Welcome to Kandersteg in our Waldhotel Doldenhorn. Your stay with us will be enriched by several surprises! We bought the small pension Doldenhorn in 1976. Continual extension and renovation have turned it into the 4-star-superior hotel it is today.
In addition we operate the lovely Ruedihus whith its own rustic charm. Just breathe in the 250 years of history contained within its walls. On November 1st 1976 we were young and full of energy and bought the small Pension Doldenhorn. Thanks to you, our guests, we have been able to renovate, extend and develop our offerings.
We strive to attain the highest possible quality in all our endeavours. In the kitchen we aim to have the best possible raw materials and the freshest available. The performance of the kitchen and the cellars must be over average since they are the kernel of our enterprise.
Our guests should receive expert, friendly and personal service so that they fell exceptionally comfortable. We wish to achieve these aims with honesty, ethical materials and methods which abide by our laws. Long term, acceptable financial conditions are more important than short term profit optimization.
Our personnel are our strength. It is our most important management task to lead them so that they understand and work towards our aims. We take especial care of the environment.
Rooms
We offer several room categories. From simple and practically furnished room sin the economy class to luxury suites. Qiet rooms looking out to the forest or rooms with views of the mountains. All romm s are non-smoking. You can smoke on the balcony or in the smoker lounge.
Apartement
You would like to cook for yourself and live separately but still do not miss the amenities of a hotel? Then we would like to introduce our apartment: We rent the apartment with bath / WC, large double bedroom and children’s room with 2 beds.
In addition, the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher and a washing machine is at your disposal. The spacious living room has a fireplace for cuddly cozy hours. Summer time is garden and barbecue time, the garden place with grill is ideally equipped for it.
Restaurant Burestube
Traditional Swiss hospitality with a genuine ambience greets you in our Burestube. The snug is the ideal place to meet with friends. It doesn’t matter whether you have just a glass of wine or a delightful meal you are always welcome here. Enjoy the bistro specialties made from market fresh ingredients which fulfill you every wish.
The Green Dining Room
The Green Dining Room is THE place for gourmets to enjoy delicious meals and fine wines. René Maeders’ kintchen brigade creates menus which are in accord with their philosophy: fresh, varied and creative preparation.
That’s why he is called “the magician at the stove”. It is our pleasure to spoil our guests and our ears are open to their every wish. The kitchen brigade prepares your choice of dishes from market fresh products. A joy for the senses – taste and sight.
The Blue Salon and Gourmet Room
The Gourmet Restaurant and the Blue Salon impress with their cool elegance and quality furnishings. Gourmets dine here in noble surroundings while partaking of the fresh and creative Maeder cusine. The service team will serve you from the rich variety of cheeses on the cheese board and from the delicious desserts on the dessert trolley.
Winter Garden
Do you really enjoy eating al fresco? Our well lit and friendly winter garden is just the place for you. It fascinates with the all-round daylight and pastel colours. An unforgettable experience to consume our fresh food in a garden room.
Kanderfirn Salon
The ideal location for banquets. The salon can be divided in two rooms according to the size required. The balcony leading off the salon has an impressive view of the surrounding mountains.
Restaurant in the Ruedihus
The cosy ambience in the Resaturant Rzedihus is reflected in the cooking style – Swiss traditional: however, our creativity and refinements add to the enjoyment without diverging from the traditional and natural cuisine.
In the Egger- and Stettler-parlours you will be treated to the Ruedihus menu of traditional Swiss dishes from the Bernese Oberland. How about trying the marinated pot-roast known as “Suure Mocke” or our specially cured farmhouse ham – “Schnifu Büürehamme”.
Typically Swiss! In the wine parlour of the country guest house Ruedihus the cheese dishes will delight any cheese fan. Both Raclette and Fondue are served in an extra special ambience.
Spa
Spa is the modern word for a health resort. The discussion whether SPA comes from the Belgian Bathing Resort “Spa” or from the phrase Sanitas Per Aquam (health through water) we will leave to others to determine.
We try to offer everything which helps the bodies and spirits of our guests to regenerate and which contributes to their wellbeing.
That’s why we built the Doldenhorn Spa. It was built according to the most modern ecological guidelines. Our own spring and a modern heat pump produces all the energy required.
We offer our meticulously planned Spa-Packages for stays of 2 nights or more for guests of the Hotel Doldenhorn and the Ruedihus Country Inn. It’s ideal if you can book your Spa-Package when you book your room. Then we can set up a treatment plan for you which gives the most benefits for your health and relaxation.
Swimming Pool
Our indoor swimming pool with an outside basin is the heart of our wellness oasis. The many other offerings in the Doldenhorn spa are grouped around the pool There is a Bil- and Finnish-Sauna, steam bath, Hamam area, solarium, Kneipp spring, whirlpool and large area for rest and relaxation.
The Doldenhorn Spas is built according to ecological guide lines: we heat it with a modern heat pump. What’s really special about our pool is that the water you swim in comes from the mountains behind us.
Sauna
Sweating in the classical sauna with temperatures up to 90 C° stimulate the circulation and vital bodily processes: colds can be avoided…… look forward to the perfumed steam and changing from hot to cold and then the total relaxation after the sauna is over.
A little less demanding but just as good for you is the steam bath. The temperature is 45 – 60 C° with high humidity which gently stimulates the circulation and protects against colds. Adding essential oils benefits the organism and psyche as well.
Baths
A large selection of baths, packs and peeling are offered in our Doldenhon-Spa. Why not take a look at our price list which can be downloaded in pdf format.
You’ll find all the information which baths you need for body water reduction, detoxification, stimulation of the metabolism, blood purification and reduction of body waste. You will find body peeling which leaves your stressed skin as soft as a peach and there are also programs for him, for her or for both.
Rest and relaxation area
Realxation requires tranquility, close your eyes and forget about your normal, stressful working life! That’s why we created the Doldenhorn-Spa relaxation zone. When it’s warm enough it’s wonderful to lie in the garden and view the mountain panorama . The timeless tranquility of the mountains is a tonic for body and soul. The atmosphere is one of majestic tranquility.
But the indoor quiet zone has its own special qualities. You can forget the workaday world when surrounded by noble wood and extravagant architecture and an ambience of utter luxury. Let your favourite music or book be your accompaniment during your stressless journey.
Massage
The soothing effect of a massage works on much more than the part of the body receiving the massage. The whole body and psyche are positively stimulated through the stimulation of the massage. The Doldenhorn-Spa Wellness-Program offers a variety of different massages to meet your every need.
They range from classical massage which relaxes and makes all muscle groups more limber, as well as increasing the circulation and metabolism to relaation massages, aroma oil massages and sport and brushing massages. A real highlight is the hot stone massage. Our soothing massages for head and feet make stress melt away.
The expert treatment of the reflex zones on the head and feet sooth and calm not only the treated head and feet but also the whole body Manual lymph drainage which releases fluid from the lymph glands also stimulates the flow of fluid in the lymph glands and imporves the metabolic process in connective tissue: an ideal massage after an operation, accident or nervous breakdowns.
Outdoor activities
There’s always something to discover in and arounf the Doldenhorn: Walking or hiking, Nordic walking or with the mountain bike….In winter it’s another world. Everything is covered with a sugar-white coat of snow!
Clip on your cross-country skis and enjoy the mountain panorama from the cross-country track which has routes of varying difficulty and length. The Curling hall always has stones and brooms ready for you to use.
