The estate with marquis Federico Pucci della Genga in 1920 had its expansion, after years of abandonment, and became a centre of agricultural excellence. Marquis Paolo Montani della Fargna, nephew of Federico and heir of his passion, with his family, has developed Federico’s entrepreneurial concept towards hospitality and cultural entertainment.

Nowadays the buildings have been restored to host guests in luxurious and comfortable houses. Guests can enjoy the swimming pool and the 300 hectares estate with its olive groves, fields and forests.

In 1673 the Villa was built in this secluded and unspoiled corner of Umbria. It was the hunting lodge of Cardinal Annibale della Genga who in 1823 was elected Pope with the name of Leo XII. The Villa della Genga is the residence of the family and it is open to visits under reservation.

LA COLOMBAIA
From the covered loggia, which acts as an outdoor lounge-dining area in the summer, you enter the kitchen and see the original stone fireplace and sink. A brick staircase leads to the first floor and then to the colombaia or dove tower: the tower inside is a refuge where original and modern architecture meet to create an environment of extraordinary beauty.

  • On the ground floor: balcony, kitchen, laundry/wardrobe room, dining room and living room.
  • On the first floor: 2 bedrooms (one double, one twin) each en suite.
  • On the second floor/Dove tower: studio, spacious mezzanine with double bed and bathroom.

GLI ZIRI
The honeysuckle pergola with its travertine table and comfortable armchairs is a true outdoor living room. A large kitchen area opens from the living room with a typical large country dining table. A large arc connects the kitchen to the living room, with its fireplace and a glass door through which to behold breathtaking sunsets.

  • Ground floor: pergola, kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom.
  • On the first floor: another large bedroom with two windows overlooking the valley, bathroom and dressing room.

IL GROTTONE
The large round arc frames the stone wall in which a monumental fireplace has been added between two columns. This vast and scenic open space lets you enjoy the different spaces between modern and ancient architecture: on the one hand, the island/steel kitchen, on the other the dining crystal table, the nearest entrance to the living room overlooking the terraced garden.

On the same floor is a double room with bathroom and small closet. Outside, a terraced garden, dining table with chairs and umbrella, plus a barbecue. The overhead stairs afford access to the gallery used as a studio, and to a second bedroom with en suite bathroom.

L’ARCHIVIO
Scenographic apartment with plenty of light hosted in a XVII century estate. The living room has two glass doors that face the terrace and other two biga windows with spectacular view in the San Francis valley. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, king size bed, kitchen, modern and design forniture mixed with antiques and arts. Air conditioning, wifi, sat tv, fireplace. Access to a shared swimming pool.

THE RESTAURANT
We have selected among our products the best ingredients representative of many umbrian farmers that share our passion for taste, organic and km0. Our chef Valentina Dugo has combined these ingredients to create dishes that reflect the umbrian tradition and our philosophy of simple and fresh. As a result our cusine is light, healthy and respectful of the nature of every ingredient.

There is large room with stone walls faces south onto the garden. It is here that rich breakfast buffets are prepared. A large pergola projects into the garden, where light lunches and suppers are served, and where guests can relish our wine- and local fare tasting.

BED & BREAKFAST SERVICE

You can also book Yoga and Pilates sessions and access the wellness and spa area, with dedicated massage and beauty treatments.

SWIMMING POOL
We created the 18×7 m pool with natural oxygenation (no added chemicals) by using the plans of the terraced olive groves so as to create an architectural solution that recalls the cattle troughs of olden times. Open from late May until late October, the pool is for the exclusive use of the three houses of Villa della Genga.

WEDDINGS & EVENTS
Legal or symbolic wedding ceremonies can be held in the romantic courtyard of the borgo or overlooking the green hills surrounded by the olive grove of the property. If you prefer a Catholic ceremony, the church is 5 minutes from the Borgo and can accommodate up to 150 people.

RECEPTION
A restaurant inside the property is always available to offer the wedding reception. Typically Umbrian cuisine and local staff. Here you can taste the handmade Strangozzi accompanied by the local black truffle which, with its intense aromatic scent, matches perfectly with the Sagrantino of Montefalco (DOCG since 1992). “Crescionda Spoletina” cake at the end of the reception; a speciality that you can only find here with its delicate taste of amaretto.

PRODUCTS
The care and commitment in cultivating these products stems from our respect of the countryside and its life-cycles. Our farm proudly continues the crop rotation methods of the ancient traditions. The philosophy of our endeavors also mirrors the cultivation of our organic products.

From a long-standing farming tradition, we set the goal of preserving the biodiversity that once naturally grew in our fields by seeking out old varieties of seeds of both wheat and emmer, chickpeas, lentils, beans and chickling vetch, which have always characterized the typical products of Poreta.

Olive oils produced by stoned monocultivar olives from organic agriculture of Villa della Genga are our key products.

ADOPT AN OLIVE TREE
Another theme under way is “remote adoption of our olive trees” which allows our customers to choose and rent one or more olive trees and then obtain their own olive oil.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Villa della Genga organic extra virgin Cerquepapa is the tradition olive oil. Produced since 1820 it possesses the noblest features of the olive oil typical of this fortunate part of Umbria. Here, the olive oil comes from a genuine organic oasis, where the purity of the air and environment, untouched by use of chemicals, gives very high added value to the genuineness of the fruits of this land.

