A retreat in the middle of the city, noble, elegant and lovingly maintained down to the smallest detail. All around, an imposing garden park with centuries-old trees that block out any thoughts of everyday life like a protective wall. This is Castel Rundegg – a place with historical flair and modern accents. A place where you are allowed to “be human” and feel completely free of any etiquette.

When the elegance of a historic castle is combined with the freshness of lived hospitality at eye level, something extraordinary is created: An unmistakable cocktail that inspires the senses and awakens pleasant feelings of happiness. A successful symbiosis that makes every guest a welcome friend and gives them unforgettable holiday moments.

Celebrate your love: With a candlelight dinner in the castle garden! So romantic – a dinner for two in the castle garden of Castel Rundegg! A festively set table, dignified lighting, the concert of nature and of course an exquisite menu that beguiles the senses – what more do you need to celebrate love properly! Talk to us, we will organise everything so that your surprise will be an absolute hit.

ROOMS & SUITES
Simply royal, the rooms and suites at Schlosshotel Rundegg with the flair of times gone by, coupled with modern comfort! Each suite, each room unique! Spacious, stylish and only 30 in total. No two are the same. Each one is unique. Just as a castle should be. But they all have one thing in common: the extraordinary cosiness that tempts you to stay and feel good.

No wonder that the former lord of the castle, Baron Bernhardus Paravizini von Capelli von Trahora, reached the proud age of 104! He must have felt just as comfortable in the chambers of Castel Rundegg as our guests do today. Even if it was probably not quite as comfortable then as it is now.

But the seductive charm of the old walls, this unique flair and this positive energy have shaped and continue to shape the character of the house since time immemorial. Click through our rooms and suites and choose your personal favourite room – because one thing is certain: no two are alike and each one has its own special character.

TOWER SUITE
In the highest tower of the castle, accessible only via a narrow spiral staircase, lies one of our most beautiful and romantic suites: The Tower Suite with a magnificent all-round view over the rooftops of the spa town of Merano and the Merano countryside. The elegant, authentic suite is the perfect love nest for those who want to celebrate their love in a very special way.

SUITE
With a whole eight (!!!) windows, our suite is flooded with light like no other! Just imagine: You just sit by the window, on a super-comfy armchair, and enjoy the fantastic view of the park and the Merano mountains, creating many an exciting mental cinema… What a view! A complete pleasure!

JUNIOR SUITE
Live like Princess Elisabeth – and enjoy maximum privacy paired with stylish togetherness: romantics who like a few moments to themselves in between will find the perfect holiday home in the Elisabeth Suite with two separate, elegantly furnished rooms. By the way, the Elisabethsuite is our quietest room and offers a great view of the castle park!

DELUXE ROOM WITH GARDEN
End a wonderful holiday day in your own garden with a good glass of wine or a refreshing summer cocktail, listen to nature’s evening concert and breathe in the full scent of the beautiful flowers – that’s how a holiday should be! Our deluxe room is the perfect holiday home for nature lovers.

DINING
Imagine sitting at a finely laid table in the palace garden, listening to the concert of the birds and taking in the colourful splendour of the magnificent garden…

Is there a more beautiful setting for a stylish dinner on a balmy summer evening? Hardly! Whereby… the elegant, historically inspired dining room is in no way inferior… Wherever you dine at Castel Rundegg, it will be an experience for all the senses. That’s a promise!

South Tyrol has so much to offer! There is virtually no mass production here. Especially in recent years, many farmers and producers have specialised in very special niche products. For example, the cultivation of almost forgotten types of fruit and vegetables or the keeping of special breeds of cattle or chicken.

It is precisely with such farmers that we predominantly work. Because only the best is good enough for our guests! Not only the quality and taste of these products are unique, but also arguments regarding sustainability, regionality and the promotion of local agriculture speak for cooperation with local farms.

WELLNESS
Castel Rundegg is one of the absolute pioneers of medical spa hotels and hosts prominent guests today, as it did then, who appreciate the unique privacy and caring, individual attention. The close cooperation between doctors, masseurs, therapists and aestheticians guarantees a holistic feel-good concept, sophisticated spa programmes and targeted therapies.

