Our Native Flora and Fauna
Our flora includes the tropical almond (almendro), beachberry (borbon), Portia tree (majaguilla), paradise plum (icacos), Maga tree, seagrape (uva playera), scheflera and buttonwood (mangle boton).

Among our indigenous plants is Oplonia spinosa, a thorny vine important to the endangered Harlequin butterfly (Atlantea Tulita). Not only does the Harlequin lay its eggs on the vine, the plant provides protection and supplies nutrition when the eggs turn into a caterpillar.

In addition to the Harlequin and 30 species of butterflies, Royal Isabela is home to: A bird inventory of 65 species, including the Scarlet Tanager, Bananaquit, the Puerto Rican Woodpecker, Grey Kingbird, Little Blue Heron and Snowy EgretLeatherback sea turtlesHermit crabs

Our 20 freestanding Casitas are true little houses with each Casita encompassing 1,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. They have all been carefully sited to best catch Royal Isabela’s stunning ocean vistas and breezes.

Your Casita features an airy living room and bedroom (both with LCD TVs) with natural wood floors and ceilings, as well as an opulently sized bathroom with separate tub and large shower room. Both the living area and shower room open to a private pool terrace.

The center for all things deliciously local is Jota Restaurant at Royal Isabela. The farm-to-table menu spotlights Royal Isabela’s very own vegetables, herbs and fruits, as well as the bounty from local fishermen, cheese makers and small family farms.
