We, the hosts at your country hotel and “Most barons”, place an emphasis on regional products. We manage 8 hectares of farmland, produce our own fruit wines and have our own distillery in the RelaxResort.

We contribute to the diversity of the Mostviertel Region – and the region is reflected in our RelaxResort: the carpeting in the hallways with its modern pear pattern, impressions of nature, the room numbers on pear-shaped signs, pear-shaped cupboard handles and tables, showers decorated with blossoming pear trees, regional products at the breakfast buffet.

Enter into our world … The 91 rooms & suites at the RelaxResort Kothmühle are divided between the Main House, the Relax House and the Distillery House, where Grandma Scheiblauer distils fine schapps from selected regional fruit. All the houses are connected to each other and most rooms are wheelchair accessible.

The area of the “MostbaronStube” in the Main House is 700 years old. That’s hard to believe these days because the MostbaronStube has a modern appearance. The Relax House completes our unique oasis of wellbeing with the spa area, MOST RELAX.

History, team & tradition
700 years ago, the Kothmühle was mentioned for the first time. The word “koth” comes from the Celtic language and means “forest”, so “Kothmühle” means the forest mill. We kept the name when the mill came into our family in the 19th century, and as it became a guest house and later a RelaxResort.

The Kothmühle has been a pacesetter in the modern hotel industry for centuries. The staff at the Kothmühle has been an important part of our further development. They are also passionate hosts, just like we are, and are looking forward to your stay at the RelaxResort Kothmühle.

We, Christiane & Johannes Scheiblauer, run the 4-star Hotel Kothmühle as the RelaxResort together with our sister, Maria Schuett, and mother, Marianne. We have been hotel directors for 4 generations.

The next generation, Johannes, Bernhard and Evelyn, is growing up fast and getting ready to successfully take over their parent’s hotel and meet the challenges of their time.

These especially spacious suites are equipped with a tile oven and are perfect for a spa weekend or holiday for lovers. You will find a romantic canopy bed with a cosy sitting area for an enjoyable breakfast in your room.

Stylishly decorated with a tile oven, sitting area, fluffy down duvets, and cherry wood furniture. The bed has a continuous mattress. Toilet and shower/bathtub are separate, hairdryer, internet access, satellite TV, radio, telephone, alarm clock and minibar are part of the amenities.

South-facing with a view of the RelaxGarden, balconies with tables and comfortable sitting area. The room price includes an abundant gourmet fit breakfast and the use of the entire resort for the duration of your spa holiday.

Relax Forest View
The Relax rooms Apple with forest view are worthy of the Mostviertel, near the wellness “Most Relaxed” in country hotel style with lots of oak wood and naturally oiled floor.

The light-flooded double rooms are equipped with a cozy cuddly reading couch and a breakfast table for two. The bed has a continuous mattress. The size of the rooms is 34 m² to 38 m².

With a French balcony and a view of the forest. WC and bathroom with shower device, hair dryer, cosmetic mirror, free WiFi, satellite TV, telephone and minibar in Mostviertel. Thus, these rooms have everything you need for romantic wellness days for two!

Classic double room
The classic plum rooms are kept in bright, lively maple, the new wool carpet is completely natural, the colors are only given by different breeds of sheep.

All rooms have a balcony or a French balcony. WC and shower, hair dryer, satellite TV, radio, telephone and Mostviertel minibar are included in each of our rooms for your wellness break. No dogs allowed.

Dining

Fresh regional ingredients & food intolerances
Our kitchen team focuses on fresh regional ingredients. Homemade marmalades and juices for our breakfast buffet, fresh milk from nearby farmers, selected herbs from our own herb garden, depending on the season for e.g. rose blossom water, balm water, for the salad buffet, to refine dishes.

We are the perry baron!
We are sworn to this goal. The title “Mostbaron”, the ambassador for the local fermented pear juice called perry, is an honour that is only presented to selected people from the Mostviertel region.

It recognizes our special engagement for the region and the production of the fermented pear juice. There are many events surrounding the “Mostbaron” in the Mostviertel region. To the Mostbaron.

