Located on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, the Auberge du Père Bise remains a most unique holiday destination. Its ideal location, in the Talloires Bay in Haute-Savoie, is a perfect setting for a timeless stay.

Serenity, rejuvenation and well-being are on the menu of this fully renovated century-old residence. The Auberge du Père Bise is a 5-star Relais & Châteaux hotel, which has remained a family business throughout the years, with a refined and warm atmosphere.

Our comfortable and spacious rooms all have air-conditioning, and most offer a stunning view over the lake. Noble materials, elegant interior decoration and silky fabrics confer a charming yet very personal atmosphere to every room.

This luxury hotel is located directly on the lake’s shore and boasts a wooded park, a large terrace as well as a private beach, perfect for a blissful relaxing moment and a quick swim. This absolutely unique setting is reserved exclusively for you.

The inn story a family abode
The inn was set up by Marie and Francois called “le Père” Bise in 1903. It initially was a cottage on the lake front where one could enjoy a simple meal, that Marie would lovingly concoct. Success quickly followed and in 1928 their son Marius implemented the first extension works.

The cottage then become a beautiful hotel that welcomed celebrities of the era. His wife, Marguerite, was an amazing chef and created masterpieces that made her part of the French gourmet heritage. In 1951, the Michelin guide awarded her a third star.

Their son François, and his wife Charlyne, took over, with the same emphasis on excellence. Their daughter Sophie was next in line.

The Bise family had always wanted to offer the highest possible quality to their guests, with an outstanding setting and an elegant ambiance. In 2007, the hotel was extensively renovated to bring in modern comforts into the rooms and suites.

In 2017, Magali and Jean Sulpice start a new chapter to carry the beautiful story forward. They put in a lot of renovation efforts to bring even more comfort to the beautiful abode.

They wish to preserve the true essence of a family abode where it is possible to experience extraordinary instants like plain emotion, with a sense of hospitality, sharing and the generosity that makes up the soul of this inn.

CHARM ROOMS
These large hotel rooms amply bathed in natural light are located in the garden building: they offer stunning views over Lake Annecy. They have a lounging area equipped with a convertible sofa.

They are fitted with a large bed and a bathroom with bathtub and shower, as well as separate toilets. They have recently been renovated and have air conditioning. They all have free access to WiFi.

The restaurant – a deep-rooted cuisine
Jean Sulpice maintains an intense relationship to the natural elements that surround him. He immerses himself and unwinds in that environment, exploring them by foot or on his bike: he lives at their pace, according to the seasons.

This deep bond harmonises his existence, both as a chef and as a man. And his cuisine is the purest expression of that bond.

In this Savoyard territory that reaches out to the Italian Piedmont, the Alpine terroirs have retained their power of fascination: lakes, pastures, mountains faithfully liven Jean Sulpice’s cuisine.

From them, he draws his inspiration as well as the freedom to craft dishes comprised of frank savours and built around original flavour combinations.

Working with the seasons, careful selection of ingredients from the vicinity, and subtle variations around wild herbs are what define forthright and sincere creations, working as closely as possible to these products’ most natural and sublimated expression.

The gastronomic restaurant – 2 Michelin stars and 18.5/20 in the Gault et Millau guide – provides a warm-hearted setting to Jean Sulpice’s cuisine that perfectly matches the raw, natural environment of the Auberge du Père Bise.

The restaurant’s colours borrow from the lake’s turquoise and cerulean waters; from the main room or the terrace on sunny days, the panoramic view draws the eye from the shores of Talloires Bay to the heights of the Semnoz.

The Bistrot – a family based and traditional cuisine
Jean Sulpice’s cuisine has a rustic, traditional, almost peasant-like dimension. A pub also carries the spirit of a family based cuisine that is dear to him: parents and children gathered around the same table to share a gourmet meal.

At the “1903”, the year when Bise chalet was founded, history and tradition persist in the recipes that are made available: the special Sunday meal is available every day!

A man of seasons – Living, breathing nature
At the age of 40, Jean Sulpice has finally found in the Auberge du Père Bise a venue in perfect harmony with his culinary identity. A profoundly natural setting bathed in a peaceful light from dusk till dawn.

In the forefront, the translucent lake and its ever-changing colours that remind him of his childhood spent in Aix-les-Bains. With Florent Capretti, the inn’s designated fisherman, Jean explores the smallest nooks of the lake trying to better understand and respect this ecosystem.

Because for mankind, nature only has meaning through the relationship we maintain with it. From the lake, the eye wanders up towards the summits above, the grey verticality of rocky cliffs. Both these natural dimensions – liquid and mineral – inspire Jean Sulpice’s pure and flavourful cuisine from one season to the next.

Our activities – tourism and leisure
A stone’s throw from the water
The Auberge du Père Bise’s privileged location grants you direct and exclusive access to the lake. Comfortable deckchairs, readily available towels, and a beverage service will enable you to enjoy relaxing, athletic and refreshing moments.

Right from our pontoon, you can embark on our boat to explore the lake and discover its hidden treasures. A charming aperitif by the lake at sunset can also be setup. Directly nearby the inn, you’ll find the Talloires harbour where you can take part in numerous nautical activities (rent kayaks, water ski).

Cultural sites
From the inn, you’ll have access to many cultural sites that are well worth a visit! In Talloires, the town church dedicated to Saint-Maurice holds several polychromatic wood sculptures from the 18th century.

Just above the village, you’ll find the Saint-Germain Hermitage and its chapel, which was renovated under the impetus of Francis de Sales in 1641, on top of its 11th-century foundations.

In the neighbouring town you’ll be able to visit a landmark very much reminiscent of the Sleeping Beauty castle, the Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, which overlooks the Talloires Bay.

Finally, also nearby Talloires is located a hotspot of French Resistance, the Glières Plateau. The Department Memorial and Resistance and Deportation Museum are located on the road to Thônes.

On the Plateau, you’ll be able to visit the Resistance National Monument, which was inaugurated on September 2nd, 1973 by André Malraux. Many trekking paths allow you to explore the routes of members of the Resistance.

Towards mountain tops
Towering over the inn is the iconic 2,351m-tall Tournette’s summit and the abrupt faces of the Dents de Lanfon. Multiple trecks of various difficulty levels are available in these two massifs.

There are also numerous climbing routes in the area. Just a few minutes by car from the inn, you can reach the Col de la Forclaz and its magnificent panoramic view over the lake.

Furthermore, it is a famous take-off spot for paragliders who usually lend right at the entrance of Talloires, on the Perroix site. Paragliding initiations are available everyday, depending on the weather conditions.

A little further, thirty kilometres away, you’ll have easy access to the Aravis Range. This is also a starting point to multiple, widely varied treks, including easy walks for inexperienced trekkers.

On your way there, follow the scenic road: set out for Thônes, the town of Reblochon cheese, then climb towards Manigod and the Col de la Croix Fry before reaching the Col des Aravis, where a lot of trails start from.

One of them can be walked by the whole family, including small children, and will take you, in thirty to forty minutes, to an exceptional viewing point, across the Mont Blanc massif.
