Region
The Arlberg and its breathtaking panorama; the landscape is characterized by rugged, snow-covered cliffs. But it is not only nature that makes the Arlberg so special, the events and numerous restaurants also add to the region’s enormous appeal.
OFFERING
You don’t have to be on skis to appreciate the wonderful Arlberg scenery. Alternative activities, such as tobogganing, snowshoeing or ski touring, are also great ways to enjoy the splendour of winter in the Arlberg.
TIP: If you like skating or cross-country skiing, you can use the intermediate cross-country trail (2.50km), at 1,800 metres altitude, with skating track. This is located in St. Christoph, next to a walking trail that is ideal for a winter walk.
In the course of time
Skiing is still just as popular today as it always was and even nature has not lost one bit of its appeal. Nevertheless, things have changed in recent decades. With the introduction of new cable cars, skiing can now be enjoyed even more.
The 94 modern ski lifts ensure queues are kept to a minimum and the heated seats make your journey uphill even more comfortable. In the Kinderland and beginner areas, there are 25 conveyor systems that help make those first attempts a painless experience.
The 340 km of ski runs, for all levels of difficulty, are situated at an elevation between 1,300 and 2,800 metres. In addition, the Arlberg comprises 200 km of deep snow descents.
With over 1,000 expertly trained ski instructors at a number of ski schools, you might like to hone your skills or discover snow sports anew. There are also fun parks and racing tracks, plus numerous ski huts inviting you to take a break in the sun.
First Ski Race
The Arlberg region welcomed its first ski tourists back in the 19th century and the very first ski race took place in 1904. Ski culture has experienced a long history in the Arlberg and this contributed to skiing becoming one of the most popular sports.
As probably the most well known ski pioneer of all time, Hannes Schneider founded the ski school in 1921. Today, the ski school offers a huge range of courses for various sports. Whether a child or grown up, here you will find what you have always wanted to do.