The know-how of the kitchen team, the attentive and discreet service and the authentic flair of the rooms and suites round off the whole and make your time out at Schlosshotel Rundegg an experience of complete relaxation, regeneration and – last but not least – absolute happiness.

DRAINING TREATMENT
Lightness and well-being are the results of this de- congestive body treatment. It promotes lymphatic and venous circulation and strengthens the vascu- lar walls. A special mud mixture reduces swelling and a feeling of heaviness in the legs.

ALPINE HAY BATH
Relaxing steam bath with organic hay from the Passeir mountain pastures. Lie on a bed of warm hay and dream. For a holistic well-being that relaxes and soothes.

KNEIPP BATH
Cold and warm contrast bath for arms and feet according to Kneipp: it promotes the blood circulation, regulates body temperature, acts anti- inflammatory, remedies insomnia and calms the nervous system.

HOT STONE MASSAGE
Warmth and wellbeing for body and soul: during a hot stone massage, pleasantly warm lava stones transfer all their power to the body. They warm it gently, make tension disappear in no time and promote blood circulation. The self-healing powers are activated and you experience a state of complete relaxation, which lingers for a long time.

RASUL HAMAM
Whether as a couple or alone: In our Private SPA you can enjoy wonderfully relaxing hours with oriental peeling and Vichy shower, mud pack in the steam bath and a gentle massage. All this surrounded by slumber light and soft fragrances. We will prepare prosecco and a fresh fruit for you. A special experience.

THE OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL
A wellness hotel with an extensive garden park without an outdoor pool? Unthinkable! Castle owner David thought so too and used the winter break of 2021/22 to dig a beautiful pool with whirlpool area in the middle of the idyllic garden. The result is something to behold!

The outdoor pool, newly built in 2021 in the heart of the magnificent garden park, is as elegant as the Castel Rundegg! Whether after a hike or bike tour in South Tyrol’s mountains, a varied city trip or simply to relax for a day on holiday: The outdoor pool at Castel Rundegg is made for it!

THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL
Dive in, dive down, let yourself drift, relax, enjoy…. Smile and exhale deeply. That’s how wonderfully relaxing it feels when you enjoy the peace and quiet on a lounger by the indoor pool at Castel Rundegg.

Bright and flooded with light, the indoor pool presents itself with its authentic charm. It’s a pleasant place to regenerate – for a whole holiday day between sauna, massage or wellness treatment, but also just for a few hours after an eventful day in the mountains and towns of South Tyrol.

THE GYM
The best time to start fitness training? Right now! Because physical training is simply part of a balanced lifestyle. That’s why you shouldn’t have to do without it even on holiday: In our fitness room you will find everything you need for your workout. And if “now” is not the right time after all, then why not start here with us, at Castel Rundegg!

MERANO & SOUTH TYROL
Stroll through the idyllic, medieval alleys of Merano, admire magnificent Art Nouveau buildings two streets away and live the modern lifestyle at the same time…

A holiday in Merano is so colourful and versatile, so varied, invigorating, exciting, beneficial, so… happy! And the Castel Rundegg is the ideal holiday home for all those who are looking for something special away from the hustle and bustle and yet right in the middle of the action.

Because on holiday in Merano you don’t have to do without anything, really nothing! Hiking and biking at all altitudes and levels of difficulty, attending top-class musical performances and cultural events, strolling through the alleys and letting yourself be swept away by the charm of the historic town on the River Passer, relaxing with a cappuccino or an aperitif, immersing yourself in Merano’s eventful history in one of the museums and experiencing contemporary history up close, letting yourself be seduced by the excellent cuisine… whatever you feel like doing, Merano offers it!

Anyone who has ever been to Merano knows: the mountain world is overwhelming! And the best thing is: you don’t have to be an experienced professional hiker to enjoy nature and the mountains to the full.

Because on the one hand, the countless panoramic paths and spa promenades with the varied vegetation, the various art installations and viewpoints as well as rest areas are an absolute highlight and easily manageable even for casual hikers.

