Wake up to the sun rising over the bay and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Let the Royal Duchy work its magic on you. With its breathtaking position by the sea and 4 silver star facilities, you’ll soon fall in love with the Royal Duchy Hotel.

In this exquisite setting, you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle, yet it’s only a short stroll to Falmouth town centre and golden beaches. The Royal Duchy was one of the first hotels set up in Falmouth over a hundred years ago.

Today, it has a reputation as one of the top luxury hotels in Cornwall. In fact, in 2018 we became the only hotel in the area to be given the award of 4 silver stars.

Right by the sea, there are all the facilities you could want, including a heated indoor pool, spa treatments and a superb restaurant serving AA Rosette winning cuisine including day caught local seafood.

Discover Falmouth
The Lonely Planet has just pronounced England to be the second-best tourist destination in the entire world and (we may be biased) we believe Cornwall is the jewel in the English crown.

Falmouth is one of the most inspiring and uplifting places in Cornwall and The Royal Duchy Hotel makes the ideal base from which to explore.

As well as its chilled, cosmopolitan vibe, Falmouth has a unique maritime heritage and boasts a range of world-class watersports to enjoy on its miles of golden beaches and crystal waters.

Up for exploring? You’ll discover a wealth of stunning coastline, charming gardens and towns, and historic and cultural sites in and around Falmouth.

Whether you’re interested in National Trust destinations such as Penrose, St Michael’s Mount and Glendurgan Gardens or you’d like to have a go at surfing or visit Newquay Zoo – we are perfectly positioned for you to explore the local area.

Welcoming visitors to Cornwall for generations
The Royal Duchy was one of the very first hotels to be built in Falmouth when it was established in July 1893.

With its seafront position, it was popular with wealthy Victorian and Edwardian tourists, who travelled down from London on the new Cornwall Railway. For a while, the hotel was named the Hydro Hotel and it promoted the therapeutic health benefits of sea bathing.

During the Second World War, American soldiers were stationed at the hotel and anti-aircraft guns were set up in the grounds. You can still see the base of the guns near the sun terrace.

The Victorian grandfather clock in the cocktail bar has been ticking away at the hotel for more than a century. In fact, when Brend Hotels bought the hotel in 1977, the purchase was made only on condition that the grandfather clock stayed exactly where it was.

For well over a century, people have loved The Royal Duchy. Come and see for yourselves why…
