THE ISLAND
Sitting at the center of the beautiful Exuma chain made up of little, scattered islands, deserted beaches and sandbars is Fowl Cay Resort. A vacation on Fowl Cay is truly like no other… and there are barely words to describe it–other than this is a getaway you need to experience for yourself.

The best way to describe Fowl Cay Resort is that it is a casual vacation experience that combines the freedom of renting your very own island villa (or the entire island) with all the quality amenities of a full-service resort.

THE HISTORY
Once used by the local community as an island where they kept their chickens for food – hence the name Fowl Cay – Fowl Cay first became a vacation destination in the 50’s when a French couple bought the island and built their home away from home on the spot where the current Lindon Villa stands (again hence the name!).

​Over the years the island passed through two other families who established their home-away-from-home on Fowl Cay and subsequently enjoyed the beauty of the central Exumas with their families.

​Fowl Cay Resort was established as the first high-end luxury resort in the Exumas in March 2002. The current owners, The Stewarts, purchased Fowl Cay in 2007 and have been sharing this unique and special getaway with others ever since.

​Steeped in history, the Exumas was originally home to the native Lucayan Indians until the 1700’s when American Revolutionary war Loyalists settled and attempted to establish cotton plantations in the area.

To this day, Staniel Cay is one of the few permanent Bahamian Settlements in the entire Exuma Chain and one of the most popular spots for tourists and vacation homes.

​Local residents are known for their sailing prowess and the Patriarch of Staniel Cay – Rolle Grey, won the first ever National Family Island Regatta on his boat Tida Wave. Even more remarkable, he was at the finish line 50 years later and saw his resurrected boat go on to win the 50th Anniversary of the Regatta in 2004.

​The Exumas is also home to the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, the first park of its kind established in the world. It has been designated a No Take Zone in order to protect a safe breeding ground for the marine wildlife and fish that provides the local economy with its jobs and food.

GETTING TO FOWL CAY
There are many options for travel to our Exumas private resort. Scheduled flights, as well as private chartered flights, are available direct from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (1h 30 minutes) or Nassau, Bahamas (40 minutes) into Staniel Cay Airstrip.

Once on the ground at Staniel Cay Airstrip (a mere 1.25 miles from Fowl Cay), a member of our resort team will meet you personally, take care of your luggage and bring you to the dock, where you will be transferred by a breathtaking 7-minute boat ride to the Cay.

​Airport transfers for guests arriving from Staniel Cay Airstrip to Fowl Cay Resort are complimentary. You are also welcome to travel to Fowl Cay with your boat. Private planes may land at Staniel Cay’s 3,030 ft.-paved airstrip. You may also charter a seaplane to land near our resort.

THE VILLAS
Dotted around the Eastern perimeter of Fowl Cay are six gorgeous villas for you to use as your home away from home in the Exumas.

Our one, two and three-bedroom villas all have fully equipped kitchens that are stocked with breakfast, lunch and snack items before your arrival (all included in the price). All have ocean views and are lined with French or sliding glass doors that open to beautiful patios overlooking the breathtaking water below.

​In addition to your fully stocked kitchen, each villa includes your own personal motorboat (gas, too!), a golf cart and use of all the equipment on the island. The boat allows you get out and explore the beautiful central Exumas, while Fowl Cay provides the ultimate home base to return to at the end of the day.

You make your own breakfast, our chef makes you a picnic lunch to take on your boat, your villa host packs a cooler and brings you fresh clean towels, and you’re off for a day on the water!

When you return, jump in your luxurious shower and head up to the Hill House for cocktail hour and a gourmet dinner of local seafood and delicious desserts. It’s all there for you to enjoy and we are there to make it as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

BLUEMOON VILLA
Moon-gazing with family or friends doesn’t get any better than from the terrace of this stunning and spacious three-bedroom en-suite villa. Located on the small ridge overlooking the eastern end of the North Beach, Blue Moon boasts striking views from your open-plan kitchen and living area.

Have breakfast on your covered veranda surrounded by flowering Bouganvilla, or enjoy your lunch in the warm sun on your spacious patio overlooking the beautiful white sands of North Beach.

