THE REINSWALD HIKING AREA
Treat yourself to a wonderful summer holiday in the mountains in South Tyrol in 2018! Time for hikes, time for adventure. Our motto is “the walk is the goal”. Explore awe-inspiring natural scenery, starting right from our hotel near Bolzano.

Why go far when beauty is one step away? Enjoy a walk through the Reinswald hiking area. There is a network of 200 kilometres of trails, leading you to discover ancient masi, idyllic mountain pastures, crystal clear lakes, dense forests and majestic peaks.

That’s why we regularly take you to higher realms. You will be accompanied by hiking guide Sepp, who knows the Val Sarentino like the back of his hand and has lots of stories and anecdotes to tell. Join him on an exploration tour and experience exciting hikes to rustic huts. Once there, you’ll be spoiled with traditional dishes that taste even better in the fresh air!

Get your bike, hop on, and push those pedals. High altitude trails, cosy mountain huts, challenging passes and scenic bike paths are waiting for you. During the tours, you will encounter a great variety of landscapes.

HIKING IN THE VAL SARENTINO ALPS
In the Sarentino Valley, hiking is a kind of national sport. Not without reason: After all, every path leads us in the mountains. To find the right way, we have listed the most beautiful routes, excursion destinations and insider tips.

Starting with simple walks and chilling hikes to challenging summit climbs. So, go ahead, lace up your mountain boots and conquer the Sarentino Valley!

Trek to Cima San Giacomo

• Difficulty: difficult
• Distance: 15,5 km
• Vertical climb: 1230
• Max. height: 2739 m

At Valdurna – Durnholz (car park; from Bolzano, junction for Campolaste-Astfeld) we will drive along the lake; at the junction we will take route 16, going up through the forest and passing the Seebbachalm alpine hut.

Walking across grazing land, mountain pines, boulders and scree we reach the Flaggerscharte Col, the lake and refuge (2,481 m, open in summer; approx. 3 hours).

We will continue southwards on a marked path among boulders and scree and around the Lorenzenspitze, and eventually walk up to the cross on the summit (2,741 m, 1 hour from the refuge). Return via the same route (2.5 hours).

Sarntaler Weisshorn

• Difficulty: moderate
• Distance: 10,8 km
• Vertical climb: 610 m
• Max. height: 2654 m

From Penser Joch (2214 m, “Alpenrosenhof” mountain restaurant, road crossing between Sterzing in the upper Valle Isarco and Pens in the Sarn valley), follow marking 12A throughout, starting off westward on a wide path to the small Penser Joch lake, from here uphill on a good and safe mountain track, then (with minor altitude variations) across steep, south-facing slopes in westerly direction to the Dolomite boulder area above the Steinwandsee, briefly up to the Gerölljoch, then right on to an exposed rocky path which is, however, mostly fitted with ropes (still following marling 12A) through the mountain’s rocky, very steep southern flank straight up to the summit ridge, finally right to the nearby summit cross (2705 m, 2:30 hrs. from Penser Joch).

For the return to Penser Joch best to follow the described route (around 2 hrs.); however, a descent to Weissenbach is an option, but with very steep sections below the Gerölljoch.

SKI RESORT
Only 100 steps! That’s the distance that separates us from the Reinswald ski lift. Vonn, Svindal, Ligety, Paris, Fill and Innerhofer: they all know the merits of the Val Sarentino trails and feel right at home along the 22-kilometre descent, just like the national teams of Italy, Germany, Austria, Sweden and the USA. Spend a week on the snow week at Reinswald in the Sarentino Valley and follow in the footsteps of skiing champions!

Do you want to carve the snow dunes on a sled? Then the Reinswald area is perfect for you. In addition to a 4.5 km track, there is an area especially dedicated to this exciting activity. In South Tyrol’s first sledding park, you can slide on the mantle of snow like a true professional. Don’t fret, we will find the ideal travel buddy for your downhill runs!

Here at Reinswald, fun on the snow is for everyone, without any distinction of age or level. There is a ski school for those taking their first steps on the slopes. In addition, children up to 8 years of age ski free of charge, while reductions are offered for young skiers up to 18 years of age. Book your week on the snow at Reinswald in Val Sarentino!

ALPINE AND REFUGE HUTS
Walk through snow-covered forests as the sun glints between the fir trees, inhale the resin-scented winter air and climb up onto the high-level trails where magnificent panoramas open up. Sunny, well-tended family routes lead up to the dairy huts with their wonderful views over the Dolomites.

A CULT EXPERIENCE!
During an aperitif, you easily lose sight of time. What would summer be without a refreshing outdoor drink? The best place for this is Bolzano, South Tyrol’s capital, 25 minutes away.

In addition to walking under the porticos and along the Talvera, you can enjoy a peculiar blend between Hugo and Heavy Metal. It’s true! The archaeological museum, made famous by the iceman Ötzi, offers a cult appointment during the summer season.

MEN OF STONE
Many myths and legends revolve around these mysterious figures. Called “Stoanernde Mandln” by the locals, it is said that here, at 2,000 meters of altitude, they celebrated witches. Fall under the spell of this magical place in the Sarentino Alps!

PARAGLIDERING
The dream of flying is without doubt part of human history. Who has not yet dreamed of gliding high above meadows, treetops and houses – as silent and gentle as a bird? The only thing you can feel is the wind in your face.

THE LAKE IS THE NEW SEA
We will say it again: the sea is old news! Prepare your fishing gear and head for Valdurna Lake at 1,545 meters above sea level. After spending relaxing moments on this beautiful lake, you can enjoy a pleasant walk around it in one hour. The water is too cold for swimming. You don’t believe it? Well, dip your finger in and let us know.

NIGHT SLEDDING
Do you love sledding? Then listen up! Once a month, on the 4.5km track at Reinswald, the spotlights go on. It’s time for moonlight sledding! The cable car for small and large sleds will be open from 7 pm to 9:30 pm.

DANCING ON ICE
Come and experience a unique sensation! The sun on your face, the ice under your feet and snow as far as the eye can see: at Lake Valdurna, you can glide on the ice or cultivate your passion for hockey on the smooth surface of 13 hectares.
