At 2222 metres, you’re a lot closer to heaven and in the clear thin air the stars put on their most breathtaking display. Reception holds the key to a heavenly experience.

Feel relaxed in the beneficial mountain climate in the middle of fragrant pine and larch forests and with a spectacular view of the Matterhorn.

Since the 19th century, guests have considered the Riffelalp as an exclusive place for peace and relaxation and they appreciate the diversity between sports activities, pleasant relaxation and the luxurious delights that the Riffelalp Resort 2222m offers.

“A day well spent in the Alps is like some great symphony”, said Mount Everest pionneer George Mallory. The British mountaineer enjoyed the high alpine freshness in the summer and was a five-star guest at Riffelalp high above Zermatt.

Arriving is an experience in itself. As the rack railway climbs and the commotion of the village is left behind, sit back, relax and enjoy the majestic view of the Matterhorn.

In the summer, the highest tram in Europe waits at Riffelalp station to take you on what is probably the shortest tram ride in the world to the Riffelalp Resort.

In the winter, our porter will be happy to pick you up on the skidoo. Or you can make use of the short walk through the picturesque forest to listen to the silence of Riffelalp for the first time.

In the summer, Riffelalp offers a typical Alpine scenery with meadows and cows. The cow kindergarten with the sweet calves is right next to hotel premises all summer long.

In the midst of one of the most beautiful walking, biking and climbing areas in the Alps, the Resort offers a variety of all kinds of activities. In the winter, the Riffelalp Resort is in the middle of the world famous Zermatt ski resort – the ski slopes go directly past the hotel – and is a perfect ski-in, ski-out hotel.

For anyone wanting to go on an excursion to the excitement of Zermatt, the village can be reached with the Gornergrat railway in just 20 minutes. Half-board guests can dine in our partner restaurants in the village.

The hotel’s train brings night owls back to the Riffelalp free of charge until 11.30 pm. Most guests prefer to stay in heaven on earth at 2,222 metres above sea level and enjoy the distance from the rest of the world.

Exclusively for hotel guests
Wine & Dine : enjoy real Japanese cuisine at Restaurant Myoko, the best grills from the charcoal barbecue at “Le Grill” in Mont Cervin Palace, or Italian gourmet dining at Ristorante Capri.

Or travel through time and dine at Restaurant Belle-Époque in Hotel Monte Rosa amidst stucco-ornamented ceilings and walls, crystal chandeliers and historic paintings.

Would you prefer something more rustic but nevertheless stylish? Then “1818 Eat & Drink” is exactly the right place. Our partner company in Zermatt welcomes you warmly.

“Sleep in the heart of Zermatt” – Experience the village of Zermatt up close! With a minimum three-night stay at Riffelalp Resort, you have the possibility, subject to availability, to spend a night in Mont Cervin Palace in the heart of Zermatt. You keep your room at Riffelalp Resort and we look after the transport of your luggage.

In winter, we offer our hotel guests wine tastings several times a week in our Vinothek. Let our Maître d’Hôtel or his assistant take you on a world tour through the wine-growing regions and sample the best drops from our extensive wine cellar.

APARTMENTS
Our holiday apartments combine the privacy of cosy holiday accommodation and the facilities of a luxury hotel – in 120 square metres. The holiday apartments, built in Alpine style, offer a breath-taking view of the Matterhorn and an incredible mountain panorama.

Enjoy the silence at night and relax at the heart of nature. The highest holiday apartments in Zermatt are situated next to the ski slopes and provide an exceptional ski-in, ski-out experience. The apartments have a fully-fitted kitchen, but we recommend you book our apartments with hotel service.

This includes breakfast and evening meal in our restaurants, Wine & Dine in Zermatt, free use of the pool and wellness facilities (from 16 years) and daily cleaning. The means a holiday for the whole family and is a good compromise between privacy and the 5-star service of the restaurants, bar and spa.

Ristorante Al Bosco
The elegant Restaurant with sun terrace. «Italianità under the Matterhorn». The Matterhorn stands on the opposite side of the valley, almost surreal. Both on the sun terrace and inside the cosy restaurant, here you can admire the exceptional view of the famous Swiss mountains and the panorama of the Zermatt.