​A separate family room den with comfortable seating is the perfect chill-out zone after a busy day exploring the surrounding islands. Two of the king-sized bedrooms have ocean views and apart from distinguishing furnishings, Bluemoon is identical in design to Sweetwater Villa.

LINDON VILLA
Designed for honeymooners or as a romantic retreat for two, Lindon is spacious and located ideally on a low ridge above North Beach. Open-plan, bright, breezy and framed with large windows and glass doors, Lindon is a breath of fresh air.

The kitchen area features a welcoming breakfast bar, and the living-dining area is well-furnished with all the home creature comforts you’d expect.

​The large back terrace overlooks spectacular powder-white sands, the sand bars of Gaulin Cay and an unusual chain of limestone-coral cliffs across the bay. Tied to the trees, a hammock, will rock you to sleep or follow the wooden steps which lead down to your very own private shoreline.

SWEETWATER VILLA
Star-gazing with family or friends doesn’t get any better than from the terrace of this stunning and spacious three-bedroom en-suite villa. Located on the small ridge overlooking the western end of the North Beach, Sweetwater boasts striking views from your open-plan kitchen and living area.

Surrounded by flowering Bouganvilla, a covered and furnished veranda with a northerly breeze is a favorite dining spot for meal times and cocktails.

BIRDCAGE VILLA
Birdcage Villa boasts some of the island’s most magnificent panoramic views of neighboring cays and the beautiful Big Major Harbor.

Spread your wings in this spacious, open-plan two-bedroom abode featuring an impressive kitchen, breakfast bar, comfortable living room with fireplace, and dining area; Birdcage’s inviting covered porch is popular for afternoon lounging and is cooled by passing breezes.

In addition to the main hillside swimming pool, this two-story house has its own private fresh-water pool. French doors lead to furnished terraces, sun beds, and a barbeque area; while at the back, steps lead down to your villa’s beach and small dock – the perfect hideaway villa for family or friends.

Please note that Birdcage is a split-level unit with the guest bedroom on the ground floor below the master bedroom on the main floor. The staircase and access to the guest bedroom is outside the kitchen on the porch and should be considered when traveling with small children

STARLIGHT VILLA
This unique, tree house-style villa is located on a higher ridge to its neighboring twin villa, Seabreeze.

With cozy, rustic décor, decorative fireplaces and outdoor seating, it’s the perfect gathering place for evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a late game of pool and the local seafood and cuisine for miles around.

IN HOUSE DINING
Each villa has a fully equipped large kitchen, stocked refrigerator and pantry for you to prepare your breakfast in the comfort of your own private villa – we will ensure fresh pastries and fruit plates are delivered daily to your villa between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

For lunch, either make your own or have our chef pack you a gourmet picnic to take on your boat to a deserted island.

BOATS
Perhaps the biggest and best amenity at Fowl Cay is the 17 or 18 ft. powerboat with unlimited gas, which is included with your villa. Our staff will give you a thorough boat orientation to ensure you are comfortable driving the boat and we also provide you with charts and compasses.

FOOD & DRINKS
Everything you eat and drink while on the Cay is included in the price. All the food and beverages stocked in your villa in addition to dinner at the Hill House restaurant is included.* Your cupboards and fridge will be restocked at no extra charge.

GOLF CART

The Hill House not only provides the backdrop to our delicious nightly meals, but also provides a number of different amenities during the day. After a day on the boat, rinse off in our freshwater pool with double teak chaise lounges and umbrellas on the sun deck.

Or, wake up early for a morning workout in our exercise room. At cocktail hour, enjoy the various games in the pub – throw some darts, shoot some pool, play backgammon or challenge someone to the Bimini ring game as the sun sets on the back patio.

POOL
Our fresh water pool at the Hill House provides the perfect end to a day on the boat. Catch the last rays of the day after you rinse off in the pool.

Head into the bar and mix up a drink behind the bar or grab a beer out of the fridge and enjoy your drink while sitting by the pool. The bar is always open and it’s always our round! If you want your own private pool, consider renting the Birdcage villa which has its own private splash pool on its patio.

