Ostape is a 5-star hotel combining tradition with modernity. It is located near the small village of Bidarray, in the midst of the hills of the marvelous Basque backcountry.
The 22 suites (in 5 different villas) and the main building (a 17th century mansion) are located within a 45-hectare estate. They all offer breathtaking views of the Pyrenees. Comfort, service, luxury and serenity are the key words for your stay in this hidden sactuary.
On the estate, 5 traditional Basque-style villas : each bears its own name : le Cayolar (name given to the traditional Basque sheepfold), la Tonne, la Palombière (Basque dovecote), le Haras (the stud) and l’Auberge, and hosts suites from 45 to 91 sqm.
All the suites offer an independent entrance. They are all luxuriuous and comfortable but each is uniquely decorated. Each piece of furniture has been carefully chosen.
The star here is nature : each suite has a balcony or a terrace overlooking the green hills in the distance. A small electric car is available for the guests to move on the estate.
Follow the pristine mountain stream, while climbing to the crest, take an ever narrowing path to be sure that you have finally arrived. Before your very eyes: a sea of hills, an earthly swell tectonically fixed for centuries and to last for centuries yet to come.
A vast green wave, rolling in sweetness and stroked by the warming sun, coloured only rarely by a few red-tiled roofs and a countless number of white dots which are Basque sheep. In the distance, an even higher mountain ridge tinted in mauve, the emerald green bursting forth in sheer silence.
The forests here are gorgeous, with firs, chestnuts, beech, and oak trees, the symbol of the Basque Country that can be found on both sides of the Pyrenees. Many oak trees have their sturdy roots in Ostapé, a name that literally means ” in the shadow of the oak tree”.
Porcini mushrooms grow profusely at the foot of the oak trees fed by the rain and the sun. Local roads make it easy to cut down ferns, gorse and brooms.
There are trails that weave their way through the rocky hillside. Upon arrival, guests leave their car at the stables, and are given a golf cart to circulate on the property.
The Water
It is under the 45 ha property that Ostape spring water draw its exceptional mineral composition.
Ostape water, a modern and eco-friendly initiative is often control in our catchment area, it is micro-filtered thanks to SAFE technology, it is one of the plenty of solution we have to contribute to a sustainable development.
We serve it still or sparkling, at the desired temperature. It is also available to take away. Ostape water is Basque water.
Restaurant
Gastronomic restaurant with panoramic terrace in the Basque Country. The restaurant, Lore Tipia, is located in the 17th century mansion. Depending on the weather and your preferences, meals can be served on the terrace, overlooking the mountains or in the dining room.
Our beautiful wine cellar adjoins the dining room and holds the most prestigious wines from the area (Irouléguy hills and Riojas) as well as Pomerols and others…
Here, the local cuisine is highlighted : Banka Trout, Black sausage, Pork from the Aldudes (Basque valley) or ewe’s milk cheese, directly produced in Bidarray. That’s local top gastronomy prepared by our chef, Manon Grasset. Our restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner.