Right next to the Riffelberg – Schweigmatten ski slope, the Al Bosco is the perfect place in winter to refuel with a hot chocolate or to have a lunch break. In the summer, the sun terrace invites walkers and sun lovers to relax. Over evening dinner, the light and the weather provide a spectacular natural backdrop.

Some mountain restaurants are frequented for their view; others for their food. The Al Bosco fulfils both of these wishes. It promises “Italianità under the Matterhorn”: the Al Bosco is dedicated to the cuisine of the Italian and Swiss Alps. Here, chef Luigi Lafranco and his team conjure up true culinary delights.

The choice consists of uncomplicated Italian classics, such as pasta and risotto, daily specials, a variety of à la carte dishes “dans la cocotte” and highlights such as the legendary Matterhorn Pizza and the Riffelalp “Gamelle”, a hearty soup with spinach, potatoes, leek, pasta and cheese.

Restaurant Alexandre
The five star Restaurant – to chill out. Restaurant Alexandre combines a cosy atmosphere and a spectacular view of the Matterhorn with the exquisite cuisine of regional and Mediterranean specialities. The dining room, at the heart of the hotel and with wood-panelled walls, exudes Alpine romanticism.

The restaurant offers more than a quick breakfast or a brief evening meal. In the morning, enjoy a substantial breakfast with regional delicacies, a wide selection of healthy juices and freshly prepared scrambled eggs. In the evening, the Alexandre brings the Mediterranean to the mountains.

Dining here is a must for anyone who loves fresh products from the sea, lakes or rivers, and meat lovers won’t feel short-changed at the Restaurant Alexandre either.

During the winter months, you can enjoy “Live Cooking” daily. Several times a week, we put on themed buffets, such as a delicious dessert buffet or the large appetizer buffet with seafood specialities, daily-caught fish and a wide selection of regional and Mediterranean meat specialities and tartare dishes.

In the summer, the terrace with a breath-taking view of the Matterhorn and the surrounding mountain panorama beckons you to linger a while. For our little hotel guests, a children’s table is set at 6.15 pm, where children and the person accompanying them can enjoy healthy meals as well as typical children’s meals.

Bar 2’222m
Cosy lobby with a spacious bar area and sun terrace. Sit back and enjoy the piano music while savouring your cocktail and the «dolce far niente». Bar 2222m is in the middle of the Resort and is the ideal meeting place at any time of day through to the early hours for stimulating conversation.

Whether you want coffee in the morning, cold drinks and delicious snacks at midday, afternoon tea, a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink in the evening, our menu always has what you need.

Huge windows stretching from the floor to the ceiling provide a breath-taking view of the Matterhorn and the outstanding nature, making you feel at one with the mountains.

In summer, another highlight awaits: on our lovely terrace, the Matterhorn, the fauna and the flora feel even closer still. Cow bells ring not far away and alpine flowers adorn the surrounding meadows.

When day fades away and night begins, the comfortable chairs, the large leather sofas and the crackling fire provide the perfect place to end the day with a cocktail creation or a glass of whisky.

In the early evening hours, until around 11 pm, the cosy atmosphere is completed with live piano music. Tip: in winter, try our home-made mulled wine. Rumour has it that it’s one of the best.

Restaurant Walliserkeller
The Walliserkeller has a rustic and cosy chalet and mountain hut atmosphere, perched at an altitude of 2,222 metres, combined with delicious food. The perfect mix for a cosy winter evening as a couple or for a convivial gathering.

The regional cuisine from the Pennine Alps spoils you with selected Swiss specialities such as cheese fondue, raclette and grills and guarantees a daily treat. Every winter, the smell of warm cheese attracts cheese lovers competing to be the next “Raclette Champion”. Whoever eats the most portions of raclette wins the title.

The appetizer buffet also leaves nothing to be desired, with a wide choice of salads, a variety of dried meats and other culinary delicacies that you’ll love. In addition to our cheese specialities, we serve top-rate “à la minute” meat dishes which are prepared on the open fire. Fish lovers will also get their money’s worth.