Of course, there is a lot to enjoy when visiting a “Mostbaron”. At the RelaxResort Kothmühle you can enjoy gourmet fruit wines and you can purchase them from our selection at the reception desk.

We offer perry tasting with the Mostbaron for groups as well as a perry seminar “Doktor honoris Mosticus” with an entertaining exam and a pear tree rally.

Taste our secrets
The Mostviertel appears to be a single, large garden. Millions of fruits grow on hundreds of thousands of trees in Europe’s largest connected area of fruit trees.

They conceal the secret of our gourmet fruit wines. From the juice of their fruit we gain our excellent, pure fruit wines. Fermented pear juice is our passion. That’s why you won’t find this quality or range of products anywhere else in Europe.

The gourmet fruit wines
The gourmet fruit wines are the pinnacle of the Mostbaron’s work. They redefine quality and taste – fitting for any occasion. From the light and sparkling Brous to the elegant meal companion Preh and the strong Exibatur. Blossom meets freshness.

Brous | Brous [bros], (blossom): This light pear wine satisfies with its mild, fruity character. Grassy note, complemented by citric and blossom aromas that lend the pear wine its youthful liveliness. That’s where the name comes from: Brous – an old Mostviertel term for blossom. The brous is a great aperitif and goes well with antipasti, salads, appetizers and light summer dishes.

Preh | Preh [pre:], (pride): This elegant cuvee from different varieties of pears (the speck pear, stiegl pear, dorsch pear and green pichl pear) captivates with a balanced play between fruit & sourness. Ripe fruits, exotic nuances and echoes of currants and gooseberries let the pride of the region come to life in this fruit wine. Preh means pride in the old Mostviertel dialect. The preh is an excellent complement to all dishes.

Exibatur | Exibatur [exibatur], (plough, agricultural equipment): This weighty pear wine is distinguished by its strong aroma and fresh tartness. Fully ripe notes harmonise with a complex aroma of tannins and reflect the power of the region. Exibatur – an old Mostviertel term for plough – perfectly describes the character of the pear wine. With a multi-layered and powerful aroma, it’s a good match for dark meats and smoked meat products.

Grandma’s schnapps in the Mostviertel
Enjoy homemade fine brandies & schnapps made from the fresh fruit of the Mostviertel. Our senior director, Marianne Scheiblauer, is a master of her trade.

Grandma’s schnapps varieties are a special delicacy in the Kothmühle. When our senior director and perry sommelier, Marianne Scheiblauer, distils the fruits from our farm and other local farms, fine brandies of the highest quality are produced – from apple barrique to elderberry and rowanberry.

Marianne Scheiblauer has received numerous awards for her schnapps – at the “Destillata” and at the “Ab Hof”. Gold, silver, bronze – for your optimal schnapps pleasure. Look forward to them in the RelaxResort Kothmühle. You can try the schnapps specialties in the restaurant and take them home as a souvenir.

Distilling schnapps at the table
One special highlight is our table distillery. You can distil your own schnapps with competent instruction to accompany your 5-course dinner. Sauna landscape & Pools
Our pool in the spa area, with its fountain shower and whirlpool, offers special moments of relaxation. Swim outside into the Mostviertel. Along with the pleasure in the water, a view of the beautiful garden is waiting for you.

In the sauna area, the Mill sauna (“Mühlensauna”) is a real gem. This traditional larch wood hut was carefully taken apart at its original location and authentically rebuilt in our sauna landscape as a Finnish sauna. Now we have a mill with a real mill wheel just as in earlier days.

The heart of our RelaxResort is our RelaxGarden with its natural bathing lake: Refresh here after every sitting in the sauna. That is a true spa holiday in Austria.

Waidhofen

Old-town ambience & coffee houses … a beautiful old town awaits you in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. Marvel at imposing medieval defence towers, Baroque churches, romantic alleys and spacious squares.

