefits: Highly relaxing, boosts blood circulation and cell metabolism, relaxes muscles and joints, revitalizes and cleanses the skin.

AROMA STEAM BATH (40°C/104°F)
The aroma steam bath works similarly to the brine steam bath. The high humidity and gentle heat have a highly beneficial effect on your skin and respiratory system. In addition, each aroma has a specific positive effect.

INFRARED SAUNA
The infrared sauna is a unique combination of low-temperature infrared technology and lava-sand technology. The healthy deep heat of this sauna experience penetrates your body at a relatively low temperature of 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) without putting any strain on your cardiovascular system.

TEPIDARIUM – ROMAN BATH (37°C/99°F)
The temperature in a Tepidarium is set just a little above room temperature. This enhances blood circulation in the tissue and facilitates relaxation. Tepidariums can help cure vascular diseases, minor infections such as colds and coughs without fever, rheumatism and metabolic disorders.

FOOT REFLEXOLOGY BATHS
Alternating hot and cold foot baths in line with the Kneipp tradition help with bronchitis and inflammation of the throat. They should be applied to fight off a cold right when it is coming on. Footbaths are also beneficial for asthmatic disorders and most rheumatic diseases and angiospasm and have a reflexology effect on abdominal organs.

ROOM OF SILENCE
Our wellness area with a huge and beautiful relaxation room. All our water beds and different deck chairs are waiting for you! Just lean back and enjoy the silence.

SOOTHING MASSAGES
Many guests consider this the highlight of their spa retreat: a soothing massage with fragrant oils applied by well-trained hands in an atmosphere of blissful relaxation and wellbeing. Worth noting: A professional massage achieves much more than “just” putting you in a state of relaxation. Massages boost your blood circulation, relieve pain and promote natural healing.

We offer a wide array of health-promoting massage treatments ranging from traditional Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, foot reflexology massage, our special Kassl massage and other therapeutic treatments.

HOT STONE MASSAGE
Look forward to a ritual made up of massage, energy work and the soothing effect of warm lava stones, which has its origin in Hawaii. The body is massaged in a pleasant rhythm, relaxing the muscles and recharging the entire organism with new energy.

EAR CANDLING
This special technique first originated from the Native American, works like an eardrum massage and is used to cleanse the spirit. Combined with a lymphatic drainage on the upper part of the body, the massage can promise an alleviation of pain for headache and earache and can work against sleep disorder and depression.

SPORTS MASSAGE
After a sporty day, this massage stimulates the blood circulation and helps to prevent and alleviate aching muscles. By a vigorously massage any muscular tension will be dissolved.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
Electric bikes are a fantastic way to explore the mountainous Ötztal bicycle trails and forest roads on two wheels. Charging stations and electric bikes for hire can be found throughout the Ötztal Valley. Bicycles and mountain bikes are available free of charge to guests at Posthotel Kassl. We also provide maps and ideas on where to go. Just hop on your bike and start off straight from our hotel.

ROCK CLIMBING & MOUNTAINEERING
250 peaks over 3,000 metres (9,843 ft.) line the Ötztal Valley. Among them is the highest mountain of Tyrol, the Wildspitze Mountain (3,774 m / 12,382 ft.). There has always been an eagerness to climb all these peaks in Tyrol. That is why the Ötztal has developed into a paradise for mountaineering and climbing enthusiasts with eight via ferratas (fixed-rope climbing routes) and twenty sport climbing crags.

One of them is located directly in Oetz. The Ötztal Valley boasts a total of 750 climbing routes and numerous multi-pitch routes. In the event of bad weather, climbers can resort to the Area 47 adventure park or the climbing gym in Imst. For high alpine hikes we recommend booking a local guide from Ötztal

VIA FERRATA
This via ferrata (fixed-rope climbing route) of medium difficulty (B) takes you up 1,300 feet. A rope bridge and the breath-taking view of the Inn Valley turn this via ferrata into a unique experience. Thanks to its sunny location, it is accessible almost all year round.

TOP OF TYROL
Awe-inspiring glaciers, colorful larch forests and idyllic mountain lakes – these are just a few of the many impressions that we all associate with the Ötztal: at the same time it is a landscape worth protecting that attracts myriad visitors from around the globe.

As Austria’s third largest nature preserve, the ÖTZTAL NATURE PARK covers an area of more than 510 square kilometers – there is no other protected area which has a larger glacier-covered surface (about 18%) in all of Austria. Among the characteristics are large glacier fields, natural history studies and research on high Alpine archeology.