To accompany meat and fish, we serve hearty baked potatoes, as well as light vegetables and two types of sauce. For many people, fine food and a good glass of wine go hand-in-hand. In the Walliserkeller, we have a wide range of selected wines.

We would be happy to advise you if you would like a particular wine to go with your food. For a sweet finish, we offer home-made ice creams and sorbets as desserts. To stay true to tradition, try our Toblerone fondue with fresh fruits.

Round off your evening with a fun game of bowling. The bowling alley is right next to the Walliserkeller and is open to both our hotel guests and external guests. For CHF 10, enjoy 30 minutes of fun. An excellent end to a fine dinner.

Vinothek
“Simply stunning!” are the first thoughts that come to mind when entering the Vinothek. A paradise for wine lovers and sommeliers that is like a little museum. Embedded in wood and stone, the wine bottles are laid down according to their origin.

In winter, several wine tastings take place each week in our small vault, exclusively for our hotel guests. On Mondays, our Maître d’Hôtel or his assistant takes you on a journey through the Valais wine-growing region; on Wednesdays through the Italian wineries and on Fridays a trip around the world.

Luigi Lafranco, our head chef
There has always been a connection between Luigi Lafranco and the Riffelalp. Even when the Swiss chef with Piedmont roots established the kitchen of a luxury resort in the Maldives, the Riffelalp was always present. “The goods came by boat to the Maldives – a 12-hour overnight trip.

The experience I had acquired in Zermatt with the particular logistics conditions was invaluable”, says Lafranco, who was born in 1975 in Biella/Piemont (IT). Lafranco really settled for the first time from 2000 to 2006 as sous-chef at the Riffelalp Resort 2222m in Zermatt.

In 2006 he secured his first position as chef at the Palafitte Hotel in Neuchâtel and in the space of two years increased the number of Gault Millau points at Le Colvert from 13 to 14.

In the next three years, as chef at Parkhotel Delta in Ascona, Lafranco reached 15 Gault Millau points. In 2013, he moved to Hotel Villa Sassa in Lugano and obtained 14 Gault Millau points for Ristorante Ai Giardini di Sassa.

After a ten-year stint in the five-star hotel industry in western Switzerland and Ticino, top chef Luigi Lafranco returned to the Riffelalp taking maturity and creativity with him. At the time, Lafranco was looking for a new challenge. He had proven himself as a chef at three reputable addresses in Switzerland and enhanced their gastronomical concepts. What next? The telephone rang. It was the Hotel Director of the Riffelalp Resort. “Come home. – that’s what Hans-Jörg Walther said to me”, says Lafranco.

Luigi Lafranco returned home. Nowhere else but at Riffelalp Resort 2222m can he cook according to the highest quality standards, flourish creatively and live so close to his Piedmont home.

Three types of gastronomy with one profile
The Riffelalp Resort 2222m combines different types of gastronomy with one profile: Restaurant Alexandre, the mainstay for hotel guests. The Walliserkeller with its regional cuisine cooked on the open fire. Ristorante Al Bosco with its wonderful summer terrace: excellent gastronomy on the edge of the ski slope.

Meetings and conferences

A seminar meeting in the mountains, above the clouds. The calm and nature truly work wonders on inspiration and the little conveniences during a stay keep the head clear for the important stuff.

Here you will find the perfect conditions and sufficient space for exclusive seminars, corporate events or conferences. We provide elegant seminar rooms with natural lighting and modern infrastructure, several restaurants, cosy rooms and suites.

A healthy mind in a healthy body – the physical well-being of participants is another factor to take into consideration. In their spare time, participants can relax in our vast wellness space, go on a hike to fill up on energy, or make use of the neighbouring sports facilities – there is something for everyone.

Get your colleagues out of their everyday routine and organise a team-building session with activities in nature.

Jump, gasp, run and don’t forget to laugh. Team-building strengthens your team and brings your colleagues together in a shared experience. Whether you choose an incentive or strategy-focused conference, the nature and calm in Riffelalp spark emotions.

