Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa was the very first chapter of the Alexander Hotels story. Starting its life with us as our first Utopia Spa with just a few bedrooms above, Rowhill Grange’s history dates back to 1868 when Alice Alexander’s family built her a summer house.
Alice and her family lived in that summer house until 1916 when Sir George Cole (Lord Mayor of London and a keen breeder of Shetland Ponies) bought the property.
Cole lived in the property for twelve years before selling it to Leslie and Lucy Waites who transformed the property into a family home with a beautiful garden – laying the foundations of what you can see here today.
It was, in fact, their gardener who planted the spruce tree which stands opposite the entrance to Rowhill Grange to this day. Rowhill Grange began its journey to becoming a hotel in 1977 when Michael Feasey, a local butcher, transformed the family home into a country house hotel and restaurant which then opened in 1987.
Seven years later, we joined the party. In 1994 we bought the property, renovated the hotel and began work on our first ever Utopia Spa. After more than two decades of love, renovation, refurbishment and expansion, we have the 4 silver star hotel with award-winning restaurant and Utopia Spa that you see today.

For the ultimate indulgence
Our suites are arranged across the Main House and the Clockhouse, from our Junior Suites to Master Suites. Decorated individually, each of our suites has something special and unique to offer.
Slip into our tub for two in the Groombridge Master Suite or snuggle down for a cosy movie night in one of our Junior Suites – all of which have spacious lounge zones. Each of suites have separate walk in drench showers and lovely deep tubs for a long soak.
Master Suites
We have two Master Suites here at Rowhill Grange. For a classic and elegant experience, indulge in a stay in Groombridge Suite. The luxurious bathroom takes grandeur to a new level with captivating mood lighting, an oversized bathtub (perfect for two), twin stone vanity unit, and a large walk-in rain shower.
Our second Master Suite, the Mulberry Suite, is found in the main house of the hotel. This Suite is full of natural light, and is home to opulent decor.
Traditional Suite
Our Traditional Suite, ‘Rose’, is decorated in rich reds and teals, with sensual textures and velvet used throughout.
In the bedroom, you will find antique walnut furniture, a gloriously comfy bed with our very instagram-worthy monogrammed cushions, and our luxurious bathroom with a super-spacious shower made for two. In the separate sitting room, you will find a lounge and dining area, perfect for pre-dinner drinks and relaxing.
Junior Suites
Luxurious, spacious and modern, each of our Junior Suites has a unique layout and individual interior design. From fiery tones to modern muted palettes, each Suite is inspired by nature and designed to add a touch of romance to your stay.

Rowhill Grange is THE go-to for laid back luxury dining in Kent. We are home to the 2-AA rosette awarded ‘RG’s’ Restaurant, Grill & Terrace, the very chilled out ‘Elements’ spa bar & lounge, our private dining rooms in the Main House and the event and party spaces in the Pavilion and Clockhouse.
Overseen by Head Chef Oliver Joyce, our cuisine uses the finest local, seasonal produce from the Garden of England. Al Fresco Dining
‘RG’s’ is the gastronomic heart of our boutique hotel. By day it is a light, airy space full of the sound of clinking glasses and laughter, and by night, it becomes cosy and intimate by the flicker of candlelight, with the scent of the grill in the air.
Wrapping around the main dining room are several private dining rooms which can be hired exclusively, including ‘The Orangery’, ‘The Snug’ and ‘The Drawing Room’. In the summer months, RG’s spills out on the sun-drenched terrace, offering al fresco dining in our very own ‘Costa del Kent’!
The menus are designed by our fabulous Head Chef Oliver Joyce and his Brigade. Using the finest local ingredients and cooking with the seasons, you will discover hearty, familiar favourites like our famous grills and steaks, along with some more exotic and artistic compositions.
Meet the Chef – Oliver Joyce
Our Head Chef since June 2019, Oliver Joyce brings years of international and highly awarded experience to our Kitchen. Originally from the West of Ireland, Oliver went onto to study professional cookery in Germany before taking to the seas with Cunard, starting off as a pastry chef.
Throughout his career, his passion for patisserie can be seen as he rose through the ranks through such notable kitchens as our very own Alexander House, Eastwell Manor, the Michelin-starred Chapter One in Bromley before his final pastry-focussed role at the acclaimed Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath.
From here, he returned to Kent and London working from Sous Chef up to Head Chef, bringing with him a wealth of experience.

Wrapping around the main dining room of RG’s are our Private Dining Rooms, ideal for indulgent meals with friends and family. The largest of our spaces in the Main House can accommodate up to 24 guests, and all of our Private Dining Rooms serve dishes created for RG’s by Head Chef Oliver Joyce.

Afternoon Tea at Rowhill Grange
Delicate finger food with a touch of elegance. From delicious sandwiches on freshly baked bread to decadent macarons fresh from our pastry chefs, afternoon tea at Rowhill Grange is the ultimate quintessentially British experience.
Reserve your table for up to 2 hours and take afternoon tea at your leisure. You’ll be delighted to know that we have plenty of space for larger tables of five or six, just right for an intimate celebration.
Elements Bar & Lounge at Rowhill Grange
‘Elements’ is the bridge between Utopia Spa and the main hotel of Rowhill Grange, and so the chilled-out vibe that’s more country club than hotel bar is fitting.
By day, it’s a space where spa guests dine in their fluffy robes alongside our locals and resident guests, grabbing a gorgeous superfood salad or perhaps a naughty burger. You’ll find squidgy sofas to while away the afternoon, by the fire in the colder months, or in the summer on the adjacent terrace that’s a real sun-trap

Luxury Wedding & Barn Wedding Venue
The Clockhouse at Rowhill Grange is a fairy tale exclusive-use wedding venue. With a charming thatched roof, mullioned windows and dreamy white-washed wooden cladding, it is everything that a wedding in the countryside should be.
Inside The Clockhouse you will find our ‘barn-style’ suite, complete with a vaulted and beamed ceiling and all decorated in a subtle, neutral lime-washed palette. It is a light and airy space, ready to be filled with love and laughter and can hold 120 guests.
Adjacent to the main suite is our dedicated bar and there’s even an internal courtyard too. Your wedding at The Clockhouse will also include seven beautiful bedrooms plus the stunning duplex bridal suite, and use of our unique dressing room, The Thatchers.
Designed for the bridal party to prepare for the ceremony together in style, The Thatchers is a beautiful space with a make up and blow-dry bar and plenty of room to enjoy a glass of bubbles, share some last words of wisdom and a few happy tears.
