Hotel Cour des Vosges Paris

Considered a mansion by some, a château by others, Cour des Vosges is experienced as an exceptional residence welcoming epicures, hedonists, history buffs, and lovers of Paris.

The butler hands over the key to the 12 rooms and suites, each of which feels like a pied-à-terre. Each landing recalls the architectural features of 17th-century buildings. Each hallway seems to lead, as in the past, toward stately apartments.

Evok welcomes you to the former Hôtel de Montbrun, a 17th-century residence at 19 place des Vosges. A unique and historic site, it was the royal square Henri IV planned in 1605, and therefore the oldest square in Paris.

In this exclusive landmark site, each room or suite in this 5-star hotel opens onto Square Louis XIII and its splendid houses with their recognizable pink brick façades and slate roofs.

An esoteric spot and a hotel unlike any other, Cour des Vosges instantly invites you to immerse yourself into the life of a noble French family dating back to the 16th century.

A family of art lovers and collectors that has enjoyed gathering sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, and furnishings over the decades, representing various artistic movements and the experiences of generations of patrons of the arts.

HISTORY
The first building that led to the creation of the square was La Maison des Tournelles, a private mansion built by Pierre d’Orgemont, which hosted parties and walks for the royal court.

These activities ceased on July 10, 1559 with the death of King Henry II, who succumbed to a lance injury. In a fit of anger and sadness, Catherine de Medici had the Hôtel des Tournelles demolished and the location became a horse market.

1606 THE CONSTRUCTION
At the time, there were no major squares where the royal court could assemble, party or walk. The construction of the “Place Royale” (royal square) therefore began in 1605 under King Henry IV. Construction of number 19 was entrusted to Charles Marchant, who was assigned numbers 15, 17 and 19 by the King.

DESIGN
For Cour des Vosges, interior designers Yann Le Coadic and Alessandro Scotto reached back into Paris’s history and explored the past like archaeologists, in order to reveal its beauty, uniqueness, and strength.

In dealing with a historic landmark with original painted ceiling beams and period terra cotta floors, the guiding theme of their design was to protect, preserve, and respect the authenticity and spirit of the building.

DECORATORS
Their priority is to completely fulfill the needs and desires of those who seek their expertise. Decorators Yann Le Coadic and Alessandro Scotto adapt to a building, a site, or an environment, and not the other way around.

This is true for any situation and any project. They have the same operating method when designing a luxury store, an apartment in the Palais Royal gardens, or a 5-star hotel on the Place des Vosges.

They know how to build, construct, and write a brand-new contemporary story for each of their projects. Theirs is a human take on their profession: they draw out an “atmospheric” ambiance within the clear lines of the architectural setting.

CURATORS
Art is present everywhere in this mansion: statues and paintings mingle with old books, first editions, and award-winning novels.

Cour des Vosges has relied on expert curators: the exclusive selection of artworks is curated by gallerist Amélie du Chalard. Anatole Desachy, independent bookseller, has chosen the books and magazines, both recent publications and rare and collectible items.

SUITES
Lecoadic & Scotto have created quite an unusual atmosphere: a discussion between eras where contemporary design meets period objects and references. Original beams, terra cotta floor tiles—here, the authenticity and spirit of the location are preserved and respected.

The suites on the second floor of Cour des Vosges have stunning views of the place des Vosges. The higher up you go, the more the panorama expands. From the suites on the third and fourth floors, you rise above the tops of the linden and horse chestnut trees in the garden.

DELUXE SUITE – 101
This deluxe, 484 sq. ft. (45 sq. mt.) suite is a true pied-à-terre in Paris’s Marais neighborhood. Anyone looking to experience French art de vivre will find it here.

Located on the 2nd floor of Cour des Vosges, it overlooks the trees on Square Louis XIII and its location on the historic floor of the bourgeoisie means you will enjoy the 16-foot high ceilings.

This immersion in history is extended by the building’s original, officially protected, hand-painted historic beams; interior shutters; and a selection of works of art.

It plunges you into the past, which is daringly reconstructed by decorators Yann Le Coadic and Alessandro Scotto, who have reinvented the four-poster bed as an all-stainless steel frame, giving the subtle impression of a room within a room.

To this is added a selection of novels and coffee table books, two TVs – one across from the king-size bed – many shelves, a bathroom with shower, bathtub, and Guerlain toiletries, a separate toilet, and a cooking space.

This deluxe suite connects with superior suite 102, which then opens onto deluxe suite 103, meaning the entire floor can be privatized. This configuration is ideal for travelling as a family

DELUXE SUITE – 203
Immerse yourself fully in French art de vivre and hospitality. A vestibule with an upholstered bench seat doubles as a walk-in closet.

Next, high ceilings, original beams, interior shutters, and a view of the tree canopy of Square Louis XIII remind you of just how extraordinary this deluxe, 592 sq. ft. (55 sq. mt.) suite truly is.

Here, decorators Yann Le Coadic and Alessandro Scotto have blended past and present, using the structure of yesteryear with the materials of today. Their version of the four-poster bed, reinvented using an all-stainless steel frame, is the perfect illustration.

To this is added a selection of works of art, novels, and coffee table books, all elegantly placed throughout the suite, along with two TVs (including one directly across from the king-size bed) and a cooking space.

The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which offers a cozy retreat to take care of yourself with a shower, bathtub, and Guerlain toiletries, all bathed in natural light.

A double door can connect it to superior suite 202, which then opens onto deluxe suite 201, meaning the entire floor can be privatized. This configuration is ideal for travelling as a family.

TEA ROOM
To maintain the customs of French art de vivre, 19 Place des Vosges contains a restaurant. It offers light gourmet fare for breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner. The “Brach-La Pâtisserie” corner also presents a selection of sweet treats concocted by pastry chef Yann Brys, who was named Meilleur Ouvrier de France.

The menu features soups and salads, as well as a choice of hot dishes, such as turkey and truffle croque-monsieur or beef bourguignon with bacon and button mushrooms. Enjoy inside or on the heated terrace, under the arcades of the place des Vosges.

PATISSERIE BY YANN BRYS
19 place des Vosges is also home to the “Brach-La Pâtisserie Corner”. It offers traditional desserts alongside bold and colorful creations, loaf cakes and pastries by Yann Brys, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Take away or stay and enjoy in this comfortable and welcoming space.

YANN BRYS
As a young boy, talented pastry chef Yann Brys began helping his mother bake sweet treats. He was schooled at the catering and hotel management school in Toulouse, where he earned an associate’s degree in pastry arts.

While working a seasonal job at a palace hotel in Cannes, he met pastry chef Michel Mendiela, who opened his eyes to the profession. For Yann, it was a revelation.

He learnt his art with Philippe Urraca, named “Meilleur Ouvrier de France,” Sébastien Gaudard in Fauchon and during his military service as the pastry chef at the Defense Ministry. Then he joined Dalloyau as the deputy to Pascal Niau, in charge of research and development.

Since 2015, he has been the Evok group’s Director of Sweet Creations.