BEACHES
Bring your tennis game, but leave your big racquets at home. Fowl Cay has the only tennis court in this part of the Exumas. Located in the middle of the island, it’s a perfect activity for when you need a break from the beach.

When you are finished with your tennis game, head down to South Beach for a popular happy hour activity – a game of bocce ball on our waterside court. And if you are in the mood, throw a few horseshoes in our sand horseshoe pit.

TENNIS & BOCCE COURTS
Bring your tennis game but leave your big racquets at home. In the middle of the island it’s a perfect activity for when you need a break from the beach. When you are finished with your tennis game, head down to South Beach for a game of bocce ball on our waterside court. A great sport for all ages and skill levels.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Fowl Cay is that island life may be too quiet for some. A remote piece of paradise surrounded by nothing but miles of clear water and sandy beaches – sounds idyllic, but what is there to do apart from soaking up the rays? Plenty!

​Each villa at Fowl Cay comes complete with its own powerboat giving you the freedom to explore paradise at your own pace. Fowl Cay is the perfect hub for daily mini adventures.

FISHING
Whether it’s Bone Fishing or trawling through the cuts for Snapper and Grouper, fishing in the Exumas is world-renowned.

DESERTED BEACHES
There are 365 cays and islands in the Exumas – a different one for each day of the week. While staying with us, you could picnic on a different deserted beach every day.

​EXPLORING
Take your boat to Compass Cay Marina and feed the sharks; enjoy a burger on the dock and play checkers with the locals; or head down to Guana Cay to feed the iguanas.

SNORKELLING
Nearby Thunderball Cave and Exuma Land and Sea Park are teaming with Sergeant Major, Parrot and Angel Fish. We will direct you to the top spots and supply your snorkeling equipment.

• Visit neighboring populated cays, Staniel or Black Point and stroll around meeting the locals. Enjoy an authentic meal at one of the local restaurants or pass by one of the island art galleries and pick up some paintings or woven items from local artists.
• There are also some great lunch spots at the local marinas: Sampson Cay, Compass Cay or Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Play a game of Bimini Ring under the giant Sea Grape tree at Sampson Cay while you wait for your Lobster Wrap to be prepared.
• Discover one of the two old sunken planes in the vicinity and snorkel for the treasure that went down with the plane, too!
• Waterski, Tube, Knee Board or Wake Board right off our dock on the flat waters in Big Major Harbor.
• Save your kitchen scraps from your villa (or ask the chef for some) and head over to Pig beach on Big Major Spot and feed the friendly swimming pigs that live there year–round.
• Head north to the Exuma Land and Sea Park headquarters where you can hike around the island and check out the whale skeleton on the beach.
• Head to Farmers Cay, a local community about 45 minutes to the south. On the way, try to find the cave by Oven Rock and leave time to find the spectacular and famous sand bar off Musha Cay – heaven on earth.

At 2,300 square miles in size, Andros Island is perhaps the largest tract of unexplored land in the Western hemisphere and the largest island in the Bahamas. Along the east coast are the fishing and diving grounds of the Andros Barrier Reef, and on the west coast are the pristine fishing flats of the Great Bahama Bank.

The island has a population of approximately 8,000 people, mostly residing in small towns along the eastern coast. The island itself is a great provider, with many occupations in fishing and farming. In addition, Androsians have long standing traditions in boat building, wood carving, sponging, and straw work.

SCUBA DIVING ON ANDROS ISLAND
Whether you’re a beginner who wants to try snorkeling for the first time or an experienced diver seeking a new thrill, our certified instructors and divemasters are ready to show you around an exciting underwater world. Small Hope’s Dive Center has been introducing guests to the Andros Barrier Reef since 1960.

With more than 60 nearby dive sites, including shipwrecks, shallow reefs, and breathtaking blue holes, guests can experience everything from stunning wall dives at the edge of the continental shelf to a dazzling variety of coral formations along the 124-mile Andros Barrier Reef, the third-largest barrier reef in the world.

