Nowadays times are changing in a massive way. Higher, broader, more of everything are the new slogans. But not at the Hotel Gartner! Silence for the soul and rest from the rest of the accelerated world is our motto, and we take it very, very seriously.

True luxury is here a healthy mix of new and old (hotel) values. On the one hand the most modern techniques, on the other hand an attentive service with a real sense of tradition. Stylish fashion and classic elegance get together for a cool dance. This is the way it sounds like when hip-hop meets classic! And you in the middle!

Artworks from all over the world, furniture from Europe’s trendiest cities, a gourmet cuisine that has no equal. Casual, stylish, informal… and always with that something more that everyone envies us! Here people operate for people. Nice if you were among them! See you soon in South Tyrol’s lifestyle oasis The Gartners and the young hotel staff

Styles that meet and melt. Simply marvel…
The maximum of distinctiveness is provided by wood, glass and steel: these elements create elegance without conveying rigidity. Wood as natural material and glass as transparent medium create new perspectives both looking at the house from the outside and admiring the scenery from the inside.

Read, browse, be amazed…
The Gartner’s hotel library is probably the only one of its kind in all of South Tyrol. A huge amount of picture books on a wide variety of themes are spread throughout the building. Whether it is film, music, photography or architecture, art, travel or cars, fashion or comics, the selection available seems just endless.

And each week new publication upon new publication are added. You might almost wish for a rainy day in sun-blessed South Tyrol, just so you can really browse. And in the background – the most laidback music vibes this side of the Alps. Hotel boss Florian Gartner sees to that himself! It just doesn’t get any cooler!

Photos by Daniele Barraco

Italian star photographer Daniele Barraco is a personal friend of the Gartner family. His portraits of Punk icon Iggy Pop, the Rock star Zucchero, actors including Willem Defoe and John Malkovich and many other photos adorn numerous walls in the Gartner. So, so hip…

La bocca “Dark lady”

The ‘Bocca’ sofa by the famous furniture label Gufram was designed in 1970 by architects from the legendary Studio 65. The producers were inspired by Salvador Dali’s installation which was based upon the female Hollywood star Mae West. The rest is design history. A part of this now lives on in the ‘Gartner’.

Big mamma and Serie Up 2000

The cosy armchair which also goes by the name ‘Blow up’, is a true style icon in the design realm. Created by Italian architect Gaetano Pesce in 1969, the chair has anatomical features. The image of cosiness and comfort overlaps with the female body. Crazy, aesthetic and cosy!

“Il piede”

Also by Gaetano Pesce is ‘Il piede’, created by the architect for the furniture company ‘B&B’. The huge sculpture was created in 1968. Pesce took inspiration for it from the foot of Emperor Konstantin in the Capitoline Museum in Rome.

Gartners Rooms & Suites
Modern design, stylish ambience and fine materials joint with harmony and great care: the precious wooden elements and the noblest materials coin the exclusive atmosphere of the individually design rooms. The wide glass surfaces and the spacious terraces on the roof grant inspiring experiences with all weather conditions.

The unique view over the surrounding mountains that inebriates you during the day turns into a starry scenery after sunset. Enjoy the night in our hotel with a gourmet dinner, a good cigar and a superb glass of wine. The keys of your room open the doors to your personal corner of paradise and invite you to dream of a wonderful holiday in South Tyrol.

According to numerous expert analyses, hotel guests across the globe place a great deal of emphasis on having a comfortable bed. Cosy mattresses are number 1 in the list of guest requirements.

This year we have once again really taken this trend into account. In the past year, a guest staying in the Gartner has been able to choose from a selection of pillows and now there are also toppers of the highest quality.

Dining
The ‘Gartner’ has a considerable role to play among the leading gourmet addresses in South Tyrol. The young squad headed by Toque-awarded chef Matthias Huber inspires hotel guests with a very contemporary and exceptionally creative cuisine, prepared using regional produce.