Enjoy the old-town ambience, the colourful hustle and bustle at the farmer’s market and in the exclusive specialty shops. Connoisseurs get their money’s worth: cosy guest houses, elegant restaurants and rustic wine taverns entice you with regionally typical specialties and culinary diversity.

The coffee houses in the old town, like the Piaty café & pastry shop and the Hartner bakery, entice you to linger and enchant you with hearty and sweet specialties.

Sonntagberg Basilica

The almost 50km long Panoramic High Trail winds its way along the ridge from the Sonntag Mountain past St. Leonhard am Wald all the way to the Hochkogel Mountain. The best way to explore the Panorama High Trail is on foot, on a bicycle or an e-bike.

The two-towered Baroque church in Sonntagberg, clearly visible from far away, is one of the most beautiful observation points along the Panoramic High Trail and the most important pilgrimage church in the Mostviertel Region.

The frescoes, the treasury and the high altar are especially worth seeing. The Panoramastüberl charms you with typical Mostviertel foods like a fruit wine cream soup and Mostbaronpfandl as well as classic dishes like the Panoramajause.

Seitenstetten Abbey

Embedded in the hilly Mostviertler Landscape, a wide range of culture and history awaits you in “God’s Square”. The garden, art, culture and culinary arts are the defining themes in this imposing monastery.

Along with impressive special exhibits, the breath-taking ensemble of the Abbey with its Baroque Church and art collection, as well as the courtyard with a world-wide one-of-a-kind rose cultivation lure you in.

Treat yourself to a hearty Mostviertel “Brettljause”, (a small meal platter) after your visit at the Mostbaron Pfeiffer in Seitenstetten.

Mostbirnhaus

The MostBirnHaus is the entrance to the Mostviertel Region. Discover everything you need to know about the pears in the Mostviertel and the unique “perry” wine on a playful, multimedia journey.

The entertaining trip takes you through diverse and originally designed stations on the topics of pears, fruit wines and regional culture. In the MostBirnHaus spice shop you can find high-quality fruit wines from the best fruit wine producers in the Mostviertel. Take the time to enjoy them during a tasting.

Mostelleria
This world of fruit wine and spirits is perfectly located in a traditional press house from 1874 in the picturesque town of Öhling. History and production are presented in an interesting fashion.

Discover the characteristics of the MOSTELLO production in the Mostelleria and find out all about the development and the processing of fruit wine. Be a part of the process when liquors and brandies, for example the world’s best vodka, are produced in the show distillery.

Hiking
The Mostviertel offers pleasant trails and enchantment for your senses. Set your sights high with a hike to the top of the Hochkar Mountain where a panorama platform protrudes out of the cliff.

A paradise awaits you directly in front of our door, perfect for a hiking holiday in Austria. Especially in spring, when millions of fruit tree blossoms adorn the landscape, and show the entire splendour of the region. Hiking through this sea of blossoms is pure enchantment for your senses.

The Mostviertel also has other facets: gentle meadows and peaceful forests, deep gorges and roaring waterfalls in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Natural Park, as well as panorama views from the 1,700m high Hochkar.

Nordic Walking
You can start a Nordic walking tour any time directly from the RelaxResort Kothmühle. The tranquil rural area around Neuhofen an der Ybbs is perfect for discovering individual trails. As an alternative, you can take the 5.9km long trail along the orchards and an idyllic stream.

The Nordic walking centre in the Mostviertel is located in Seitenstetten. 60 km of marked Nordic walking trails lead you through the hilly landscape. You can borrow Nordic walking poles at the monastery shop in the Steitenstetten Abbey.

Biking and mountain biking
Relax on your bike during a cycling and mountain biking holiday in Austria. Ride along picture-perfect villages in the Mostviertel and hundreds of thousands of proud pair trees.

Around 700km of marked bike trails take you through the Mostviertel. The numerous bike routes lead you over gentle hills and along roaring rivers to the many attractions in the region.

If you would like a pleasant trip with an electric motor, then use one of our E-bikes for your bike tour through the Mostviertel. They’re waiting for you at the RelaxResort Kothmühle’s charging station. We also have city bikes and mountain bikes on loan for your holiday.

