Casa Berno is part of the Fondazione Beato Pietro Berno di Ascona and, for the last 16 years, has been run by husband-and-wife team Manuela and Bruno Caratsch. In addition to their thorough, thoughtful customer service, they bring a family feel to the hotel and are the first point of call for anything guests may need.
Casa Berno was originally built in 1961–1962 and, over the years, has been extended and refurbished to ensure it remains a modern and efficient establishment.
The hotel’s income is largely used to fund social projects run by the Fondazione Beato Pietro Berno di Ascona, a charity named after a local martyr who died in India in 1583 and whose relics, in the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, are much venerated locally.

Every dish is carefully prepared by our chef and served by the staff from our restaurant, La Terrazza. We cater to all dietary requirements and even offer the option of creating a custom menu for your guests.
EXCURSIONS IN TICINO
With some 1400 km of paths surrounding our hotel, you’re spoiled for choice at Casa Berno. From the Centovalli to the Valle Onsernone, the Vallemaggia, the Valle Verzasca, and Gambarogno itself, there are hundreds of opportunities to be at one with nature.
If you enjoy wending your way up the slopes to enjoy panoramic views from the summit, or if you love to find yourself immersed in landscapes that bear witness to the age-old relationship between man and mountain, then the valleys of Locarno and Gambarogno and their surrounding peaks are right up your street.
There are plenty of well-signposted itineraries – ranked by level of difficulty – that are suitable for all abilities, from families with children to highly experienced hikers. Follow the route less travelled to discover tiny hamlets and mountain pastures where Ticino’s traditions are still kept alive.
The Locarno region and its valleys offer an incredible array of landscapes to explore. Choose between gentle paths winding their way along the shores of Lake Maggiore, and mountain trails that lead you right to the rooftop of Vallemaggia, more than 3000 metres above sea level.