DISCOVER SCUBA FOR FREE
This free resort course is designed for beginners who want to try scuba diving for the first time. Our experienced instructors will teach you to dive right off our dock, in water you can stand up in. Children under 10 can try SASY or Bubblemaker, a gentle introduction to surface and underwater swimming with an air supply.

A VARIETY OF DIVES
With dozens of dive sites within a 15-minute boat ride from our dock, it’s rare to dive the same site more than once during your stay. Our weekly scuba diving schedule includes colorful coral gardens, wrecks, reefs, walls, caverns, and open ocean blue holes, as well as a shark observation dive.

Our Dive Center offers PADI certification courses, including Open Water Diver, Adventure Diver, and Advanced Open Water Diver. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Remember to bring along a valid C-card if you plan on scuba diving while you’re here. We may also ask you to demonstrate your mask and regulator clearing skills, allowing you to get comfortable and adjust your buoyancy in the water.

SNORKELING IN THE BAHAMAS
Snorkeling is one of our favorite activities, whether it’s a boat ride to the captivating Andros Barrier Reef or a quick swim from the shore at Small Hope Bay. If you’ve never snorkeled before, don’t worry, we can show you how. If you can float and you like to have fun, you’ll love snorkeling.

In addition to our daily boat excursions to the reef, we have lots to see under the water right from the shore. Grab a mask and snorkel and jump off the dock—there you’ll see schools of grunts and snapper, lobster, octopus, and some of our friendly rays. You can snorkel at 6 different places all along our beach!

DAILY SNORKEL TRIPS TO THE REEF
In addition to daily excursions, snorkelers are welcome to come along to some of the shallow dive sites, including the Shark Observation Experience, where they can snorkel safely while watching local reef sharks gather to feed about 30 feet below.

SHARK DIVING
Divers and snorkelers can enjoy the thrill of a lifetime while learning about some of the most incredible creatures in the ocean. This afternoon excursion allows us to view sharks up close in their natural habitat. The shark encounter aims to raise awareness, preserve marine life, and recreate in a safe, responsible way!

SHARK FEEDING
Our shark encounters provide a small amount of supplemental food to the sharks on an irregular basis so that they are not dependent on us for food. As our boat approaches the site, Caribbean reef sharks begin to gather around. We then lower a chum ball composed of frozen fish parts 30 feet below the surface.

WHAT SHARKS WILL WE SEE?
Although the Shark Observation Experience primarily attracts Caribbean reef sharks, divers may also encounter nurse sharks, blacktip reef sharks, lemon sharks, silky sharks, and the occasional hammerhead. Shark feedings also attract a number of scavengers like barracuda, grouper, and snapper, who come to eat the leftovers.

Andros Island, with its 140-mile long reef and its extensive inland flats offers serious opportunities to spincasters and fly fishermen. Small Hope Bay Lodge has its own in-house guides and boats. We use a team of some of the best local guides to offer great Bahamas Bonefishing, Reef Fishing, and Deep Sea Fishing.

BONEFISHING IN THE BAHAMAS
What other sport combines the stealth of hunting, the planning of chess, and the exhilaration of fighting the strongest pound for pound fish in the world? The cast needs to be perfect, the bait needs to be convincing, the fly’s ‘behavior’ needs to be natural. Then, once the bait is taken, the strip needs to be long and slow.

Imagine standing on a boat in the clearest water, with the perfect white-sand bottom. There’s no one for as far as the eye can see. The only sounds you hear are the call of the birds and the lapping of the ocean. Then you hear your guide whisper “30 yards at 12 o’clock.” And thus the hunt for the elusive Bonefish begins!

The Humidor Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse has diners saying so long to traditional menus and hello to unlimited portions of a variety of delectable meats.

The term Churrascaria (pronounced choo-rah-scah-ree-ah) dates back to the early 1800’s in the south of Brazil and refers to a restaurant that specializes in Rodizio- a Brazilian barbecue method of grilling, cutting and serving varieties of meats such as chicken, pork, beef, lamb and more.

At Humidor Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse, platter after platter of decadently seasoned, grilled and skewered meats are precisely cut and served tableside to each diner alongside a banquet-style buffet of tantalizing dishes ranging from simple salads and bean dishes to savoury vegetables, fresh fish and indulgent Brazilian specialties.

