From a crafts workshop to one of the most beautiful art hotels in Europe. The history of the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel reads itself just like a fairy tale. In 1596 it was named the Imperial and Royal carpentry of Graz and the tradition of handicraft kept on for the next centuries.
A new chapter was opened in the 1960s as the traditional building was transformed into the “Gasthof Bierstrom”. A few pages later, from 1980 until 1982, the building was vastly remodeled and modernized and reopened as Schlossberghotel.
In the following years the hotels grows as two adjoining buildings are added. Another highlight in the story of the hotel was the construction of the new apartments in the Domenig-Spitz in 2011.
According to the quote of Jean Paul this would mean that the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel can be compared to a premium, extensively-equipped wine cellar. Exactly like that the art collection offers diversification and excitement on the highest level, numerous treasures and a lot of room for interpretation.
Because it is truly everything else but average what the “Artists in Action” create each year. As a limited edition and exclusively for the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel the artists let their creativity run free and individual highlights emerge.

In 49 rooms, 4 suites and 8 apartments original works of art and precious antiques meld together and create a unique ambience that invites to return.
APARTMENTS
To feel at home – this is especially true for the apartments of the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel. They promise a maximum of living quality for short as well as for long stays with the combination of contemporary art and luxurious functionality.
Situated in the Domenig-Spitz, which was created by the famous architecture Günther Domenig, the fully equipped apartments allow a generous and modern living.
EVENTS & MEETINGS
To make sure that this pleasure is achieved, the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel offers three different rooms for up to 60 persons for events and meetings.
Contemporary art and modern functionality create a special setting for individual events. The extraordinary premises, such as the romantic winter garden, the breathtaking roof terrace with a view of Graz or the elegant Schlossbergsaal leave no wishes unanswered.
ROOF TERRACE
One might think that the thought of Helmut Weyh was the guiding theme when the roof terrace was created, where art and nature are harmonically unified on different levels. If you let your gaze wander you can see the Unesco World Heritage Site that is the roof scape of the old town of Graz.
You can enjoy a lavish breakfast or drink a glass of wine while feeling the soft touches of the first or last rays of the sun or refresh yourself with a leap into our pool after a sunbath – pure pleasure.
THE BREAKFAST
The breakfast in the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel inspires not only because of its variety of regional and international specialities, but also because of the variety of breakfast-places.
In our lovely winter garden, in our cozy breakfast area, comfortably in your own room or at our spectacular roof terrace – welcome in the new day. We are happy to welcome external guests to our breakfast, but we ask for reservations in advance.
WELLNESS & FITNESS
In the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel this is even possible around the clock, as the whole leisure area with sauna, infrared-cabin and gym is open 24 hours for our guests. During the warm months the outdoor-pool on our roof terrace further allures and therefore nothing – but oneself – is in the way.
THE LOBBY
The Lobby- and Bar area is the heart of the Schlossberghotel – Das Kunsthotel and invites you to intensive meetings, stimulating discussions and humorous chats. A refreshing glass of wine, a steaming cup of coffee or a jovial Cognac inspire the hearts and the tongue.