Horseback riding in the Mostviertel
Experience the Mostviertel from a new perspective on peaceful riding paths and learn the correct handling of horses.

Riding is passion. If you want to practice your hobby on holiday and discover the home of the fruit wine barons on the back of a horse… the Kromoser Riding Stables, which also successfully breeds horses, are just 2km away from the RelaxResort Kothmühle.

The Kromoser Family has engaged in warm blood horse breeding for more than 40 years. Since then, more than 120 warm blood foals have been born in their stalls in Lower Austria from first-class brood mares and the very best stallions.

A first-class stud farm
It is a joy to watch the noble animals. Mares and foals and care-free colts graze on the lush horse paddocks next to the stall. The horses enjoy first-class care and constant attention – maybe that’s the secret of the Kormoser horses’ strong characters.

The foals and colts have lots of possibilities for movement and receive a balanced diet. The colts are taken to the mountain pastures in the summer to strengthen their resistance. The horses have been successful as breeding, championship and tournament horses.

Riding lessons & rides in the Mostviertel
The Stables – Stud farm “Ostarrichi” Franz Kromoser in Neuhofen an der Ybbs offers a lunge, track lessons and sociable rides as well as taster rides.

Golfclub Swarco Amstetten in Ferschnitz
You can feel the symbiosis of golf & fruit wine at the Swarco Golf Club’s 18-hole golf course. Complete your round of golf surrounded by the idyllic hills of the Mostviertel. The SWARCO Golf Club Arnstetten is only 9 km away from the RelaxResort Kothmühle.

The designer Francois Bouchard, once a student of Jack Nicklaus, developed a spacious course at the foot of the Alps with rhythmic fairways that integrates the character of the landscape with solitary trees, trenches, crests and forest corners.

Union Golf Club Schloss Ernegg
The UGC Schloss Ernegg golf course has a 9-hole and an 18-hole course on completely level terrain. While playing you are surrounded by the hilly pre-Alpine landscape and the picturesque Ernegg Castle. It’s a beautiful natural course which is in part above the Kleiner Erlauf River.

The spacious fairways and the large greens of the 18-hole course are perfect for beginners. Seasoned golfers will find a challenge in the bunkers and the diffiult water hazards. It’s only 18 km from the RelaxResort Kothmühle to the UNION Golf Club Schloss Ernegg.

Motorcycle holiday in the Mostviertel in Austria
Be in harmony with the landscape. Ride a motorcycle on a remote street. Over magnificent passes. Right through the beautiful Mostviertel Region.

Cross the northeastern part of Austria on your motorcycle. Let the hundreds of fruit trees in the Mostviertel race by. It’s an unforgettable experience especially when the orchards are blooming.

Across the Mostviertel to the Steiermark

The round trip tour is 310 km long and brings you to Leopoldsteiner See, an idyllic mountain lake, to the Steierischen Seebergsattel at 1,121m, which offers a great mountain panorama, and to Lake Erlauf, through which the border to the Steiermark runs.

Romantic Road and the Sengsengebirge

On a tour of approx. 240 km you can experience the beauty of the Romantic road and the Sengsengebirges at the border between Lower and Upper Austria. At the Hengstpass (985 m) you ride along the southern edge of the Limestone Alps National Park.

Attractive stops along the tour include the picturesque town of Steyr at the junction of the Emms and Steyr Rivers, Windischgarten with its baroque townhouses and Weyer, the “Güldene Märktl” with an historic market place near the Egerer Castle.

Through the Mostviertel to the Höllental & Rax

A motorcycle tour through nature: The 310 km long round trip includes Lake Lunzer and Lake Erlauf, the gentle heights of the region (Zeller Rain at 1.125 m, Lahnsattel at 1.015 m, Gscheid at 765 m and Auf dem Hals at 662 m) as well as the curvy Höllental with the side valleys and the limestone massif Rax and provides loads of riding fun.