And on the other hand, the various cable cars and public transport take you high up into the mountains, from where again leisurely hiking trails start. Of course, a stop at one of the idyllic alpine huts is not to be missed!

If you prefer a more challenging hike, the Merano mountains are of course also the right place for you! The best thing is to talk to us on the spot, we have lots of tips in store for you!

SIGHTSEEING IN MERANO
The Merano Kurhaus, the medieval arcades, the botanical gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and the Merano Thermal Baths are among Merano’s most famous sights. But beyond that, there is so much more to discover! Click through, we have put together some of the most interesting ones for you.

From the lost crown prince to fine dining in the dungeon and the border to Africa: Merano is full of surprises, secrets and anecdotes. Did you know that one of them is even here with us at Castel Rundegg? Yes, you have read correctly!

The owner of the house, David, is a passionate pigeon breeder, just like Emperor Franz Josef was. We will gladly tell you what fascinates them so much about these animals.

Of course, these are not the usual pigeons, but the graceful Viennese high-flying pigeon. The special feature? After the pigeon sting, as the morning release is called, the Viennese high-flying pigeon climbs up to 2,000 metres in the air, stays there for about 2 hours and then returns to the pigeon loft.

The ascent takes place in figure-eight curves with the rhythm changes usually happening in waltz time, making their flight seem so graceful. You can admire this spectacle in the Rundegg every morning during breakfast. Now you probably want to know what the lost prince, the dungeon and the African border are all about, right? We’ll be happy to tell you that, too…

THE LOST CROWN PRINCE
Nearby, below the valley station of the Merano 2000 cable car, the son of Empress Sisi, Prince Rudolf, climbed a steep rock on Easter Sunday in 1858. Rumour has it that his father had a glass of wine or two in the hermit’s inn and at some point the prince got bored, so he made his way home alone and got into this predicament.

After hours of trepidation, he was finally heard by the farmer’s wife Karolina Winkler, who freed him at a late hour. Even today, a marble plaque – formerly attached directly to the rock, today on the footpath below – commemorates this incident.

THE OBERMAIS VILLAGE FOUNTAIN
You don’t have to walk far at all to come across one of Merano’s landmarks: the Obermaiser Brunnenplatz. It takes its name – of course – from the village fountain, which has always been the centre of Merano’s impressive villa district.

Mentioned in a document as early as 1495, the fountain has lived through an eventful history, has been replaced several times by a new one and has already caused quite a stir among the people of Obermais in the new millennium.

The old granite fountain had to make way for a new, sarcophagus-like fountain, which the citizens did not like at all and which was replaced by today’s beautiful fountain in 2015 thanks to their commitment. Our tip: Enjoy a refreshing drink in one of the cafés on the square and soak up the authentic flair.

THE PARISH CHURCH OF MERANO
As one of the first purely Gothic architectural monuments in Tyrol, Merano’s parish church delights with, among other things, a multitude of valuable frescoes, interesting sculptures and paintings as well as stained glass windows from the late Gothic period.

And the imposing church building in the middle of the old town has yet another special feature to offer: The church tower, visible from afar, has not four clocks as usual, but seven!

After the buildings around it were built higher and higher and the clock was therefore no longer visible, it was decided to simply install additional clocks eight metres above the existing clocks on the three sides facing the city. Thanks to the latest technology, these clocks show the time to the second.

PALAIS MAMMING MUSEUM
Fancy a bit of history? Then a visit to the Palais Mamming Museum is an absolute must! The building itself, a restored Baroque palace, is an absolute dream and the perfect stage for presenting the history of Merano’s development – from prehistory and early history to the modern age.

Even some exotics are at home here, including an Egyptian mummy, the Sudanese weapon collection of the adventurer Slatin Pasha and one of Napoleon’s five death masks.

BIKING
In Merano, every type of biker is guaranteed to get their money’s worth! The network of cycle paths is extremely well developed, specially designated mountain bike routes guarantee absolute riding fun and the necessary safety for bikers and hikers, and the mountain and pass roads are a well-known Eldorado for racing bike riders.

If you want to cycle off the beaten track and experience something special, it’s best to book a bike guide. Talk to us, we will be happy to advise you here at Castel Rundegg.