Giotto Pizzeria
Giotto Pizzeria offers diners an array of traditional 12” individual thin crust pizzas, hand tossed and cooked to perfection from the wood burning oven.

Graycliff Lounge
Celebrated for its Champagne Cocktail and the Graycliff Special, The Lounge Bar at Graycliff Restaurant offers cocktail service every day from 11:30am to 11:30pm. A pianist plays each evening during dinner service.

The Heritage Museum of The Bahamas
The Heritage Museum of The Bahamas opened in July 2014 and is the foundation of Graycliff’s new Heritage Village. Located in the historically preserved Mountbatten House opposite the Graycliff Hotel on West Hill Street, the museum offers visitors an in depth look at the history and heritage of The Bahamas, ranging from the pre-historic times to the present.

The majority of pieces in the exhibition are owned by Hamilton White, a well-known British antiques collector. Mr. White’s expansive collection greatly complements the history of West Hill Street with fossils, relics and treasures spanning the centuries, the oldest of artefacts being a slice of a meteorite, which is approximately 4.5 billion years old.

The timeline explores natural history, the days of Columbus, the piracy era, slavery and plantation life, the Maritimes of the 18th century, life in the Out Islands during the early 1900’s, the days of the Duke of Windsor, the Royal Air Force, Bahamas Speed Weeks, and so much more.

Our resort is perfectly placed on the tranquil South Bight of the Tongue of the Ocean for exciting water sports like water-skiing and wake-boarding. For divers, a spectacular reef awaits just offshore, while the calm, colorful shallows are a paradise for snorkeling, paddle-boarding or a ride in a transparent canoe.

FISHING

Offshore Fishing, Famous From Hemingway, Tiamo organize fully equipped Boat which makes blue water fishing fun and easily accessible from the resort.

The large area of water surrounding the resort is not commercially fished and sees few fishermen. This means there are plentiful supplies of wahoo, innumerable varieties of snapper and grouper, Mahi Mahi caught on both fly and bait and several species of Tuna to name a few.

Eating what you catch is the Tiamo principle so fish caught are then freshly prepared by the Chef or member of his team and served in the restaurant the same day.

Blue water fishing trips can range from regular ‘fun fishing trips,’ to the reef less than three miles away using deep drop electric reels for a full days deep fishing in the Tongue of the Ocean, where among many other species, marlin and sailfish are regularly seen.

‍Reef Fishing: Yellow tail, Red, Grey and Mutton Snapper, Strawberry Grouper, Trigger fish, Grunts, Barracuda, Jacks and Porgy… The lobster season is open from August 1st to March 31st.

‍Offshore Fishing: Wahoo, Yellow and Black-fin Tuna, Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), Kingfish, Albacore…

And of course, at Tiamo we take protecting our marine environment as seriously as our above-ground efforts, so we endorse a catch-and-release policy and the use of barbless flies only.

BONE FISHING

‍Our experienced guides fish a vast area of Andros Island in the interest of providing you with the best fishing opportunities. You may fish the waters of the South Bight, all the way to the incredible picturesque and wade friendly waters around “Water Cay’ where shoals of bonefish over a hundred yards across are often seen. Or you may head North to the fabled “Land of the Giants” where some of the largest bonefish can be found.

Tiamo fishing gives you immediate access to uncountable flats and undisturbed tidal creeks.
 Bonefish tend to be the primary target but there are several areas on the West Side with resident Tarpon.

Permit appear when least expected and for excitement on a slow day, barracuda, snapper and sharks can all be caught on fly. If you are bone fishing for the first time than a half days are possible.

Or for the greatest challenge, set out wading or kayaking from the resort and see if you can first spot and then catch the ‘ghost of the flats’ by yourself.

SNORKELING
Tiamo is the perfect place for snorkeling. The clear waters off South Andros are teeming with a colorful array of sea life, including angelfish, barracuda, stingray and parrotfish.

If you’ve never snorkeled before, you only need to wade into the warm turquoise water right off the beach to have your first memorable taste.