The particular climatic conditions allow the olives to ripe slowly and then they are picked by hand when their colour starts to change. With 80% Moraiolo, 10% of Frantoio and 10% Leccino Cerquepapa, our olive oil represents centuries of evolution of an high-end product.

Criytallin and dense, of a golden green. The olfattive impact is of an outstanding intensity. It boasts extensive aromas from the green banana to the smith apple, to the tomatoes. The taste is very strong and structured, with the bitter of thistle and sage on top; it closes with a slight spicy aftertaste. Finally, it is a pleasant balance between persistent and fragrant.

MONOCULTIVAR OIL
The range of our single-variety pitted Moraiolo, Frantoio and Leccino olive oils represents for Villa della Genga a challenge to innovation and quality improvement.

The special care in the harvesting, where the various qualities of olives are selected individually, and the particular process in the absence of pits, contribute in making these oils unique. Inspired by the collaboration with the illustruos Veronelli and developed over time with perseverance and painstaking efforts, Villa della Genga’s products are top shelf.

LECCINO
Among the three oils it is the most delicate and less intense in the mouth but still very rich in scent – crystallin of an emerald green color. The scent is fruity with hints of lawnmowed grass and walnut.

The spicy-bitter aftertaste combines the cardoons and the nut of the green apple. This olive oil with its particular features is a collector’s item and it is in full development. To combine without any doubt to boiled meat, or on tuna and swordfish steamed fillets. A must to taste.

MORAIOLO
Crystalline, dense and yellowish green. Linear and pleasant, intense and fine aromas: a net vegetal scent from the tomato plant leaf. The taste is intense and quite nicely structured; it marks the mouth with a sweetness reminiscent of pine nuts, due to the processing of the olives’ pulp, after being pitted.

Its ending is balanced, fine and complex and it is certainly to be considered still in development. Use it raw with spaghetti, tomatoes and swordfish or over a papaya, grapefruit and tomato salad. Ideal for bruschetta with vegetables.

FRANTOIO
Its look comunicates excellent promise, which is then confirmed in subsequent tests: crystalline, dense, and a vivid emerald green color. At the nose it proves itself intense and with nice reminescences of sweet almond.

The flavor is intense and structured, marked by great sweetness, and memories of dried fruit. Overall, it is fine, fragrant persitente sufficiently balanced in the ending. Unbeatable to prepare a stuffed turkey breast as well as a salad dressing for a cold Farro salad. It tastes great on a slice of grilled tuna.

THE PRODUCTION CYCLE
The olives are hand-picked by single variety when they start turning darker. These are then transported in areated 20kg boxes and kept in a healthy environment and maintained at a temperature not exceeding 16 C. The olives are pressed strictly within 8 hours from the picking.

The Pressing involves a continuous cycle, two phase press, run from a computer that monitors in real time its proper functioning. The leaves are detached, the olives are washed and the single variety olives go through a pitting machine that separates the pulp from the bone, or, for the Cerquepapa, through a latest generation olive press.

The paste is processed through vertical kneaders under nitrogen at a temperature that doesn’t exceed 25 C for approximately 30 minutes, then the process of extraction by a decanter takes place; the olive oil is immediately separated from the residue which is used as fertilizer for the soil of olive groves.

The oil is kept in stainless steel containers under nitrogen and under a controlled temperature (14 / 16 C) to ensure that the product is preserved from any contamination (heat, light and oxygen) and keeps all its sensory qualities for a long time.

OTHER PRODUCTS
The philosophy of the project can be found in the cultivation of our organic products as well. From a long standing farming tradition, we set the goal of preserving the biodiversity that once grew in our fields by seeking out old varieties of seeds of both wheat and emmer, and chickpeas, lentils, beans and chickling vetch.

The care and commitment in growing these products derives in particular from the respect for the countryside and its cycles. Our farm still follows the crop rotation methods according the ancient traditions.

Pride of our collection are the Zolfino Beans, the Pea Grass and Black Eyed Beans. Legumes, cereals and truffles are an important complement to the production of our Villa della Genga olive oils and complete the production cycle which is open to our guests and clients.

LEGUMES & CEREALS
They are a very important element in the Mediterranean diet and especially in the traditional Umbrian cuisine. Still cultivated by adopting the ancient techniques of rotation of cultures are the Lentils, Chickpeas, Zolfino Beans, Grass Pea and Farro. Our products can be purchased in bulk directly on the farm or can be shipped in packs of 500 gr.

TRUFFLE
Umbria is a huge truffle patch. It produces various types of truffles and among them the precious black truffle and “scorzone” summer black truffle. Our truffles can be bought fresh, directly in our store upon reservation.

The Umbrian black truffles of Spoleto (Tuber Melanosporum Vittadini) is the prevailing quality. It ripens from November to March, and its distribution area covers Spoleto hills, Martani mountains, the mountains of Perigord.

The French import also them when their product is not enough to satisfy market demand abroad. “Its size can vary from that of a walnut to an apple or an orange. The skin is blackish or full black but, though rough, is not as rough as the other species with black skin.

Its pulp, this is the safer distinctive feature, is purplish-black, crossed by thin veins of white that at the sides turn brown/red. This species is present in soils or limestone, pebbles, tend to dry, at an altitude ranging from 250-300 meters up to 900-1000.
