Just a few steps from the heart of the walled town of Asolo, with its outstanding feature as a noble country residence, Villa Cipriani is the ideal destination for a holiday filled with tranquillity and wellness. Our guests will find the perfect combination of elegance, hospitality, and attention to detail, in a timeless atmosphere.

The heart of Villa Cipriani is its famous garden that changes colours with the seasons: invaded with tulips in April, a cascade of fragrant roses in May and gradually alternating scents, like the unforgettable olea fragrans, and colours as the months pass. Then there is the imposing persimmon tree in front of the terrace featured in the garden in the winter months.

The Villa has always been a destination for illustrious guests such as the Queen Mother of England, Prince Phillip of Edinburgh, Juliana of Holland, Albert of Monaco, and actors such as Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio de Sica, Orson Welles, Peter O’Toole, Catherine Deneuve, Kim Basinger, Sharon Stone amongst others.

Names leaked through the thick web of privacy, a prerogative of the hotel to protect a tranquil weekend, romantic interlude, or a holiday enjoying food and wine.

THE HISTORY
Built during the Palladian Era, the villa underwent significant improvements in the 18th century. In 1889, the English poet Robert Browning purchased the property. Under his guidance, the villa acquired its noble Tuscan aspect, which blends perfectly with the gentle hills of Asolo.

It was then sold to a rich Venetian family in 1902, that used it for many years as a holiday home and was later rented out and converted into an inn.

In 1962, the Villa was purchased by Rupert Guinness, the second Count of Iveagh, from the famous Irish beer-producing family, a known businessman, politician, philanthropist, generous supporter of scientific research, Chancellor of the University of Dublin and then, landowner in Asolo.

In the 60s, Lord Iveagh hired Giuseppe Cipriani – founder of Harry’s Bar in Venice, inventor of the Bellini cocktail and of the Carpaccio – to transform it into a charming hotel: Villa Cipriani. So, the picturesque inn was transformed into the small country jewel that guests now enjoy.

In 1974, Villa Cipriani became part of the Ciga Hotels chain and in 1995, it became part of the Sheraton group and then Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

In 2012, industrialist from Treviso Massimo Zanetti purchased Villa Cipriani and, year after year, thanks to continuous con preservative restorations, contributed to maintaining the elegance, refinement, and family charm.

WINE EXPERIENCE
Villa Cipriani is located within the production area of Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG; the consortium that protects this denomination, and which also acquired the DOCG thanks to the constant commitment of the winemakers, was established right here in the hills surrounding the city of Asolo.

Immersed in the lush greenery of the hills at the foot of Monte Grappa, between rows of vines, visitors can discover the place where winemakers produce their wine with constant care and commitment.

When you arrive at the winery, the family will welcome you into their home and give you a tour of the laboratory. You will find out about the family history and their age-old tradition, and finish with a tasting of your choice.

THE SPIRITS
Stills, glass spirals that rise up to the sky, vapours, large copper-red basins, hints of wild fruit, imperfect in its perfection, of flowers and forgotten essences; all brought to life by this family of artisans and their skilful production process.

Here tradition and land meet the art of transformation, precious alchemies that start with the search for something not easily found and end with a product not commonly tasted.

CRAFT BEER
Not far from Villa Cipriani lives a family of perfumers who, since 1924 with true passion have devoted themselves to the creation of unique and sophisticated fragrances.

Ancient formulas enhanced with modern techniques, inspired by art, philosophy, culture and journeys. Each person, through an intimate, personal experience and guided by a skilful perfumer can create its own unique scent.

THE GARDEN
The outdoor areas are carefully designed in every detail, where to rediscover the inner harmony, surrounded by a magical and romantic atmosphere. A story of colours and fragrances accompany the guests in every season.

The garden is undoubtedly Villa Cipriani’s crowning glory, recipient of the Top 10 Magnificent Gardens award from Historic Hotels Worldwide and included in the American Horticultural Society’s Garden of Excellence circuit since the middle of the nineties.

The colours and fragrance will accompany you throughout the seasons: from the explosion of colours with tulips in spring, to the sweet scent of jasmine in May, from the wave of perfume from the olea fragrans in September, to the orange shades of the persimmon trees in the winter.

Our guests will relax in the panoramic infinity pool nestled in the green garden, winner of the Best Italian Outdoor Hotel Pool at the Italian Pool Awards in 2014. Immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of our garden and enjoy a regenerative holiday in Asolo!

ASOLO
Asolo is located in a strategic spot for visiting numerous places of historic and artistic interest and is fabulously located in the hills, with one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Veneto.

Villa Cipriani is the perfect starting point to discover all facets of the Veneto: excursions to the cities of art, interesting itineraries discovering architectural masterpieces, visits, and wine-tastings at Prosecco vineyards.

Just a few kilometres away are the Gipsoteca and the Temple of Antonio Canova in Possagno, or Bassano del Grappa with its beautiful Palladian bridge. A bit further away is Marostica with its famous Chess Square where a human chess game is played every two years. Of significant architectural interest is the Brion Tomb created by Carlo Scarpa in San Vito d’Altivole.

One hour from Vicenza and Padova, a little bit more from incomparable Venice, and a half hour from Treviso, you can visit some of the most famous villas of Andrea Palladio in the area, including Villa Barbaro in Maser or Villa Emo in Fanzolo.

Immersed in the lands of Prosecco Asolo DOCG and neighbors of the Prosecco hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019 – the area offers a precious combination of cultural and gastronomic visits.

ART & CULTURE
Asolo has always been a place particularly appreciated and dear to artists and men of culture, and it still is to this day. Giosuè Carducci called it “the City with a hundred horizons.” The beauty and history of this city caused it to be recognised as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.

Eleonora Duse stayed several times in Asolo and is buried here – at her request – in the small cemetery of Sant’Anna. It was visited by Gabriele D’Annunzio, Arturo Toscanini, and many other famous names and Robert Browning, Francesco Malipiero, and Freya Stark, among others, lived here. There are various cultural events throughout the year.

In spring there is the International Festival of Classical Music “Malipiero Concerti”, in June the Asolo Art Film Festival, in September the International Festival of Chamber Music “Incontri Asolani” and the Festival del Viaggiatore, a kermesse of cultural meetings located throughout the village with the Segafredo Zanetti Award “UN LIBRO UN FILM”, the first national award dedicated to narrative for the cinema.

During June, the Palio di Asolo and dei 100 Orizzonti takes place. In this competition, the neighbourhoods of Asolo compete, pulling Roman chariots along an uphill path of about 1800 metres.

The event began in 1993 to commemorate the arrival of Queen Catherine Cornaro in Asolo. Above the chariot, a girl in historical dress represents the queen who in 1489 entered triumphant in Asolo to take possession of her new dominion. Every second Sunday, a historic and renowned antique market is held.

Bicycling is more than a passion for the inhabitants of this area, it is a tradition. The streets of Montello, the hills of Pedemontana, the peaks of Monte Grappa, Monte Tomba, Pianezze, and Cansiglio make this area an ideal place for bicycle enthusiasts.

BICYCLING IN ASOLO

In fact, there are numerous bicycle paths throughout the province of Treviso: from the GiraSile in the Sile Natural Park to the Montello cycling ring, from the Piave ring to the Monaco-Venice cycle route, to mention a few.

Each year, Asolo hosts the “Granfondo Segafredo city of Asolo” bicycle race, a 105 km path that over the years has earned the nickname “small Flanders” of the Veneto, given its spectacular scenery, in no way inferior to what is found in Belgium.