Getting Married in the Bahamas
We have all the knowledge and experience to ensure your Bahamian wedding day is seamless and stress-free. Marriage licenses can be arranged on Long Island for just $100 for US Citizens and $140 for our European couples. Local marriage commissioners or an Anglican priest are available to perform the ceremony.

Residency Period: Couples can apply a day after they arrive and can be married as soon as they receive their approved license (usually the day after the application)

Proof of Identification and Residency: Both parties must show a valid passport, birth certificate and photo ID as well as evidence of the date of arrival in the Bahamas. The Bahamas Immigration Card or entry stamp in your passport will suffice.

Witnesses: Two witnesses, (at least 18 years old), must sign your marriage license. If it’s just the two of you, we can provide witnesses.

Fees: Commissioner fees are $400. The average cost of a marriage license is $120 and includes one certified copy of the marriage license. Additional certificates are available at $20 each. Apostilles (certifications) are $10 each when required. Prices are subject to change slightly per government requirements.

Divorced: If either party has been divorced, the original final decree or a certified copy must be produced. Where applicable, a translated, certified and notarized copy of the final decree must be produced.

Single Persons: If either party is single and never married before, a declaration certifying this fact must be sworn before a notary public or other person authorized to administer oaths in the country of residence.

This document must accompany the application for the marriage license. The declaration can also be obtained in the Bahamas from an attorney-at-law or notary public.

Widowed: If either party is widowed, the original death certificate or a certified copy must be produced. Where applicable, a translated, certified and notarized copy of the death certificate must be produced.

SNORKELING
Jaw-dropping snorkeling expeditions are available at Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort. Glide through the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and see hundreds of technicolor fish, rays and sea turtles.

Spend the day exploring the local waters searching out trumpet fish, colorful parrot fish and curious scorpion fish. Marvel at the diverse color of soft and hard coral reefs as you skim the surface of these tropical waters.

The snorkeling trips are two and a half hours and include rental of snorkel gear and guidance by experienced, first-aid certified tour guides.

SCUBA DIVING
Certified scuba divers will enjoy the diversity of scuba diving available at Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort. Get face to face with colorful fish in their natural environment and explore ship wrecks from days gone by.

Or dive the wall at Conception Island Marine Park — a protected sanctuary that is home to every conceivable underwater plant, mammal and fish.

All scuba diving expeditions at Cape Santa Maria use new and well maintained equipment, and are led by PADI Certified Dive Master, Delbert Smith. Please ensure you have proof of certification prior to making any reservations for diving at the Cape.

• Barracuda Heads, 25 minutes via boat. See large coral reef formation with swim through tunnel
• Angel Fish Reef, 20 minutes via boat. See gray & queen angel fish, tiger grouper, spotted and green moray eel.
• Turtle Heads, 20 minutes via boat. See Hawks bill and Green sea turtles and large sting rays.
• Flamingo Tongue Reef, 12 minutes via boat. Great for beginner divers. See schools of yellow goat fish, snapper, scorpion fish, sting ray and parrot fish.
• Comberback, 15 minutes via boat. See a ship wreck over 30 years old. There’s lots of soft coral, sponges, tiger grouper, tropical fish and the occasional Black Tip Reef shark and sea turtle.
• Conception Island, 85 minutes via boat. Visit the Island Marine Park for lunch and explore the beach. The Wall has forests of Elk Horn Coral, sea turtles, blue parrot fish, reef shark, manta ray, Angel fish, sting rays and more.

Fishing in the Bahamas
The waters off Long Island have some of the Bahamas’ finest saltwater fishing. A variety of sport fish are caught year round.

Whether you wade out to the shallow tidal flats, fish with your family over the nearby reefs, or take a deep sea expedition, the fishing at Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort is often regarded as the highlight activity of a visit to Long Island.

Hovering over crystal clear water eight to twenty-four inches deep, you can spend hours casting into schools of Bonefish visible below. You’ll be amazed by the strength and stamina of the scrappy Bonefish — pound for pound the strongest fighting fish in the world!

