Embedded in a picturesque mixed forest and hilly landscape, you will feel the special atmosphere when bathing, walking, observing and relaxing. At the big Lake Monticolo there is also an adventure pool, “Lido Montiggl” with the longest water slide in South Tyrol.

Sun-spoiled wine village
Since the oldest wine village in South Tyrol is located at an altitude of 435 m, thus higher than the neighbouring villages, the sun in Girlano shines longer. This is of great advantage especially for the numerous wine farmers, who produce noble wines from sun-ripened grapes. For this reason, the village features the highest density of wineries.
The many events on the topic of wine, which take place throughout the course of the year, will soon convince you about the importance of wine in Girlano. Part of these events is for example the Cellar Festival, which is organised every four years and gives visitors the opportunity to discover the village with all its wine cellars underground.
In October, the end of harvest is celebrated with the last “load of grapes”. The last load of grapes is driven to the village square, where the vines are pressed in a traditional wine press. Another event that you should not miss out on, is the Martini Market on the 11th of November.
In addition to the celebrations in honour of the church patron, the wine farmers also celebrate the end of harvest on this day. Girlano has lots to offer for pleasure guests and culture lovers, but also for the sporty. The surrounding nature landscape provides perfect conditions for numerous leisure time activities.
Between vineyards & orchards
Appiano is actually not a town on its own. It comprises 9 villages, each of which is individual and beautiful. The main village is S. Michele. The big market community is one of the areas with the most castles in Europe, and the home of more than 200 culture-historic sites like castles, palaces, churches and chapels.
Many of these culture sites can be visited during a beautiful hike. Some castles also provide the setting for concerts and theatres. Wine growing is at the centre of attention in Appiano, and the surrounding landscape is also characterised by this sector.

Visit the regional capital: Bolzano
The regional capital is about 7 km from Girlanerhof, and definitely worth a visit. Nowhere else do Mediterranean and Alpine lifestyle, traditions and modern trends merge as clearly.
The city with 100,000 inhabitants is known for its different attractions, cultural offers, expert trade fairs and museums like the Museum of Archaeology hosting Ötzi, or the Museion, the Museum of Modern Art. We’d also recommend a walk through the picturesque old town with the traditional fruit market or a shopping tour amongst the numerous chic boutiques.