Additionally, the ÖTZTAL NATURE PARK has a lot to offer to all guests: visitors can choose from up to 18 theme hikes per week, over 15 events and lectures on current nature topics and a fun-packed child activity program.

SWIMMING ADVENTURES
A day of swimming sounds boring? Not at Lake Piburg in Oetz! This natural gem is embedded in a nature reserve and is one of the warmest swimming lakes in Tyrol with a water temperature of about 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit).

A day at Lake Piburg can be combined with an outing to the nearby Wellerbrücke Bridge and the Achstürze Falls. We also recommend renting one of the rowing boats for an idyllic ride on this magnificent mountain lake.

WATER, ROCKS, HEIGHTS & FLIGHTS
The Ötztal Valley not only stands for serenity and magical moments in nature. We also cater to adrenaline junkies with rafting, canyoning or kayaking on the Ötztaler Ache River. If this sounds a little too wet, you might prefer to get your kick at the professional high ropes courses in Sautens and Längenfeld. If you’ve always wanted to fly, you can make your dream come true on one of the zip lines or with tandem paragliding.

AREA 47
Area 47, the ultimate outdoor park located five minutes from Oetz at the entrance to the Ötztal Valley is action-packed. Water, rock and off-road adventures are part of the action agenda. One day will hardly be enough to experience the entire place.

SIGHTS & OUTINGS
Some of the historic vestiges that can be found in Ötztal date back as far as the 8 th millennium B.C. Archaeologists from the University of Innsbruck have confirmed that the “Hohle Stein” rock in Vent was used as a shelter by hunters in the Stone Age.

Our hotel in Oetz is a distinctive part of the history of the Ötztal Valley as well. The historic building with its turret is a masterpiece of architecture. The Art Nouveau elements decorating the interior of our hotel convey an air of bygone days.

The Rofenhöfe farmhouses in Vent, the Turmmuseum in Oetz and the Heimatmuseum (heritage museum) in Längenfeld illustrate how people used to live in Ötztal. Innsbruck, the capitol of Tyrol, is only a 45-minute drive from Oetz. The Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens are an extra twenty minutes.

Some of the most impressive highlights in the Ötztal outdoors are: the Stuibenfall waterfall in Umhausen, which is the longest waterfall in Tyrol, the Rotes Wandl lookout point on the Acherkogel Mountain, the Seejöchl and Kanzel lookout points on Lake Piburg and the Ebele plateau in Oetz. If you are enticed to go even higher, you should visit the Top Mountain Star at the end of the Ötztal Valley or the Hohe Mut Mountain Inn.

WIDI MASCOT
Wherever Widi is, there is fun. Widi is the Ötztal Tourism mascot. He “accompanies” families on the themed walks near Oetz. He is also at the Widiversum in Hochoetz, where children can hunt for a magic crystal. Widi’s Kids Club offers child supervision and a fun activity program.

Other exciting places and activities for children in Ötztal are: the Kids Park adventure playground in Oetz, numerous playgrounds in Ötztal, a petting zoo, Lake Piburg, fishing, rafting, the Oetzi Village in Umhausen and various historic places to discover.

WINTER HOLIDAY
Winter in Ötztal is like the Snow Queen. It has many faces. It can be perfectly quiet, like an idyllic snowshoeing or cross-country skiing trek through winter wonderland. It can bring on romance and a special kind of magic on a floodlit sledging track or the natural ice-skating rink on Lake Piburg.

And then there’s après-ski, of course. You can opt for the romantic mountain hut version, the classic après ski party or some pub and bar hopping in town. Whatever you decide on, we will provide the well-deserved peace and relaxation for you to recuperate once you return to Posthotel Kassl.

SKIING
The Ötztal Valley is by all means a winter destination of superlatives. The Hochoetz, Kühtai, Sölden and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resorts boast a total of over 250 miles of ski slopes. The two glaciers in Ötztal, Tiefenbach and Rettenbach, guarantee snow even in the early months of winter.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, an on- or off-piste skier or a family travelling with children, we will give you a warm welcome back to our hotel at the end of the day for a soak in our in- & Outdoor Pool or a massage in our Posthotel Kassl spa.

This ski resort at the beginning of the Ötztal Valley offers everything you need for a successful ski holiday in Ötztal in an intimate atmosphere. More than 50 miles of groomed slopes and 24 lifts guarantee plenty of ski excitement all winter.

SKI SCHOOL
Young and old, beginners and experts… Anybody who would like to learn how to ski or bring their skiing to perfection will be well trained at the ski schools in Oetz-Hochoetz. Children will be taught professionally how to ski in fun children’s ski courses. Widi the mascot and the Bobo Kids Club will entertain the children off the slopes.

