The design of Vander Urbani Resort is based on a game of three-dimensional patterns, of carefully chosen materials and reflections, of which the guest becomes a part of the interior.

History
Ljubljančan (pronounced Lyu-blyan-chan). While the word may be difficult to pronounce for a foreigner, Ljubljana will immediately make you one of its own. Which is what happened to Amanda when she met Aleksander, a Ljubljančan, here: “It was down here that our eyes met for the first time.
We had our first coffee and enjoyed our first kiss. Over there we bought our first flat. After a longer stay in Australia, we decided to come back. The kiss is still here, and out of it has grown something that we want to share with our guests.”
Don’t expect a typical hotel façade or a glass lobby where you can exit from your car. You are in the old town, which is sensitive to traffic. Vander Urbani Resort is four old town houses in a terrace nestling under Castle Hill on the banks of the River Ljubljanica.
From the outside, they look like the other town houses in the old city, but they have been intricately re-designed with a contemporary passion.
During the renovation of the building, extensive archeological excavations in 2011 revealed that there was once an embankment here on the River in Roman times, when the town was called Emona. The embankment was reinforced with a jetty which was used as a small harbour.
Numerous finds have confirmed that tailors and shoemakers lived here in the Middle Ages. The site is one of the most significant discoveries in recent years in Ljubljana. And it is here that we anchored our Vander, with a new style, but with its heart rooted in history.
Old and new meet in a passionate embrace. Beneath the old bourgeois house facades lie 20 rooms whose design epitomises perfect living comfort. Yes, that’s Vander. Sensual, at one with the environment, and enhanced to meet the needs of the contemporary traveller.
The interior design follows a continuous line which runs almost imperceptibly from house to house. The charm of the surprising views culminates in the panorama from the roof terrace. This is what Ljubljana is like, too: in love with the old, constantly seeking the new

Ljubljana
Don’t be just a tourist – be a local. We have prepared a funky list of the best places in Ljubljana for all the curious VANDERers out there. Step outside our Design Hotel and Vander around! Ljubljana the capital, commercial business centre, a university town, a cultural and dynamic art scene with a Secessionist charm.
But above all, it is one of the most idyllic towns in Europe. When the weather is good, Ljubljana locals like to spend their afternoons in the numerous cafes on the river banks, where you are most welcome to join them. Ljubljana is a great city for everyone who likes a healthy dose of culture.
If you really want to feel the city’s beat, you simply cannot miss the Triple bridge (or any other Jože Plečnik creations – to dive deep into the mind and genius of Slovenia’s most brilliant architect check out the house he lived in most of his life which has been transformed into a museum).
Also, do not miss the Dragon bridge, and of course – last but not least – Ljubljana Castle.
The city is full of quirky galleries and rich museums. If you are up for a stroll by the Ljubljanica river you are sure to find a bunch of them. Usually the smaller ones carry contemporary art or photography exhibitions (Vžigalica, Jakopič gallery, National gallery, City gallery).
If you like something even more unique, you should check out the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, the museum “about people, for people” as they like to refer to themselves. Make sure to also visit House of Illusions and House of Experiments.
In 2016 Ljubljana won the title of European Green Capital – and for a good reason. Take a walk and explore the numerous parks that dot the city – the biggest being Tivoli just 10 minutes away from the city center.
For the nature-lover VANDERer, the city also represents the best base to explore the green oasis that is Slovenia (70% of the country is covered in forests).

Or Path of Rememberance and Comradeship. The path, also known as the “Path along the Wire” or the “Green Ring” is mainly intended for walking and running, although it is also popular with cyclists.
For most of its length, it is broad and sandy and comfortable for walking on, although the parts passing through residential districts are asphalted in places.
Some sections are very countrified, for example on Golovec Hill or by Koseze Pond, and the path, in general, has a “green” character, with around 7,400 trees of almost 50 different species planted along with it.