Our guests dine either in the winter garden restaurant ‘The view’, in the dining hall ‘The Taste’ or in ‘The Stube’. At lunch time our guests chill on the wood terrace in the lounge, enjoying casual bistro dishes. For an aperitif and after dinner the terrace is a much-used meeting point. Stylish, traditional, elegant, hip,…In the Gartner there are almost no limits to well-being!

Shake, shake, shake…
Cool music, fresh cocktails, relaxed atmosphere… The bar at the Hotel Gartner with barman Michael is the perfect location to let oneself be inspired by the “Lust for Life” during the day but above all after dinner.

The author of the homonymous song, the punk icon Iggy Pop, looks at the bar from a big photo with a very particular glaze. Do you think he wants to tell you something…?

New spirits and old bottles…
Young minds meet old masters. This is the best way to describe Gartner’s wine list. South Tyrol’s young cellarers supply our cellar with their newest creations, while vintage wines mature in the cellar waiting to be tasted. An intriguing offer that copes with the most demanding claims.

Palpable relaxation
Let us talk briefly about our famous ‘Specials’, which really ought not to be lacking on any hotel site. Offers upon offers upon offers … often space fillers, rarely No.1 winners. In the Gartner we prefer proper hits. You know what we mean. ‘Special’ translates as exceptional. Just like the Gartner! So, let’s proceed and be ‘special’ together!

SPA & Wellness Sensation
It’s time for relaxation in the wellness hotel, the Gartner, in South Tyrol. And little wonder given the offer! In the classic ‘SILVER SPA’ the steam bath, Finnish sauna and salt-water pool inspire, whereas anyone who wants to take relaxation up a level should take a seat in the extravagant ‘Guest Nest’.

In the ‘arty’ whirlpool, nestling in the repurposed branches of an old pine tree you get to sit, in the truest sense, above it all. The new White SPA House, an architectural gem knows how to inspire with its breath-taking, panorama sauna, which is completely designed in black, an innovative snow sauna along with a superb, huge relaxation room with open fire, juice bar and library.

The crowning glory is the superb SKY Pool on the uppermost storey of the new building. The entire offer provides a superb wellness experience!

Gartner’s Wellness & Fitness programme
There is no shortage of sport and fitness options available in the ‘Gartner’ either. Whether it is in the new fitness studio which has views across the entire valley basin, in Gartner’s Park or in the relaxing Yoga room, the opportunities to do your body a bit of good are almost inexhaustible. Our Sauna Masters provide various different offers for your personal well-being.

SPA & Beauty treatments
In the new White SPA House, an architecturally impressive building with a variety of wellness facilities, our staff Lisa and Denise look forward to welcoming you.

Whether it is facial treatments or stimulating lymph massages, pedicures and manicures, several classic or special healing massages – the opportunities to forget everything around you and enjoy some long-lasting pampering really are very beneficial and exceptionally versatile.

Snow Room
Winter wonderland in summer? Snowfall when the sun is shining? A well-being ambience with a temperature of -10 degrees? In the Gartner’s new, unique ‘Snow sauna’ these unusual experiences are not a utopia, they are cold, hard facts. An unforgettable experience for sports fans, wellness aficionados and health fanatics. ‘Do it and don´t forget it’, is the maxim here!

Saunas
Have you ever got undressed 10 metres up, in a completely glazed room and gazed out over a fantastic mountain realm, really sweated it all out and at the same time still had the feeling of having enjoyed a unique lifestyle experience? No? Well, in the Gartner’s XL panorama sauna in the prize-awarded ‘White SPA building’ you will enjoy just that.

The special thing about it – aesthetics meet extravagance meets relaxation. However, the Gartner wouldn’t be the Gartner if there were not any exciting alternatives. Our salt-water grotto, Turkish steam bath and the private sauna in the classic ‘SILVER SPA’, the spacious whirlpool and the cosy relaxation rooms provide ideal settings for all wellness individualists.

Pools
Look, enjoy, be amazed, in the truest sense, standing above it all … the unbelievable Infinity Pool on the uppermost floor of the new SPA building makes all this possible. Heated to a comfortable 34 degrees, this ‘swimming viewing point’ tempts you to really stay a while.