WINTER HIKING
Taking in the crisp air and the snow-capped mountain scenery on a winter hike is a wonderfully simple way to experience the beauty of winter. All you need to venture out onto the quiet trails of the Ötztal Valley is a good pair of boots and weather-proof gear.

Hiking poles and backpacks are available free of charge at our hotel. The Ötztal Valley boasts a well-marked network of trails with over 115 miles of hiking from Haiming to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl and Vent.

From mid-December through end-March a nature reserve guide takes hikers through the conservation area from the Achstürze Falls to Lake Piburg. Thiscrunchy winter treat is available once a week right at the doorstep of Posthotel Kassl. So if you enjoy hiking, don’t miss out on this experience!

SKI TOURING
Ski touring, snowshoeing and winter hiking offer a real alternative for those seeking to experience serene nature off the groomed slopes. No matter how well prepared a ski run is, it can never compete with untouched virgin snow.

To ensure that your ski touring trip will turn into a fun and safe experience, you should definitely take into account the avalanche danger when planning your trek. Booking a certified mountain and ski touring guide will increase your safety on the mountain.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Cross-country skiing is one of the oldest and healthiest kinds of sports worldwide. The intense workout paired with the fresh mountain air and the stunning Ötztal scenery will reinvigorate your body, mind and soul. An “after workout” soak in our Kassl spa will reward you for your efforts and complete your active day with some well-deserved relaxing time.

The Ötztal Valley offers a total of 120 miles of perfectly groomed beginner and expert trails for both classic and skate skiing. The 1.9-mile loop in our neighbouring village of Ochsengarten is a particularly snow-sure area thanks to its location on an altitude of 1,570 metres (5151 ft.).

SLEDGING
There is more to winter than just skiing. Sledging has always been a popular sport in Ötztal. The Luge World Cup is held in Ötztal frequently. The most modern luge track in all of Tyrol, the Grantau track in Umhausen, is also accessible to amateurs.

Experience winter from its romantic side on one of the well-groomed sledging tracks near Oetz. The villages of Ochsengarten, Kühtai, Sautens, Niederthai, Umhausen, Längenfeld, Gries, Sölden, Vent and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl all have their own track.

The one closest to our hotel is the 0.8-mile run in Oetz-Piburg, which is floodlit every night. If you prefer a more challenging run, you should opt for the 1.4-mile track from Ochsengarten to the Feldringalm Mountain Inn.

ICE SKATING
Ice-skating with children is always lots of fun. Ice-skating in the natural ice arena of Lake Piburg is a unique and impressive experience – not just for little ice princesses but also for adults. The minimum thickness of the ice is checked regularly to ensure safety. The rink is 1.2 miles long and 2.5 miles wide. Skating on the lake is free.

FISHING
There is a saying among fishermen: “Fishing is the most unsuspicious way of doing nothing.” Well, why not? After all you’ll be on holiday here in Ötztal. Fishing is a perfect retreat from everyday life. It is a fantastic way to enjoy and take in Mother Nature.

Posthotel Kassl owns some fishing grounds on the Ötztaler Ache and on the Nederbach, two very different and exciting private waters. In the summer months there is also rainbow trout fishing on Lake Habich. An ideal place for a day of family fishing. Please note that fishing permissions can be purchased only in conjunction with a minimum stay of 3 nights at the Posthotel Kassl.

ÖTZTALER ACHE
Fishing on the Ötztaler Ache River is possible on a total stretch of over nine miles: In Tumpen from the left side of the river (next to the street) and between Habichen (gorge) and Sautens on both sides of the river for 3.7 miles.

UNTERER NEDERBACH
The lower part of the Nederbach River is a small wild mountain river that winds through the Nedertal Valley from Ochsengarten to Ötzerau. It provides romantic scenery and fantastic family picnic spots.

OBERERE NEDERBACH
The upper part of the Nederbach River is a small wild mountain river that winds through the Nedertal Valley from Ochsengarten to Kühtai. The Oberer Nederbach is as romantic as the Unterer Nederbach, but it is much slower and runs through beautiful alpine pastures.

There is less growth on the river, so this is a fantastic place for fly-fishing, especially in summer. The majestic nature that surrounds the river is also highly satisfying for non-fishing companions.

HABICHER SEE
The Habichersee is 2 kilometer away from our hotel in Habichen. At the edge of the forest. A beautiful landscape. Quiet location. Ideal for fly fishing or holidays with children.