For a deep sea adventure, fishing excursions are available with experienced, professional guides. Using ballyhoo, small baitfish and feather hoochies, you’ll fish for trophy-sized beauties like White and Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Tuna, Shark, Dorado and Sailfish. For those looking for a more low-key family fishing adventure, a reef fishing excursion with legendary Captain Bert ‘You-Gotta-Hook-‘Em-to-Cook-‘Em’ Adderley puts you on the fish.

Alternatively, rental cars ($79-$95/day) are also available over our front desk for those interested in creating their own adventure.

Columbus Monument
The monument was originally constructed by the Long Islanders Association as a tribute to the arrival of Christopher Columbus on October 17th, 1492.

This spectacular ‘view-site’ perched atop the white cliffs of the Long Island coastline offers commanding views of the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas, lush greenery, and the other-worldly blues and whites of fishing flats below.

Accessibility to this historic site was greatly improved with a road constructed in 2019 making it also a favorite cycling destination from the resort (11.5km, 7miles round-trip). The site offers picnic areas, amazing snorkeling, private beaches, a natural ‘lazy river, and amazing shelling opportunities.

The Shrimp Hole
Behind the spectacular ruin of what may be the oldest church in all of the Bahamas (St. Mary the Blessed Virgin est. 1669), is a well-marked trail to one of Long Island’s less-known natural attractions.

At the end relatively simple 10min hike through the inland indigenous scrub brush is a freshwater limestone cave inhabited by what are thought to be small red Sterrar’s Cave Shrimp – a critically endangered cave dwelling arthropods. It is a unique sight to behold and a great way to break up the drive between the North and South of the Island.

Max’s Conch Bar
This roadside conch shack is perhaps the most famous of all Long Island institutions. The quality of the local cuisine, the strength of their rum punch, and the character of the local patrons make this a must visit on any (and every) Long Island road-trip. Gary, Liz and Karnetha will keep you entertained and ensure you leave full of food, a few great Long Island stories, and a priceless memories of ‘real’ community culture.

If you are visiting as part of a guided Island Tour, lunch is not included in the tour rate.

Hamilton’s Caves
Hamilton’s Cave is the largest cave system in the Bahamas. The Lucayan Indians were thought to have lived here around 500 A.D., and many Lucayan artifacts were discovered in 1936.

The cave is named after the small settlement of Hamiton’s, located south of Salt Pond. It is owned and operated by Mr. Leonard Cartwright, a Long Island native who offers tours through the cave system, with some passages over 15 meters wide and 3 meters high, where he played hide-and-seek with his family as a child. Tours are $20/adult and can be booked through our front office.

Dean’s Blue Hole
Dean’s Blue Hole is the world’s second deepest blue hole. Plunging 663 feet (202 meters) to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, the blue hole is oval at its surface, with a diameter ranging from 80 to 120 feet (25 to 37 meters).

A popular destination for divers and visitors from all over the world, the hole was the location of the recent free diving world record of 274 ft. (83 meters) and home of the Free Diving World Championships.

SANDY CAY IGUANA TOUR
The Bahamas are home to more species of rare rock iguanas than any other Caribbean island nation. Each iguana species is unique to the island which they inhabit, varying their colors solid gray to a kaleidoscope of green, orange, and red, blue, yellow and pink.

Our spectacular Sandy Cay excursion originates from our very own beach and will take you to their natural habitat and perhaps one of the most breathtaking sandbars off the west coast of Long Island.

The resort’s exclusive Sandy Cay Iguana Tour (9am – 2pm) takes you an hour by boat to explore Long Island’s coast over every shade of Bahama blue imaginable; and then on to the Sandy Cay, home of the iguanas and blockbuster Hollywood movie Pirates of the Caribbean.

On the cay, you will spend some time exploring the island and meet the resident iguanas, wade the shallows with sting rays and lemon sharks and marvel at the majestic pair of Osprey who make their home atop the tallest tree on the Cay.

While you explore, your boat captain and first mate will prepare the sandbar for your beach picnic complete with umbrellas for shade and beach chairs for lounging. You will truly feel you are the first (or last) humans on the planet. The ultimate ‘escape’ and a day you will not soon forget.