In addition, you can expect a variety of sports activities in and around the Riffelalp Resort. Savour the feeling of cohesion upon crossing the Gorner Gorge or ascending the Breithorn all together.

Our own mountain guide, Yann, will happily help you with planning and implementation. Would you prefer something less adrenaline-charged? Stimulating discussions can also take place on hikes.

The Zermatt-Matterhorn destination offers a wide range of possibilities, e.g. Dining with the Stars, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, visit of Julen Alm and much more. We will happily help with the organisation.

Weddings
The Riffelalp Resort and its breath-taking surroundings provide the perfect scenery for every princess and her prince for a romantic fairytale wedding. The backdrop for the most wonderful day of your life consists of the spectacular mountain panorama and the exceptional nature that surrounds the hotel.

Step down the tree-lined path to one of our two chapels, in which you can exchange your vows. Both chapels can be reached by foot from the Riffelalp Resort.

The “Herz Jesu” chapel built in 1886 is ideal for Catholic and Protestant weddings only, while in our second, equally romantic “The Church” chapel, Evangelical or ecumenical marriages and ceremonies with celebrants can be organised.

Tell us what you want and we’ll make your wishes come true. For you and your friends! Open-air cocktail reception and Gala Dinner in one of our restaurants: the gourmet cuisine of Luigi Lafranco and his creative team look after the physical well-being of the wedding party.

The Riffelalp is also a picturesque location for your wedding photos! Your supporting actor, the Matterhorn, is directly opposite and makes every shot a masterpiece.

The Resort also offers superb leisure activities for your wedding guests. We do everything with great attention to detail. Together with our team, compose your individual, tailor-made programme.

Banquets
In summer the Riffelalp Resort is ideally suited for all kinds of events, such as family reunions, weddings etc. A special birthday celebration, an anniversary, a charity event or just a party to celebrate?

There are many reasons to have a celebration here – because of the calm, the incredibly close nature, or because you want to celebrate with family and friends while the children have freedom and can take part in child-appropriate activities.

The Riffelalp Resort offers the perfect setting for your celebrations, between the large spaces of the Restaurant Alexandre, the alpine atmosphere of Ristorante Al Bosco, the rustic feel of our Walliserkeller or the small and intimate Vinothek.

Tasteful atmospheres, excellent cuisine and impeccable service make your event unforgettable. We can discreetly organise everything, from A to Z. We are happy to help.

Spa 2222m
Escape the everyday routine and relax in the Spa 2222m while your gaze soaks up the beauty of the Matterhorn. In the highest spa in Europe, experience pure well-being and deep relaxation.

A particular highlight is our outdoor pool, heated to 35ºC, surrounded with a wonderful panorama of the Pennine Alps and with a direct view of the breath-taking Swiss landmark, the Matterhorn.

In the summer, the Zermatt panorama gleams in full splendour and offers the perfect backdrop for relaxing on a sun lounger. Enjoy the peace and nature in this dreamlike environment.

For your well-being, we have a wide range of beneficial massages. Whether you want a soothing sports massage after a long day’s skiing, or a relaxing massage for your tired hiking legs, you can pamper yourself and recharge your batteries in a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Put yourself in the magical hands of our trained massage team and enjoy the Alpine-herb based treatments or our own massage oil made by our spa manager, Gianfranco. Our team is happy to advise you and to help you choose the right treatment for you.

Inside our spa, further places of retreat are available, to allow your mind to relax. You could take a dip in our large indoor pool with integrated bubble bath, warm up in our saunas or steam baths, or relax in the relaxation room or by the open fire.

For a very special experience, our Chriiter-Grotta provides a special cave-like atmosphere with stones and water. If you want something more active, you can let off steam in our fitness area. After your visit to Spa 2222m, you’ll feel deeply relaxed and ready to take the next day in your stride.

Winter at 2,222 m
As the days become shorter, smoke rises from the chimney and snowflakes dance around your face, the Riffelalp becomes a true winter fairytale and exudes romanticism. Remoteness, clear starry skies and cosy nights – here time seems to slow down.

Relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you want to go skiing, tobogganing or if you prefer to explore our winter landscape by foot, winter in Zermatt has something to offer.

The exceptional mountain environment is directly in front of the door. In the evening, sit back with a glass of good wine and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace as you recharge your batteries.

Ski and snowboard
In Zermatt you can experience perfect ski days with many kilometres of slopes, cross-border runs, a lot of sun and fantastic snow. 360 kilometres of slopes in the international ski domain offer wonderful views, as well as atmosphere, culture and superior gastronomy.

For skiers and snowboarders, in the winter season the Riffelalp is a dream. A more perfect ski-in, ski-out location hardly exists, as the ski slopes go directly past the hotel. Forget shuttle buses and long queues; just step onto your skis at the front door and off you go.

Our own ski shop can help you with questions about sports equipment and our guide, Yann, is on hand to point you in the direction of the best slopes and the best ski lodges.

Ski schools in Zermatt
We recommend you book ski schools and private instructors early. You can do this when you reserve your accommodation.

Winter hiking
The winter hiking paths in and around Zermatt offer fantastic views and lead to historic hamlets with sun-drenched viewing terraces. As a nice reward after enjoying the exercise in the fresh winter air, make your way to a cosy mountain restaurant. Relaxation and enjoyment guaranteed.

Snow-shoeing
It’s not all about skiing. If you want to experience winter at its best, strap on a pair of snow shoes and set out on a snow shoe hike. The sign-posted snow shoe trails at Gornergrat offer the finest views of the Matterhorn, far from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes.

Tobogganing at Rotenboden
A rapid descent on a toboggan gets the adrenalin flowing and is pure fun for the young and old. Shrieks of joy, zest for life and thrills. On the highest toboggan slope in the Alps, tobogganists conquer the 234 metres from Rotenboden to Riffelberg, with the mountain of mountains always in front of them.

Experience more!
Curling in Zermatt : since Scottish guests in the 1920s brought granite stones with them in their luggage because they didn’t want to miss their curling habits in front of the Matterhorn, curling has been a tradition in Zermatt.

Paragliding: Take off and glide. Float in the air and circle above glaciers, trees and Zermatt. With a tandem glider and an experienced pilot, you can feel like the king of the skies. Happiness included!

Heli-skiing: Glide above pristine slopes and make the first tracks in the powder snow. With the helicopter, freeriders reach the starting point of their dreams and local mountain guides lead you safely to the best powder runs.

Helicopter round trip – Air Zermatt: Make your dreams come true with a round trip around the Matterhorn. As Leonardo da Vinci once said: For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

A summer full of activities at 2,222m
Sporty visitors can hop onto bikes and embark on an impressive bike tour on wonderful trails. And those who want something more leisurely can walk through the meadows, where curious marmots sometimes accept food.

Intrepid visitors, however, can venture on extreme rock faces, or set out on a guided walk to Monte Rosa Hut, cross the Gorner Gorge or scale a 4,000-metre peak. What about skiing in summer? One thing is sure: you will definitely not be bored at Riffelalp.

Hiking without borders
The hiking possibilities in Zermatt are infinitely diverse. The spectrum ranges from walking over alpine pastures and easy panorama walks to demanding mountain tours. The Riffelalp Resort is in the middle of the Zermatt hiking area. Short or long, easy or difficult, steep or flat: the possibilities are many.

Set out with Yann, our hiking guide, on a discovery tour. In the summer, our certified ski instructor and mountain guide takes our hotel guests on guided hikes three days a week, or on accompanied tours through the world of the chamois and ibexes.

The flowers are at their best in early summer, from mid-June to end-July. Winter offers bright days, snow-capped summits and a wonderful show of colours.

On a mountain bike over rough and smooth
The mountains around Zermatt offer varying trails for every type of rider. With its incomparable scenery, Zermatt offers pure inspiration for beginners and advanced riders. There are fun routes for every riding style: comfortable or sporty, with a lot of flow, or steep and technical.

For all-day bike tours or short afternoon trips, the mountains around the Riffelalp resort have everything to make a biker’s heart beat faster. Good to know: the varied bike offering, such as guided bike tours or the Sunrise Bike Ride, promise experiences that you will remember for a long time.

