A few miles away from Limoges city-centre, enjoy the charm and elegance of a historic House, La Chapelle Saint Martin, set in the middle of a 40-acre park. Owned and designed by Michelin-Star Chef Gilles Dudognon, as an ode to the Limousin, he is redefining French elegance and regional excellence.

This House, which belonged to Porcelain manufacturers in the 19th century, reveals its family’s passion for art and aesthetically pleasing designs. Rare objects, found while bargain-hunting, and unique paintings, have been decorating and inhabiting this property for the past 40 years…

The main House and its outbuildings have been restored with subtilty and elegance… La Chapelle Saint Martin’s 14 bedrooms, 3 of which are Suites and 1 is a Villa, as well as its lounges welcome you to an oasis of parkland, art and Porcelain.

The chef and his team (including a pastry chef) offer a harmonious and classic French cuisine with character, made with the best regional products and sprinkled with inventiveness.

Halfway between Paris and Toulouse, 10 minutes away from Limoges city-centre as well as only 5 minutes away from Limoges Airport, La Chapelle Saint Martin is surrounded by a historic 40-acre park, and only a 2-hour flight from London as well as a 2-hour drive from Bordeaux.

Our luxury countryside property is ideal if you are looking to relax and enjoy Limousin. It is also the perfect stopover on your way to your holiday destination.

History
La Chapelle Saint Martin, with its A-frame roof, going all the way down to the ground, and its 19th century gates, is a listed Historic Monument. This landmark is the inspiration behind the Relais & Châteaux hotel and Michelin-star restaurant, which both bear its name.

The Chapel was built in 1798 by Jacques Joseph, Judge of Saint-Martin, as a sacred place to leave his ancestors’ and descendants’ ashes. All the work that Judge Saint-Martin put into La Chapelle made it the birthplace of forest farming in Limousin.

The 40-acre park is home to two-hundred-year-old ancient trees. The property was purchased by the Dudognon family, restaurant owners in Limoges, in 1963. In 1970, Jacques et Vivianne transformed the main house into a hotel which became, in 1973, member of the Relais & Châteaux association.

The Park
Jacques Dudognon, Gilles’ father, loved gardening and decided to redesign the park in the early 1970s. He first opened a perspective over the back terrace of the House, revealing a large panoramic view of the Limousin’s countryside.

He also redesigned the two water ponds, one of them based on the property’s former fishery. Two 19th century sequoia trees were preserved as well.

The park guides you through a mysterious deep green conifer forest, with tender green booms, and a majestic beech grove invites you to move further away from the main House.

Old oaks then appear, through a beautiful stretch of Limousin heathers, leading guests down towards a small stream and the ponds before discovering La Chapelle’s beehives, shelter to over 500,000 bees (their honey is used by the Chef in his menus, for breakfast and jars can be purchased at reception)

Nature for all ages
La Chapelle Saint Martin will win you over with its pastoral tranquillity and poetic scenery. On your own, with your loved one or your family members, you will fall in love with our park, ponds and the countryside surrounding them.

Whether you prefer walking, swimming or even meditating, take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy these enticing wide open spaces…Our younger guests will marvel at everything our green haven has to offer: a playground, wooden huts, our horses (Bye Bye and Pomerol) and Georges, the family’s dog.

The Pavilion
This villa created in the former stables echoes its past with floors in the lounge made from old Porcelain saggar moulds (from the Ancient Royal Porcelain Factory), raw materials, stones, “Limousin” oak and chestnut tree wood,…

Let yourself be inspired and captivated by this historical and soulful dwelling featuring a large stone fireplace as well as a contemporary and elegant decor.

This Villa is included in Relais & Châteaux’s Villa programme, offering you 120m² of exclusive space, located just 25 meters away from La Chapelle’s main building and restaurant.

This stylish house can accommodate 2 to 6 guests and is perfect for families wishing to stay with us (extra fees apply for bookings of 4 guests or more). It features a large living space with a grand fireplace, a kitchenette and dining space.

On the ground floor, guests will also find a bedroom for 2 (king-size or twin beds available) with a private bathroom and toilets. Upstairs, the 60-square-meter master bedroom offers a walk-in rain shower, large bathtub, a dressing and living spaces.

A private garden with lounge chairs and a fire pit will help guests relax further.

On the second floor of the Main House, overlooking our herb garden, they all feature antique pieces of furniture, a workspace and bathrooms with walk-in rain showers.

Michelin-starred Restaurant
“Traditional gourmet cuisine is the soul of our regions, mushroom picking, gardening, local butchers, friendly hunters, … made it come to life in our homes where we would roast on an open fire for a few guests or for family members. Cooking all through the seasons was a gift from mother Nature and infused our food with authenticity. This philosophy still drives us and what we share in our restaurant today”. (Gilles Dudognon – Chef Owner)

Le Saint-Martin
Our Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant opens out onto the magnificent park of La Chapelle Saint Martin. It comprises 4 elegant and tastefully decorated rooms as well as a large terrasse with unique views of the Limousin countryside.

Drawing from the traditions of a heritage craft, the beauty and delicacy of the restaurant’s plates are an ode to regional artists and factories, including the iconic Bernardaud.

The Chef and his team love cooking local products made with care and savoir-faire: Limousin veal, Cul Noir pork. A hedonistic and sensorial experience to share with your loved one, friends or family members.

Menus
Enjoy a classic French cuisine with strong qualities and a sprinkle of inventiveness. The Chef’s generous and gourmet cuisine is perfect for all occasions: romantic suppers, family celebrations on the terrace, cocktail or garden parties.

The Chef
Gilles Dudognon’s cuisine is characterized by generosity, simplicity as well as his knowledge of products and cooking techniques. His time spent with Jean-Marie Amat, from 1979 to 1983, shaped him into the Chef he is today.

After spending 15 years travelling around France and the world (the Roux brothers in London, Château de Locquénolé in Brittany, the Chiberta in Paris with Philippe Da Silva,…) his efforts and hard work were rewarded with his first Michelin star in 1986, at only 24 years old.

In 1997, he went back to La Chapelle Saint Martin where he took over and became the Head Chef as well as the General Manager. Nowadays, his Michelin star still shines bright on his beloved Limousin.

Gilles Dudognon’s son, Henri, joined the family business in 2019. Father and son are now working side by side, creating and serving a classic French cuisine with strong qualities and a sprinkle of inventiveness.

The Wine Cellar
Our restaurant team and Maître d’Hôtel, Stéphane Briand, are delighted to share with you a selection of the best French wines, including a range from organic vineyards.

We also pride ourselves on our range of natural wines made by craftsmen whose approach is about respecting their lands’ authenticity by working without pesticides, sulphites as well as manually weeding and harvesting their crops.