Sports fans are well catered for in the 22m hotel pool in the middle of the Mediterranean designed Gartner Park. The various neck jets and bubble benches go one step further to making you feel really great in the lovely warming water (30 – 32 degrees).

Thalgo Anti-Ageing Spiruline Boost
Spirulina boost contains an algae complex and Marine Magnesium which forms an invisible protective film on the surface of the skin.

This true “shield” protects the skin from external stress factors and works to prevent skin ageing. Spirulina (algae) is rich in beta-carotene, essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll and removes toxins while peeling this effective special mask.

Love Your Age
Collagen stimulators improve skin density, have a plumping effect and make happy! Fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed. The depth of wrinkles is minimized; the connective tissue will become stronger.

Culture, Shopping & Lifestyle
The village of Tirolo is a true jewel embedded in the Italian Alps. Thanks to its good position above Merano and its mild Mediterranean climate, Tirolo has always been a favourite holiday resort and place of residence. Its several historical sights testify its long and eventful past.

Directly from the village centre a unique panoramic path offering a beautiful view on Merano and the Adige Valley takes visitors to one of the best preserved examples of medieval architecture: the ancestral Castle of Tyrol, which gave its name to the entire region.

The Castle hosts the provincial museum of history and culture providing an overall view about the early settlers of this alpine region. In close vicinity you will find the Bird Care Centre which offers pure wildlife adventure and spectacular daily flight shows.

Vibration & Silence…
Sport, hiking, eating, drinking, shopping or just letting your mind unwind in a country were the gods seem to have been in a particularly good mood. The range of holiday offers available in Merano and the surrounding area is as variety-packed and diverse as the landscape itself.

Not many visitors in Meraner Land know what is happening away from the mainstream holiday agendas, yet the extensive cultural programme in the most northerly province in Italy is something to be appreciated.

Boundless swimming fun
Almost every hotel has one. Some are round, some are very long, some have amazing forms. “This is not enough for our guests”, we thought. And thus concluded an exceptional arrangement. In the warm season the sluices to the outdoor pool of Tirolo open themselves to Gartner’s guests. And the hit is: the access to the public pool is free of charge!

Besides our own fantastic 22×5 large pool, you have at your disposal further extraordinary alternatives! For frogmen, families and people looking for ultimate relief and refreshment. Well, take the plunge and enjoy these pools with a view!

At the entrance of the town, Tirolo’s public swimming pool “Lido Wasserpark” with its white and pink marbles and the 33-meter long and 15-meter large pool is untypical and somehow unique. Built in the style of a Roman thermal bath, it offers an amazing panoramic view as well as real relaxation and water enjoyment.

Dolomiti Golf Club
The Dolomiti Golf Club golf course is considered one of the most difficult 18-hole courses in the Dolomiti Mountains. It is also considered an extremely beautiful setting encircled by the incomparable majesty of the Dolomiti and the Maddalene mountain chain.

Tirolo Castle
Those who enjoy walks and culture could follow the castle trail from the town centre to Tirolo Castle, which the town is named after.

The castle accommodates the state museum for history and in the bird care centre right next door you can gaze in wonder at the ‘kings of the skies’ and be amazed by the aerial acrobatics of these creatures during the flight demonstrations.

Cool excursion destinations
Very close to Tirolo is the fantastic ‘Knottnkino’, in which the same film is shown daily, that is, the stunning panoramic views to Merano and the surrounding mountains.

An excursion into the extensive hiking area of Merano 2000 and its attractive Alpine inns and traditional mountain guesthouses, and the wonderful Vigiljoch, where you feel as though you have been transported back to a time long past, is almost a ‘must-do’ as part of a hiking holiday in Design hotel Gartner in South Tyrol.

So too are extended strolls along the centuries old open irrigation canals known as the ‘Waalen’. Sports-oriented people, hikers, walkers. Everyone truly is well-catered for in this area!

Hochmuth cable car
The Hochmuth cable car provides access to the superb Texelgruppe and is close to the Hotel Gartner in Tirolo. The Meraner Höhenweg trail, one of the most attractive hiking routes in the Alps, is accessible too. There is now an almost unlimited amount of hiking options available to you. The principle ‘The sky is the limit’… seems to have been invented here.