Golf
The Matterhorn Golf Club between Täsch and Randa has a nine-hole course and a wonderful view of the Breithorn. A new and unique concept in Switzerland is that you can play each hole off a different tee. This means you can play the course twice in different ways and thus play 18 holes.

The golf course can be reached from Riffelalp with the Gornergrat railway and a short taxi journey. We would be happy to reserve your tee-off time for you. We can arrange the transfer for you, and your golf bag will be waiting for you in the “Welcome Parking” in Täsch.

Mountaineering and climbing
Zermatt is a Mecca for mountaineers and those who would like to be mountaineers. But climbing the Matterhorn immediately is not recommended. How about ascending your first 4,000-metre peak, climbing the Riffelhorn or taking the Mammut via ferrata route?

It’s worth a look at our programme led by our very own mountain guide, Yann! Do you want to go even higher? Let our concierge book a tour for you with the local Zermatt mountain guide office.

Outdoor wellness
What could be lovelier than bathing in a refreshing mountain lake? Zermatt has some wonderful mountain lakes. The Five Lakes Walk leads to the lakes of Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee and Leisee – all mountain lakes that are not easily forgotten. Barbecue areas encourage you to linger, and two lakes invite you to take a swim – refreshment guaranteed!

Summer skiing
If you get up early, you can ski in the summer until midday. Europe’s highest and largest summer ski area on Klein Matterhorn has up to 21 km of slopes. Due to the situation and the short opening times, the Riffelalp Resort is unfortunately not the ideal starting point for this experience.

More experience
Paragliding: make your dream of flying come true. Be enchanted by the unique alpine panorama of Zermatt and admire the exceptional environment from bird’s-eye view.

Forest Fun Park: Swinging from tree to tree in the great outdoors, you and your children can develop your fitness, agility and sense of balance in an adventurous and fun way.

Helicopter flight with Air Zermatt: the experience of a lifetime: going around the Matterhorn and back again in a helicopter. Marvel at the summit of the most famous mountain in the world, the Zermatt glaciers, boulders and ravines.

You’ve got time – listen to your children
With us, children can simply be children and enjoy a voyage of discovery in the fabulous mountains. To make the holiday an unforgettable experience for both adults and children, we offer comprehensive childcare and numerous leisure activities for our young guests.

Hotel Riffelalp Resort has a kindergarten on the first floor. Our little hotel guests can paint, play, build and let loose here. In the winter, the kindergarten is open Sunday to Friday from 3 pm until 10.30 pm. During this time, a caring kindergarten teacher looks after your children.

Parents can use this time to pamper themselves in our Spa 2222m or to spend a carefree day in nature. The kindergarten is open to children between two and eight years old, who are already toilet-trained. Outside of these times and in the summer, the kindergarten entrance is open, even if there is no childcare.

Boredom doesn’t exist at Riffelalp: our young hotel guests can take part in further activities, such as table football and table tennis in the play room. Fans of games consoles will also be happy. There is a Playstation and Wii console for them to use.

For anyone who wants a more physical activity, we have our own bowling alley: can you get 12 strikes one after another and score the perfect game? Or how about a game of pool?

For children, having fun outdoors is the best thing ever. In front of Hotel Riffelalp there is a playground with swing, slide and climbing frame. A welcome distraction for children.

Children love splashing around in water: in our swimming pool, fun and enjoyment are guaranteed. If your children cannot swim yet, they must be supervised by their parents. There is no lifeguard on site. The wellness area is reserved for adults: children under 16 are not permitted.

For our small hotel guests, we have a special children’s table for dinner in Restaurant Alexandre at 6.15 p.m. Here our young guests can enjoy a delicious and healthy evening meal prepared by our kitchen team.

If you would like a lingering evening meal for two, or if you want to plan the next long walk for the following day, you can make use of our babysitting service. The cost for this service is from CHF 35 per hour. Advance booking is necessary.

We would like to point out that, although fun and games take priority here, there are a few house rules to follow. Please read our children’s rules of behaviour to learn more about these.
