A generation built on happiness
Maria Glück Gius and her husband Arthur were the second generation of the “Glück” family – Glück in German means happiness – to run the eponymous village bakery in Kaltern. For many years Glück’s was the place for villagers to buy their fresh bread rolls and sweet pastries.
But in 1965 a property came up for sale on the South Tyrolean Wine Route, not far from Lake Kaltern. Maria and Arthur built their Pension GIUS there and thus realised their small (yet great) dream, a dream of “Glück” in the truest sense.
They ran the GIUS successfully together until their daughter Gerda took up her role as hotelier. The pension had in the intervening years indeed developed into a hotel – a 4-star establishment with a 5-star atmosphere.
The way to new holiday vistas
Today Gerda and her daughter Vera work together to guide their little GIUS brand world – GIUS La Residenza, GIUS La Diffusa and GIUS La Nonnaglück – to new holiday vistas.
They love constantly applying their aesthetic sense to the redesigning and redeveloping of their daily working environment as they live the tourism concept they themselves have developed – 100%.

Kaltern – the wine village on the lake
While the winegrowing landscape wraps itself in the hues of the season, the lake remains a constant in the ever-changing spectrum of colour. Here, in South Tyrol’s south, where wine is truly at home, is also where happiness lives.
All close to the goings-on
From La Residenza it is not far to the centre of the wine village of Kaltern, where the GIUS La Diffusa boutique apartments also welcome their guests in exclusive, charming style – a special retreat for you, yet right in the centre.
Kaltern’s market place pulses with life, the backdrop to festivals, events, ice cream in summer and clinking glasses all year round. The church tower contemplates the proceedings, watches over the village life, with its clock reminding us to enjoy the moment and fix it as a memory in both head and heart.

Before you know it you are in the regional capital of Bozen, at once closer to the heart of Italy. But sometimes it is enough to know that the opportunity is there! Kaltern and its surroundings have plenty to delight travellers – and keep them there!