Thermal baths of Merano
Right in the city centre of Merano there is now a paradise for those who love water and its beneficial effects: the new Merano Thermal Baths.

In their avant-garde look they offer pure wellbeing on a surface of 7.650 sq m. 25 pools, 8 saunas and steam baths, a modern fitness centre, an innovative spa & vital centre and a comfortable bistro provide relaxation and rejuvenation for body, mind and soul.

Shopping
On this southern peninsula everyone is at home – the Armanis, Dolce Gabbanas , Versaces and Guccis of this world. South Tyrol and its two biggest towns of Merano and Bolzano can definitely compete with these shopping Meccas. In the arcades of these towns you will come across countless boutiques providing superb shopping opportunities.

But it is not just the fashion boutiques that capture the attention of shoppers from near and far. There are also decor boutiques, furniture shops, South Tyrolean handcrafts and the list goes on.

However, the perennial favourite among visitors to Merano and the surrounding area is the variety-packed gastronomic offer available in South Tyrol… Bacon, sausages, cheeses, ‘Schüttelbrot’ and above all else the world-famous South Tyrolean wines are, in the truest sense, on everyone’s lips. Indeed, those gifts to take back home are likely already sorted out.

Visitors to the Hotel Gartner in Tirolo are in the very best of hands when it comes to shopping. Mr and Mrs Gartner are keen fashion lovers and have even thought about some personal shopping plans for hotel guests. Exciting, variety-packed, new… You will want for nothing when it comes to shopping!

Hiking tours in our surrounding
The picturesque village of Tirolo represents an ideal starting point for walks and hikes in the surrounding area. 70 km of marked hiking trails invite you to explore the unspoiled nature from the valley to the sunny slopes of the Küchelberg hill at 600 m of altitude and further on to the Spronser lakes situated at 2,500 m.

In a single day you can admire the beautiful orchards and vineyards of the valley floor, the green alpine meadows, the romantic mountain huts together with clear lakes and snow-covered mountains. The nearby Nature Park Texelgruppe – the biggest of all South Tyrolean Nature parks – exhibits one of the most beautiful landscapes of the region.

Trauttmansdorff
As a holiday destination Tirolo provides pleasurable variety within a compact radius of just 20 km. In Obermais, on the route from Tirolo to Merano, are the Botanic Gardens, which are among the “loveliest gardens” of their kind in all of Europe.

In the midst of these huge gardens lies Trauttmansdorff Castle, the former spa town of Austrian empress Sissi and the interesting and variety-packed tourism museum, which features informative and completely innovative aspects of contemporary history.

Here 80 garden realms come together in ideal climatic conditions. A few years ago the facilities were named Italy’s loveliest gardens and in 2006 were also named among the loveliest gardens in Europe.

Outstanding bike holiday in Tirolo
In the past few years hardly any other sport has experienced such a boom in Meraner Land as cycling has. Whether it is leisurely family excursions on E-Bikes, exciting tours by mountain bike in the mountains and woodlands in the Alps, speedy downhill descents for adrenaline junkies – cycling has become the number 1 sport in many countries.

Where else better to indulge this passion than in South Tyrol, with its exciting natural surroundings, extensively developed cycle routes and superb trails set in the midst of a spectacular landscape. Guests in the Design hotel Gartner in Tirolo will come across fantastic conditions for a really wonderful cycling holiday.

You can head out into the Meraner mountains straight from the hotel. From the Gartner’s bicycle store head straight to the Hochmuth cable car and get going!

Those who prefer things to be a little less strenuous will be enjoy the many and varied excursion opportunities available in the surrounding area, for instance the bike route to nearby Passeier Valley and through the orchards in the Vinschgau.

Once you have finished (sport) work, the wonderful gardens in the hotel, the various swimming pools and the new ‘White SPA House’ are tempting. While in the evening the service and team of chefs ensure that the exertions of the day are quickly forgotten.
